With the 4 cylinder motor... about 28 mph on the highway. 18mph on the
highway with 33" tires, 9mph on the highway with 35" tires and with 36" and
larger tires, it just sits there and breaks axles when you let out the
clutch.

Gary,
im pretty sure the debate was whether to use spacers or go with a wheel with less backspacing. lets say you have a wheel with 4.5" of backspacing. if you want 2.5" instead, you could go with a 2" spacer or you could have wheels made with the desired backspacing. both methods will put the same extra strain on the wheel bearings.

Around $15K for bare bones up to around $25K fully loaded. (prices are
estimates) Make sure you really want the Sahara package. I didn't want some
of the frills or want to pay for most of the "extras" the Sahara has. I
configured a Sport the way I wanted. Besides, you couldn't get a Sahara in
YELLOW!

Subject: Re: Re: Wheel spacers????
Joey:
Either way, when you change the length of the lever in the equation you are loading the bearing beyond it's design. In my book this is not desirable. I have seen the results first hand (though on a low-rider Mustang) when the bearing disintegrated at freeway speed. Obviously they had a set of those extreme dished wheels mounted with
the exaggerated offset (not to mention the VW tires streached over them.). Not a pretty picture. I asked the guy driving if he had had problems with wheel bearings. He said "No, I just change them every month!"
Perhaps the physical size of the bearings for a 4x4 vehicle help keep this situation under control by being overdesigned in the first place because of the duty cycle imposed on them in projected off-road use. Stills sounds like playing with fire, wheel spacers or not.
Just my humble opinion.

I ended up with a Sahara, but hey, I bought mine with 10K miles on it so
what can I say?
One thing that is nice in the Sahara are the seats. I think Scott K. will
even admit that when we were checking out seats on the Moab trip, he was
somewhat impressed with the comfort factor compared to a regular TJ seat.
Other than that, much of the Sahara "stuff" came off (side steps, rock panel
molding, etc.) after I got it off-road.

configured a Sport the way I wanted. Besides, you couldn't get a Sahara in

Okay, I was surfing the web when I cam across these cool bumbers.
They looked similar to the ARB bumper. But they had lights built into
the bumper itself. The one they had pictures of was red.
Anyone come across this, if so can you tell me the name? j

You too?
I bought my Sahara with 15,000 miles on it. I still have the rocker
molding though. The seats are much more comfortable than stock TJ
seats. Also, the altenator, from what I read somewhere, is a higher
output model & the gas tank is the optional 19 gallon (ha, ha).

Subject: Death Wobble!!
I hope some one can help me out with this problem. I am running an 87 XJ with the 4.0 F/I. It has a 7 inch lift and BFG KO's = 32 x 11.50. I have never had any problem with death wobble for the entire 5 years that I have owned it. Just before the Jeep Jamboree, I put on a set of BFG-KO's = 32 x 11.50. At the same time I put a complete set of new Rancho 5000 shocks on, as well as a new steering stabilizer. The next day I jacked the XJ up and put it on jackstands, so I could do a complete lube, oil, and maintenance look over. Everything checked out OK. But, after I put the tires back on and lowered it back down for a test drive I noticed a definite death wobble. I have had three separate wheel alignments done at different shops, just to make sure it wasn't the alignment creating the problem. I have never had any problem with death wobble until this time. Everything is the same as before except for the new tires and new shocks and stabilizer. What is really strange, is that when I am making a left turn while driving on the highway, the jeep steering is completely smooth. But when making a right turn driving down the highway, there is a bad death wobble and noise that sounds very bad. Driving straight on the highway, you can still hear the noise, and the death wobble eases up a bit but is still there.
I have had everything inspected, plus I did my own inspection, and we could not find anything wrong. I am running the original pitman arm. Some have told me that that could possibly be the problem, and that I should get a drop down pitman arm. But if that is the case, why did it not have death wobble before. I am running Rusty's adjustable trac bar, and I have inspected the tie rod end. It appears to be in good shape, although it is hard to move and that there is a groove worn in the ball. I have been pulling my hair out trying to get to the bottom of this problem and I am tired of spending money without making any progress. Is there a way that one can adjust the trac bar and get it center with out taking it to a garage? I am at a dead end for what to do next. If anyone can help me with this problem, I would appreciate it very much.
Sorry for being so long winded, but I wanted to give you as much detail of the problem that I could. Thank you,
Casper

Definitly go with a Sport if you are going to build the Jeep up. Don't
waste your money on the Sahara like I did.
Scott Kruize is right; you end up throwing most of the Sahara crap out
anyway; why pay for it in the first place.
Get a sport in the color you want, and I'd recommend the following options:
Dual tops or soft top only, DO NOT get just a hardtop.
Dana 44 rear axle.
Air Conditioning.
Cruise Control (I know, I know... but I REALLY like it on longer drives).

