I am sorry I started all this, I just wanted to know if the price on
the internet is correct and I guess it is, I was asking for my
brother as I am the do it yourself for dirt cheap type and that is
what I plan on doing, but he is not.
See you on the trail.

Joe,
The 2 of us have got to be the most misunderstood members on this list. It's
good to have you back.
2 years ago when we got our Bulletproof setups they were much more expensive
than now. $466, that's unbelievably cheap! I'd buy an ORF carrier for
$250-300 but over $500 seems extreme when you can get a bumper and swingout
for less. BTW, where did you see that price?

Roger,
Now just WHERE did I call imply that he is an idiot?
Here's what I said:
"With the Bulletproof bumper and spare tire carrier running only $466
complete with a lifetime warranty and better quality... why in the WORLD
would ANYONE pay $495 for the OR setup? I thought that the OR setup was
MUCH less than the Bulletproof bumper. If the OR assembly is $250 then it
is a good price... if it really is $495, you should consider Bulletproof."
Asking why in the WORLD ANYONE would pay that much for an O-R setup is
certainly not an implication of idiotic behavior... but really an emphasized
question which I had hoped someone would answer. I don't believe that it
was uncalled for at all... Perhaps I shouldn't have emphasized the words
WORLD and ANYONE; I'll be more careful next time to ensure I don't hurt
anyone's feelings.
As far as my statement of opinion goes... no... I didn't expect you to take
my word for it. Even if I proved that the OR unit was structurally less
sound (I'm not saying it is) or brought up the fact that they don't have a
lifetime guarantee or... it wouldn't matter. My point was simply, why pay
more for less (in my opinion)?
I'll try to preface all of my statements from here on out with the following
sig:
"The opinions expressed in this email are not statements of fact but rather,
the opinions of the author and are not intended to be taken as statements of
fact unless the author uses the word "Fact" in his statements"

Not sure I can agree about the OR Fab quality issue. I have seen how they
make those bumpers Joe, and I would be amazed if they are built stronger or
better by anyone else in the same price range. Mark built a custom versin
with the same materials for my CJ and it has been slammed hard as you can
imagine. Scuffed paint and thats it. The welds hold my 38.5 SX's and have
had the whole weight of the Jeep sitting on it.
Are you getting Scotts disease? Must have something to do with getting
married...;-)

FYI. I spoke to Jason at the Mesa District office. He said the SUV has
been out there for a couple of weeks. So it's pretty recent. I offered
the AZVJC's service to get the hulk to the Butcher Jones parking area.
Jason wanted to know how we were going to get it out of the parking lot.
My response was that the FS would have to get a tow truck out to get it
from there. Jason said he'd talk with his superiors about it and get
back to me. The big problem, like the ZJ on the Terminator Trail, if
there isn't a VIN or a plate, we might not be able to do much. I asked
Jason to call me regardless of their decision: wheter the AZVJC pulls it
out or they hire an off-road recovery service. The longer it sits out
there, the more of a black eye the OHV-4x4 crowd gets.

JMO, but at least there is a little more traffic here recently than
there used to be. Which is better, just a few, high quality posts
showing up per day or a whole bunch, albeit a few useless ones in the

Actually, we do care a lot about other members. That is why we are
constantly helping each other fix and modify each others' vehicles. Not just
on here, but in our driveways. I have given up many weekend days helping
others when I could have been out doing something else. Why? Because I love
working on Jeeps and helping others do the same. When was the last time you
did that?
Who are you anyways? I haven't seen you post before. Post a name and vehicle
type so we can get to know you. No, I'm not asking this to flame you.
Remember, a lot of the bantering here is done in fun.

Hi Scott,
I don't know about you, but sometimes I love being misunderstood... <grin>
As for the BulletProof price; I ordered the price list today. If you'd like
it, I have it in text form.
And last but not least... I think that too many people on this list are
getting Butt-Hurt lately. I think we need to plan the first Annual AZVJC
Butt-Hurt festival so people can see that we really are nice (but oft
opinionated) guys.

Not sure I can agree about the OR Fab quality issue. I have seen how
they
make those bumpers Joe, and I would be amazed if they are built stronger
or
better by anyone else in the same price range. Mark built a custom
versin
with the same materials for my CJ and it has been slammed hard as you
can
imagine. Scuffed paint and thats it. The welds hold my 38.5 SX's and
have
had the whole weight of the Jeep sitting on it.
Are you getting Scotts disease? Must have something to do with getting

Scott,
This is fun... and I'm glad you brought the subject up.
I bet lots of people learned something from this discussion.
Let me summarize the finer points for everyone:
1. OR Bumpers and spare tire carriers are Junk that only idiots purchase.
2. The only true Jeeper owns a TJ with Bulletproof bumpers front and rear.
3. Coil springs rule and leaf springs drool
See how much we've covered in the last 2 dozen posts?

I need to buy a good wire crimping tool to do some rewiring on my CJ-7. Painless Performance Products recommends using one and given my lack of success in the past with pliers I guess they're right. But I've never seen any at Sears or Walmart. Can anyone refer me to a good tool and a place to get it. I'm not even sure what a good crimping tool looks like.
By the way. My Jeep has bumperettes on the back. Is that bad?

Joe,
The 2 of us have got to be the most misunderstood members on this list. It's
good to have you back.

Which is better, just a few, high quality posts
showing up per day or a whole bunch, albeit a few useless ones in the
mix? At least we know there are others alive out there.

Must have something to do with getting
married...;-)

bulletproof, but since I like Mark and his work at O-R, thats what I
went with. How can you say that Bulletproof is much better quality?
Have you seen one in person(O-R's)? I'd really like to know if this
is just an opinion or a FACT

Scott,
This is fun... and I'm glad you brought the subject up.

Subject: Good Wire Crimpers
I need to buy a good wire crimping tool to do some rewiring on my CJ-7. Painless Performance Products recommends using one and given my lack of success in the past with pliers I guess they're right. But I've never seen any at Sears or Walmart. Can anyone refer me to a good tool and a place to get it. I'm not even sure what a good crimping tool looks like.
By the way. My Jeep has bumperettes on the back. Is that bad?
