They'd be just fine. Many of us run 12.50's on an 8. I actually prefer
it...protects the rim/bead, and is a little less prone to bead separation.
It's the perfect size for 11.50's. In fact, you could get by w/ 7's if you
wanted to.

Subject: [az_vjc] 11.5" baja claw on 8" rim?
> Hi All,
> Shaun here again posting from South Korea. It seems that my tire dilemna
is finally coming to an end. I got hooked up today with a second hand set
of 31x11.5" r15 baja claws for US$600 (no spare). Might not seem like a
great deal to you guys, but they retail for $1100 over here and there aren't
that many around. I'm kind of wondering whether I was wise going with such
a wide tire, but didn't have much choice as my spare's side wall is shredded
and one of the tires I am running now has a pinhole in it's sidewall
too..... I'm currently running just normal road tires and they aren't great.
Both got shredded driving through a construction site.
>
> My rims are only 8", and I'm curious whether I should expect any problems
with the 11.5" tire? Mickey thompson says 8~10" is ok, does anyone have any
experiences, good or bad, especially when airing down? Am I more or less
likely to drop a bead?
>
> These tires are the bias belted, and I think they're pretty soft. Any
ideas as to what I should be expecting in terms of usable life? About 80%
road use and 20% medium to hard trailing in mud, snow and water, not much
rock crawling. The guy has been using them for only 2 months and 15% of the
tread is worn off already! Is 20,000 miles a ludicrous expectation? That's
about what I cover in a year and I'd be happy to get a year out of these
tires.
>
> One final question about spares. Since I can only get four of these tires
I'm faced with a choice; wait for a single to pop up for sale (not unlikely,
I've seen them before, but I'd have to wait a month or two) or buy a new
tire. I've seen other guys buy the Geolandar M/T as their spare when
running Baja claws. They are sized simlar and have a similar tread pattern
too. They are about 40 cheaper. Any thoughts on this?

> Is there anything I can do to get better tire mileage (sarcastic comments
also welcome ;-)).
One thing you can do is ensure that you have the proper inflation on your
tires. Here is one method to do that:
1. Get some tire chalk.
2. Load your rig with what you normally carry every day. Not necessarily
what you go wheeling with.
3. Go for a drive long enough to warm up your tires, about the length of
your typical daily drive.
4. Stop the vehicle on pavement where you an drive straight ahead for a
couple hundred feet.
5. Use the tire chalk to draw several widely spaced lines across the
tread of each tire.
6. Drive straight ahead about 50ft.
7. Stop the vehicle
8. Inspect the chalk marks.
9. If there is no appreciable wear on the chalk marks repeat the process
starting at step 6, and increase the distance driven.
10. If the chalk marks are worn off completely repeat the process
starting at step 6, and decrease the distance driven.
11. If the chalk marks are worn off the center of the tread and not the
edges, decrease the pressure in that tire and repeat from step 5
12. If the chalk marks are worn off the edges of the tread and not the
center, increase the pressure in that tire and repeat from step 5.
13. If the chalk marks are worn equally across the tread of the tire,
note the air pressure in that tire and write it down.
14. Repeat from step 5 until all the tires meet the requirements of step
13.
15. The pressures you have written down are what you should inflate the
tires to when they are warm.
16. After the vehicle has sat long enough for the tires to cool
(overnight) measure and note the pressures in all tires. That is the
pressure that you inflate the tires to when they are cold.
All that this process does is insure that the pressure you are running keeps
the maximum tread on the ground, and should be near optimum braking,
accelerating and cornering on the street. The tires should wear evenly
across the tread and give you as long a life as you can get with your
driving style.
Note that the pressures resulting from the above method may not result in
the best gas mileage, just more even tire wear.

I could use some assistance. Seems as though I broke a top shock mount

Hello,
Has anyone looked in to the possibility of get a permanent dumpster for the air down spot? Also, looked into anything we can do about all the trash left behind by some of the target shooters? Is there any way of educating these people not to ruin the natural beauty of the AZ desert (not there anymore). I have this vision of these people loading up there vehicle with what ever they are going to shoot at in the morning, heading out, and have the full intention of leaving it behind. Maybe posting a sign asking them to remove what they bring in. Every time I make a run up there I take something off the trail with me (last time it was an old FWD trans). Any comments or suggestions?