I've been doing business with 4Wheelers Supply for years. I am happy you all
are having good experiences with them. They are a great crowd, I even hang
out with some of them once in a while when I go 'wheeling. Brian is busy
running his company, and although I'm sure he would bend over backwards to
help each and every one of you, Barry and Billy are a little more
accessible, and they are who I always go through. Guaranteed if you build up
a good rapport with them, they will go the extra distance for you.
I've heard members of this group complain about certain counter and service
people before, but I've dealt with or talked to all the staff at 4 Wheeler's
and I can say that I believe Brian has done an exceptional job of assembling
a good team with a "family" feel to it. Fantastic service at a fair price.

Subject: Holiday Party - Coves Cleanup - SUV Pull
Okay, I got word from the Forest Service that it is okay for us to pull
the burned SUV out from the second cove to the Butcher Jones parking
area. They want a date when we are going to do this. My suggestion is
Dec 29 or 30.
What's needed:
* At least 3 FS 4x4s or vehicles with D60s and lots of low-end torque.
The hardest part is going to be pulling the darn thing up and down the
hills so we need some grunt and maybe a winch or two. I have asked the
Lo-Rangers to help out since we need some heavy vehicles to handle the
hills.
* I am sure the coves are pretty dirty so doing a cleanup on the worst
of the coves would be a good idea too. The 1st and 2nd are the easiest
to get to so they are probably the worst. If anyone wants to head out to
the 3rd and 4th, that's a good idea too. I guess it depends on how many
show up.
* Holiday Party - Well.... How about a picnic lunch and bring enough of
one side dish along to share with 2-3 people.
How does this sound?

Or you can do what I did....trade the pulled Sahara parts for $$. I
couldn't see throwing the stuff away, that seemed rather silly. The only
"pulled item" left from mine are a pair of OEM steps. Anyone need a pair
cheap? ;)
If you are going to "roll your own", might as well order it with what you
want. ;)

I fit that description and Cove 2 is kind of special to me, so count me in
on the SUV pull and clean up. What I don't have is a winch, but that can be
overcome if we use 2 or more vehicles and do a tandem pull.

I too have been doing business with 4 W/S for several years, they
have
done some work on my CJ and have sold me lots of parts. What I
really
like about them is that they usually have parts for the older
vehicles.
I deal a lot with Cole and he has done a lot to get parts and find
answers to my questions. Most recently I had the opportunity to talk
to Joe, one of the original Jeep Mechanics, and he gave me some
advice
on hooking up my newly installed Power Steering. All in all very
helpful group of folks. I will drive the extra mile to support their
business.

Okay, I was surfing the web when I cam across these cool bumbers.
They looked similar to the ARB bumper. But they had lights built into
the bumper itself. The one they had pictures of was red.
Anyone come across this, if so can you tell me the name? j
Thanks,
Jason

Thank you,
Casper

David,
Definitly go with a Sport if you are going to build the Jeep up. Don't
waste your money on the Sahara like I did.

Subject: Air Holding Bumpers
A friend of mine is looking for a rear bumper that will hold air.
The only one I know that is manufactured is by Sun Performance.
Does anyone here make, or know of someone that can make one?
and/or
Does anyone know any other manuf. that makes them?
Thanks,
Dan

Anyone need a pair
cheap? ;)
If you are going to "roll your own", might as well order it with what you
want. ;)

David,
Definitly go with a Sport if you are going to build the Jeep up. Don't
waste your money on the Sahara like I did.

Don't get Joe W started again! :-)
Bulletproof Mfg offers their bumpers as air tanks, with 2 or 3 connection
points.

It just so happens that I need to get a new set of rubber for the
wife's grocery getter. Which Discount is Rick at these days? and does
anyone have the phone number there? On a side note, I'm having the
alignment on her car done at Roosevelt tomorrow. I called Flexy Joe
today and he gave me the club discount and squeezed me in to their
busy schedule. I hope that everyone else appreciates that we have
these two guys in our club that go out of their way to help fellow
jeepers.

I fit that description and Cove 2 is kind of special to me, so count me in
on the SUV pull and clean up. What I don't have is a winch, but that can be
overcome if we use 2 or more vehicles and do a tandem pull.
When and where are we meeting?

Subject: Re: Another positive experience; 4 Wheeler's Supply comes through!!!
I will drive the extra mile to support their
business.
