Michael,
My 85 CJ-7 had the AMC 20 axle also. It never spun on me and I wasn't kind to it at all. When Rick Pewe' (JP and Peterson 4x$ magazine editor) owned Republic Off Road in Tempe he told me not to weld it until it cause a problem. I guess this was a problem in the first few years of production of the AMC 20.

I have read in magazine articles, and seen a few mentions on here about welding the tubes to the housing on an AMC 20. Has anyone done this or have knowledge of how to do it. I will have some free time next week and was thinking of doing it to mine. Can it be done with the axles / gears in place. Does it need to be welded all the way around or just tacked? Any information, pictures, suggestions etc. would be helpful Thanks, Mike Wixom

Yes, I will attest to that. You need to take into account your
springs sagging a couple degrees on the rear pinion. (At least mine
did)

Subject: wheel spacers
Hi All,
I've been looking around at wheel spacers lately after seeing some on some
rigs while trailing. The rigs that I saw trailing had pretty big meats
(35") and seemed to have a lot of spacer fitted, I'd guess maybe 3" to
5". What is the deal with these spacers? I've seen them for sale lots of
times in different styles etc, but I don't really understand the
benefits. Theoretically I guess they'd lower the center of gravity, maybe
reduce the risk of rollover and in corners at speed probably reduce body
roll, but by how much? Is there a noticeable difference after fitting
these things? Are they likely to damage the wheel bearings/brakes etc? I
think that most people probably fit them for the look, or maybe to get a
bit more space so they can fit wider tires, but are there any other real
benefits to them?
Thanks,
Shaun

Of Course the Arizona Virtual Gun Club (az_vgc) is real. There are enough
people on this list who use, reload, conceal carry and have fun with their
weapons... it made sense to create a new group to talk about guns and gun
related items.
It is certainly better than cluttering up this group with gun talk...
although I suspect that a great many Jeepers carry or use weapons, it isn't
really appropriate to force Jeepers to read about guns.
So a new group was created.
Make sense Marv? Come join us... it will be a hoot!

For my money, you can't beat a 12 gauge, pump, 18", riot gun for self
defense. Load it with 00, 00, slug, 00, slug . . . and your set, you
don't even have to aim. ;-)