The FR between Table Mesa and Seven Springs north of Cave Creek is a
easy scenice trail with a couple of small obstacles (a short rock ledge,

Subject: Re: [Fwd: Info on the dunes] Pretty serious...
Chris,
I wish I could say that I haven't seen any violence in the dunes. If
you want to see the violence they are talking about just head up
to the Glamis side over the New Years weekend. I was in the dunes for
all 4 days of the Thanksgiving weekend. Everything was fine during
the daytime. Motorcycling and jeeping all over every day. Didn't see
any sign of violence. Lots of drunks, but no fights. There was one
guy that rode a little 80cc bike the wrong way down the sand drags
out at Gecko with no helmet and a serious death wish which he almost
got. Other than that, I observed much the same things as you did.
People helping each other out whether they were stuck, crashed, ran
out of beer...whatever. Thursday night out at Competition Hill(Hill
#1 - we call the hill you refered to by Buttercup, "Freeway Hill")
was pretty mild. Probably because most people weren't there yet.
Friday night was a completely different scene. I parked my Jeep and
walked row after row of parked vehicles at the base of the hill with
a few of my friends. Those of you that have met me, know that I'm
generally a very quiet person. While walking around at Comp, without
any provoking from me, I was almost in 3 fights in less than 1 hours
time. The first was from a guy that was just looking to get in a
fight and got in my face because I was too close to his truck. I was
never closer than 15 feet from his truck! The second, all of my
friends were involved in when some highschool girl started yelling at
one of my buddies. He tried to walk away, but her brother came over
and decided to take a swing(he was so drunk that he missed). My
friend didn't. After we got throught the crowd of 50+ people that
came to watch, a woman that was looking for someone else shoved me
from behind and then tried to knock my camcorder out of my hand. We
quickly tired of the BS and went back to camp. Saturday night, was
just as crazy. We saw a burned and crushed truck near the base of the
hill. The story I heard(don't know if it's true) was that some guy
hit another truck while climbing the hill. Then he tried to ram
someone else and did end up hitting another truck. This wasn't
tolerated and he was removed from his truck, beat up, and his truck
rolled down the hill and burned. I climbed the hill a couple times
and then went to find a "safe" place to park. We parked in the back
corner and got out. After a few minutes we noticed something shiny on
the back of the guy on the closest truck to us. He had been giving us
dirty looks since we got there so when we realized he had a gun in
the back of his pants, we once again retreated to camp.
I have only been going to the dunes for 2 years. I have been there 7-
8 times. This past Thanksgiving weekend was much crazier than any
weekend I have seen before. I was constantly on my guard and didn't
feel safe at all. I saw things happen down there that were too
shocking and sick to talk about here. I think a lot of people are
just driving there for the party and not to ride. There was a solid
stream of vehicles coming in from the west that none of us had ever
noticed before.
There has been a much, much stronger police presence this past
Halloween and Thanksgiving. They were handing out tickets
continueouly for violations like riding double, no hemlmet, no flag,
no headlight at night, drinking while driving. When the crowd is
small at the hill, the cops will walk around in groups of about ten
and try to keep things safe, but they won't go into the crowds for
their own safety when the crowds get huge and I don't blame them.
None of this is going to keep me from going there. It's a blast. But,
it will make me think twice about hanging out at the hill when the
crowds get that big. It just isn't safe anymore. I'd switch to the
safer side of the dunes, but IMO the riding and driving is better on
the Glamis side.

Hello,
Has anyone looked in to the possibility of get a permanent dumpster for the air down spot? Also, looked into anything we can do about all the trash left behind by some of the target shooters? Is there any way of educating these people not to ruin the natural beauty of the AZ desert (not there anymore). I have this vision of these people loading up there vehicle with what ever they are going to shoot at in the morning, heading out, and have the full intention of leaving it behind. Maybe posting a sign asking them to remove what they bring in. Every time I make a run up there I take something off the trail with me (last time it was an old FWD trans). Any comments or suggestions?

Subject: RE: Compression ratio?????
I am going to guess we are talking about engines? I ask because things
other than engines can have a compression ratio.
If it is an engine, then you are referring to a cylinder in the engine. If
you measure the volume of the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom and
then measure the volume of when the piston is at the top, the compression
ratio of the engine is then the ratio of these two volumes.
What is good or bad....that is all up to the engine making folks. They make
that decision.
Now, if you are talking about compression ratio in a video codec, then we
are off onto an entirely different topic.

They'd be just fine. Many of us run 12.50's on an 8. I actually prefer
it...protects the rim/bead, and is a little less prone to bead separation.
It's the perfect size for 11.50's. In fact, you could get by w/ 7's if you
wanted to.

> Hi All,
> Shaun here again posting from South Korea.
>
>
>

Good Luck

Have Fun

2. what is the best tire size to run with this lift while keeping in

I have a 99tj 4.0 automatic. How do I find out what gearing I have
