On April 30th I won an auction for fender flares on Ebay. The seller was planet_jeep.
I paid for the flares next day with paypal. I used my bank account and not my Visa. Always use your credit card as they will help when someone tries to rip you off. A month goes by and I am still waiting for my flares so I send a couple of emails to inquire but they do not respond. Time is going by fast as I am out of town for work. It is now late June and I send another Email and get a response saying they are sorry and will look into it. Another week and I again email them and Planet_Jeep says they are sent. I get a tracking number and they sent them to the wrong address, even though they have the correct address, ebay has the correct address and so does paypal.
Months of emails and phone calls and these guys will not even respond to me. So I decide to make another purchase from them so they will have to contact me. Oh I forgot to mention that if you do not file complaints within 60 days of purchase with ebay and paypal they pretty much don't give a ****. I left bad feedback with my second purchase and this finally gets them talking. They leave my feedback saying that I did not pay shipping to Canada. The price of the flares was $227.00 US and I paid what they requested, which was $326.80 US.
It is now October 23 and I still have nothing.

If they are located in CA and had $300 of my money I'd be making a visit from Phx to let them know just how much I liked how they treated me, if you know what I mean!!!

I used to be pretty heavy into Ebay at one time. A couple of things for newbies to Ebay. When a person or business hides their "feedback" they have something to hide.MAJOR red flag.Ebay is all about feedback.Second..as someone else mention..use a credit card for purchases.Ebay and Paypal have built in protection up to a certain amount i believe. And always start the complaint process in a timely manner. When Ebay or Paypal sends a email to the culprit it usally gets their attention. And if they(the culprit) don't reply in atimely manner,Ebay/Paypal will refund your money ..as they have for me in one particular case. But you have to be diligent in jumping thru the hoops.

I think if you post this same message on JU, JF, and Pirate you can probably warn a big chunk of the Jeep community.

eBay itself has a degree of risk. Some individual, otherwise described as an *****(empty space) just highjacked my account on eBay and posted for sale a bunch of Chanel Handbags.....if you can believe it. So eBay did do the right thing, they shut them down, but also shut down my account and made a bunch of suggestions on how to avoid this happening in the future. My take is that had I changed my password a bit more often (hardly ever did that in the past) they wouldn't have been able to highjack the account. Interestingly enough there were a couple of strange charges on my credit card account at about the same time. I don't know if they were able to access my credit card info at the same time, but the loss so far has been quite minimal, confined to a charge at a Sacramento Restaurant, (I'm in Wisconsin) and something to a DR *REGSOFT.com. I can't find out what this one is yet, but working on it. At any rate we are massively spending time on the 'puter making changes to a variety of items. I have download a freeware random password generator, but this requires a lot of copy and paste to access stuff that I used a normal password for in the past. Oh well, live and learn. Good to know about Planet_Jeep. Will never add them to my list of potential sellers. Thanks for the tip.

You don't have to lie to us; I saw you carrying one of those handbags at the Butcher Jones clean up... you looked darn good with it too! :D J/K

Are you gonna make it back down this year and hit some of these trails with us? Hope to see you out there (Jack has one of the nicest YJ's your likely to see anywhere).

Check with your credit card company, Bank, Insurance company, ECT.. See if any of them have Identity theft programs. Most of them have it FREE to there members. It's worth checking into. Pull your credit files and look for anything out of the ordinary.

I just know this because my wife is an Identity Theft Advocate.

I agree, I have my paypal linked to a Bank of America account and I specifically asked BofA whether something like this would be covered due to Ebay activity. They told me that any Fraud charges they will investigate on my behalf while replacing the funds that I lost.

Feedback is King on ebay, always use a C/C...and report these problems to ebay. I got caught up in the phishing email and they took over my account and racked up fees, Ebay investigated and corrected my account.

YJunk....Oh yes, will be down there by the 15th of November if all goes as planned. Thanks for the nice comment about my YJ. (not into body damage) but just having fun. As for the handbags, I am outed. :o I usually take one to the cleanups as you noted, but I do try to match the color with my eyes. And to Oldgamefreak, I may need the services of your wife, the ID theft advocate later. And thanks for the tips about the ID theft programs. I am looking into all the things mentioned on the thread and have been spending way too much time here at the keyboard. We are well into the list of things to be done before making the fall migration. Good to hear from you guys. Thanks. :)

Check out there feedback it's PRIVATE!! They will not let anyone see it.

This comment caused me to do some investigating and I wrote to eBay to see about "Private" feedback. In their own policy area they stated that sellers with private feedback could not sell on eBay yet Planet_Jeep still has listings.
Here is the text of eBay's response to me

Quote
Dear Jack,

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to your concern about the seller
being allowed to sell though they have private Feedback.

