Subject: Brakes for flat towing
I cut and pasted the following email from Steven Roth's newsgroup.
Thought it was interesting since there are a lot of people who flat tow
their 4x4s to the trailhead. There are several types of braking devices
out there.
Linda
=========================
.......there are brake systems for flat towed vehicles (toad brakes)
that
>
> brakes of the Jeep while you drive......Has anyone every used any of these
> and do they work?
I researched several different systems before purchasing the "Brake
Buddy".
I've had it for just over a year now and it works great. This system has
a
box that sits in front of the driver's seat and has an electric air ram
with
a clevis around your brake pedal. A microswitch senses when you're
braking
and applys the Jeep brakes as if you were sitting there yourself. You
adjust
the sensitivity for your vehicle weight and how much braking you want.
It
simply plugs into your cigarette lighter socket and you're ready to go.
Mine
is set so I actually feel some drag from the towed vehicle when I apply
the
brakes. There's no extra wiring to hook up to either your Jeep or tow
rig.
That's one of the main reasons I went with the Brake Buddy. I tow with a
couple different rigs and have a couple different 4x4s I tow to the
trail. I
did invest a little extra in the wireless alert system that plugs into
your
tow rigs cigarette socket and lights up when the system is braking. It
just
lets you know everything's working OK. I also purchased the break-away
harness so if your Jeep comes loose from the hitch the system will lock
up
the Jeep brakes immediately. I found their customer service to be
extremely
helpful too when I wanted a few little extras that didn't come with the
regular system. They custom made and sent me a small platform for the
box to
sit on and a special clevis that would fit my rig better than the
standard
setup at no charge. You can check out their website and current pricing
at

Was that serious? How often do people out there rotate anyway? Do people ever reballance their tires (if they're not wobbling)?
Thanks,

South Korea
rotate and balance at least every 3000 miles!!!!!
David
Is there anything I can do to get better tire mileage (sarcastic comments also welcome ;-)). My better half is somewhat upset about the price of offroad tires and lengthening the time between purchases reduces my chances of divorce. Heavy loads, hard cornering, strong acceleration and braking are all obvious contenders, but are there any secrets?

The ones I have worked on have either had alternator or mechanical feeds. There are undoubtedly more styles. The Ford 7.3L has a hall effect sensor on the timing chain at the front of the motor, for instance.

Howdy folks, this is just a wah message from my new home. I just did
my first run here, well, sort of here. I had to drive 2+ hrs to
Indiana, at the Badlands Trail Park, Attica, Indiana.
Just think, for 15.00 ***hey, stop that laughing. yeah you**** you
get to ride the green (mud..ah), orange (mud and some rocks..ahhhhh)
or the pink trail (old fashion AZ 3.5-4 trail..woohoo). And if you're
not done by 5PM, they close the place down. Ok, time to wipe a tear
from my eye and a smirk from your face.
Next week I get to drive another 2 hrs and play in S IL.. Nothing
exciting, just some FS area/trails (Shawnee)...but it's all there is.
I see alot of trail blazing out here. The attitude seems to be "I'm a
redneck, have big tires and can do anything." Damn, time to wipe some
more tears here, and stop that smirking....yeah you, the one with
trails within 10 minutes of home.
Well, enough crying here. I need to change out front universal, guess
that means I had some fun.
Happy trails to all and see you in 2.6 yrs

Subject: Brakes for flat towing
I cut and pasted the following email from Steven Roth's newsgroup.
Thought it was interesting since there are a lot of people who flat tow
their 4x4s to the trailhead. There are several types of braking devices
out there.
Linda
=========================
.......there are brake systems for flat towed vehicles (toad brakes)
that
>
> brakes of the Jeep while you drive......Has anyone every used any of these
> and do they work?
