I looked at all the lines going from my charcol canister to my fuel tank and all the metal lines are fine but the rubber hoses the make the tight bends are cracked and old. Also the rubber hose that goes in and out of the fuel filter aren't in great shape. Does anyone know the diamater of those hoses and if I would need a special grade of hose to replace those? I might have to degrade myself to running up to the dealer to buy replacements but I'd rather not.

You should be able to get those at a Pep Boys. You can always cut a small piece off the end of a line to bring in to compare sizes while in the store.

The acct # is on the AVJC website under vendor links. Also pick what
you want online, then take it to the store, they should honor it.

More than once while wheeling I've come across a group of ATF people, you
know, smoking drinking and shooting guns. It makes me nervous as hell and I
do plan on getting my own gun to carry someday.
There was an article in the paper the other day about this. The author was
writing that he always carried his gun at night but on this particular night
he wasn't. He got cut off by a driver and when he gave the guy the finger,
the other driver flashed a gun at him. He said that in reallity he was glad
he had forgotten his gun that day because the situation could have very
easily escalated into someone getting shot. It's just another interesting
view of what may happen. If those ATF people had seen a gun on me it could
have frightened them into pointing theirs at me.
On the other hand, when I went hiking into four peaks a couple of weekends
ago, I had a shotgun with me, and it made me feel more secure. Not for
people but because it is a prime bear habitat.

The AW4 is a completely electronic tranny, so it would involve a computer swap also, to me, a rather major pain. I've looked at the TH700R4 and it will work, it would just be an expensive swap. The adapters are around $400.00 each, and you need one at both ends !!! I may do this in the future at some point, if I decide that I really, really like the auto tranny and want the overdrive. The TF999 is not an electronic tranny, so there is no computer problem. There are no inputs to the PCM from the TF999 and only one output from the PCM to the TF999 and that's the solenoid for the torque converter lockup. I would make that a manual switch, if I did the TF999 swap anyway, so it's not a problem.
Thanks for the suggestion though..
Cheers,

Jon,
I like to carry a .357 Magnum on the trail. It doesn't come out of the Jeep
unless its needed. It's not a good idea to brandish it unless your life is
threatened. I personally don't like wear it on my side either. I have found
that it tends to intimidate the other unarmed people out there.
For a trail gun I would recommend a revolver, either .357 Magnum or .44
Magnum. Its a much more reliable weapon IMO and typically has much more
knock down power than an automatic. Automatics (9mm, .40S&W, and .45)
typically are great for 2 legged critters but are underpowered for an
encounter with a 4 legged creature. I no longer carry in town, but when I
did I preferred my 9mm to the .357 Magnum for that type of use.
I've wheeled for almost 8 years in Arizona and carried my .357 Magnum most
of the time. I've never needed it but you never know. There is alot of hype
and fear out there that I think is unwarranted. Don't let yourself get
carried away on the fear bandwagon. Use a little common sense. The odds are
that you'll never need a weapon. Of course it's also nice to know its there
just in case.

Why do you call them "ATF people"? The ATF is the Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, and Firearms. Their job is to enforce gun laws (though they often
times get over zealous). I doubt that you would see them out behaving in the
manner you describe. I think the word "yahoos" would be more appropriate.

I carry all the time everywhere, and have since the late 60's.. You'll
probably never know it if you see me, as it's hardly every displayed,
and it's not visible. I carry it when I wheel, in my Jeep, not open
carry. The local 4x4 club that I'm in, currently has by-laws against
open display during club events, runs, etc. I don't think that's a bad
thing, as the open display of a firearm really can distress people, and
I can understand it.
Anyway, yes, I carry, but I've never had to use it, and we've wheeled in
some pretty remote areas along the Mexican border. I certainly feel
safer with it.
I would "discuss" the revolver vs auto all day long. I've used both for
many, many years, and a quality auto, IMHO, is a lot better than a
revolver. Revolvers are easier to damage from rough handling, dropping,
etc. Also, regarding the caliber, the 44 mag is waaaayyyyyy too much
weapon for probably 99% of the people. They just will never learn how
the fire it effectively. I've owned S&W Model 29's (44 mags), since the
early 70's and I can shoot them and hit, but I can not recommend then
for the vast majority of the people. A hit from, say, a 22 mag is far
more effective than a miss from a 44 ;) May people can not even get the
hang of a 357 mag. It's loud and has a fair amount of recoil.
BTW, I've been "in the sticks" my whole life, even as a young teen. I
hike a ton and have seen a ton of wildlife. I have never been really
uncomfortable around any 4 legged wildlife, it's the 2 legged ones only
:) I have never, never been, in any way, approached by any wildilfe,
including bears and mountain lions. They always leave.
Anyway, I carry one of two side arms, either a Glock 10mm or a Tarus 44
Long Colt 2" snub.
:)

Stupid question,
I'm not a gun owner but I'd be very concerned about all the bouncing around
while wheelin. Isn't that a concerning factor in bring a piece with you?
Where would be the safest place to keep it? I see horrible images of it
going off in the glovebox.

Here is a true story at the coves. I took my wife and kids to the first
cover for some recreation swimming and fishing. My kids are in the water
playing with my wife close by when these drunk guys in a jeep come down the
big hill and want to travel through the water where my kids are playing.
They tell my wife to move the kids out of the way or they will run them
over. My wife stepped in between them and the kids. They start yelling and
moving forward. In the mean time I had pulled my 9mm out walked up to them
and they yelled at me to get my wife and kids out of the way or they where
going to run them over. I calmly pulled my 9mm out and told them the "I have
a 9mm says you don't". They decided to go around another way.

More than once while wheeling I've come across a group of ATF people, you
know, smoking drinking and shooting guns. It makes me nervous as hell and I

Randy,
Like Jeeps, shooting and hunting is an addictive hobby. I'm not as into it
as I once was but I'm sure the liberals would say you and I own "an
arsenal", but thats an entirely new debate.
This thread is just like any thread on suspension kits, etc. "Run what you
brung". There are hundreds on the list each with their own unique opinions
which regardless of whether it concides with mine is neither right nor
wrong. There are very good points here being made, especially in regards to
choosing a weapon that you can actually shoot.
I pray this doesn't turn into another one of those JW type debates, or worse
yet another alcohol post ;)

I looked at all the lines going from my charcol canister to my fuel tank and all the metal lines are fine but the rubber hoses the make the tight bends are cracked and old. Also the rubber hose that goes in and out of the fuel filter aren't in great shape. Does anyone know the diamater of those hoses and if I would need a special grade of hose to replace those? I might have to degrade myself to running up to the dealer to buy replacements but I'd rather not.

You should be able to get those at a Pep Boys. You can always cut a small piece off the end of a line to bring in to compare sizes while in the store.

You have to add the acct # to your profile

I carry my 9mm S&W with me most of the time when I'm wheeling. Yeah that
was a little concern for me at first, and then I remembered that I don't
chamber a round, just carry a full magazine. Those that are carrying

It makes me nervous as hell and I
do plan on getting my own gun to carry someday.

Randy,
Like Jeeps, shooting and hunting is an addictive hobby.