Jack, I understand the importance of this situation and appreciate the
opportunity to address your concern.

Please understand that as of October 26, 2006, members with private
Feedback profiles are no longer able to list items on eBay. We made this
change because private Feedback profiles, which hide Feedback comments,
do not allow buyers to make informed judgments about a seller's
reputation.

This new policy applies to all listings that were created on or after
October 26, 2006. Listings that were created before October 26, 2006 are
not affected.

Moreover, this new policy applies to all listings that were created on
or after October 26, 2006. Listings that were created before October 26,
2006 are not affected.

Your Feedback Profile is a valuable asset that helps earn the trust of
other eBay members. We strongly encourage members to keep their Feedback
profiles public so everyone can benefit from the Feedback other eBay
members have left.Quote

As Jason said, Feedback on eBay is everything....and I might add this is true for other forums also, just as we see here from time to time. It will be interesting to see what happens on eBay with Planet_Jeep from here on out.

Mac,
I am amazed that you got that response so fast. I can not say that my corresponding has been so swift with Ebay. They have been little or no help for me. Thier feedback was not that bad when I made the purchase in April, but it has gotten pretty nasty as of late.

We will see what further response I get from eBay. I went back to the Planet_Jeep listings and did some further looking. Here is what I sent back to Althea D.
Althea D.

Thanks for your response. I would ask you to take a look at these items currently listed.
190045478000
190045462124
190045344886
190045319697
190045307742
190045293005
190045292029
All the items listed above have a start date of Oct 26 and the feedback is still listed as private.
The reason I am following up on this is that this seller has been ripping off my friends in the Phoenix area with Jeep accessories. I recently had my account with eBay high jacked and I must say that eBay did exactly the right thing to deal with that, short of telling me who high jacked the account. This action has made me think that eBay is very interested in running a "tight ship" in these areas. Even though the feedback for this seller is private if you take a look at the negative feedback listed there are a lot of negative feedback entries. Thanks again for following up on this issue. Jack

I will post up the response when it comes in.

As of right now, this guy has 202 active listings on eBay.

macinyart
11-01-2006, 10:31 AM
Yes, at least that. Further, there at least 40 identical items, which is apparently a clear cut violation of eBay's own policies. He still has private feedback and has listed way too many identical items. I have carefully pointed that out to eBay, but have not heard back from them as of yet beyond thanking me for letting them know (probably an autoresponder) and stating that they won't let me know specifically the actions that are taken. Certainly the response has not been as quick as it was the first time. I suspect they give the guy some time to respond and comply with policy, but if he persists they may come up with something with some teeth in it. I have emailed them that I am suspending buying and selling on eBay until they do something about him.

This is an Email planet_jeep sent me today after I left more neg feedback.

"Dear buyer at this time or you go to the link below and remove all 3 negatives and we will get you a new item or we will report you to ebay for winning 2 items just to leave feedback and what you have done is not legal. If you want to contact us again please remove all three feedback or we will have to spam your emails."

As if them not sending me my stuff is legal. Freaking bunch of Clowns!

This is great stuff, this absolutely must be sent on to eBay. They may have stepped on their small appendage. Make sure that eBay knows that this all started with a failure to deliver issue.

I emailed them saying I would remove my neg feedback as soon as I recieve my fender flares. This is their reply:

"Sorry not after what you have done you won 3 items and not paid for 2 your original item was shipped and it probably got lost. I will check on it file a cliam and get you a new item but not at all until all 3 are removed. You never properly contact us to let us know you did not get the original item just left negative or we would have no problem taken care of this problem then. We can not deal with this if it willl just keep going back and forth. If the next email is not ebay notifications for feedback removal then please don't bother to contact us as we will just spam your emails. if those are removed then we will get on this and take care of it for your professionally but leaving feedback like that is not professional........tom"

I refuse to let these guys steal my money. They would not respond to my attempts to contact so I bid on 2 other items so thay would contact me and also it would allow me to hit them with more feedback. Well now Ebay has banned me. Really I have $327.00 credit with planet_jeep, since I have never recieved anything from them. Ebay is supporting the criminal and punishing the victim. Just like society I guess.

TO HELL WITH EBAY AND PLANET_JEEP

I can see why Planet_Jeep has some issues though. If you intentionally bid on an item to not buy it and then leave negative feedback you really are just misusing it and thus are part of the overall problem. Go through the appropriate channels to do things properly.....it will probably get you further in the long run.
