Last year, just a couple of weeks after I bought YJUNK, the CV in the DS went bad... Did a little surfin on the net to get prices on new and also looked for a place that could rebuild it. 4Wheelers suggested Precision Drive Line in Phoenix for the rebuild.
Took my DS up there early one morning and asked the guy if he could rebuild and how much it would cost... He gave it the once over said yup $280 (I think) for a complete rebuild. Left it there, he called me that same afternoon... it was already done.
After a year of abuse and me not really taking very good care of it (never greased the thing DOH)... the CV blew again last week.
Precision seemed a little far to travel so I thought I would look for something a little closer. Found Mesa Drive Shaft Service.
I was there at 8:30 this morning my shaft in my hand (let the jokes begin) and asked the plesent lady if I could get a price on a rebuild. She said yup, give me your phone number and I'll call you in a few minutes. Thought that was a little strange but okay... How long for a rebuild? 24hrs. Okay..
I called her back at 10:30; they haven't looked at it yet, but I'll call you in just a few minutes with a price. I asked her if they would still be able to rebuild it in the 24hr window she had promised... Yup. Okay.
4:15 I called back; they still haven't looked at it yet. No price? Well they haven't looked at it yet... Okay; I'm gonna come down and pick it up. Click... she hung up on me.
4:45 Well apparantly our guy has already started the tear-down. I didn't authorize that; why would you do that without even telling me how much it was going to be? Well we need to tear them down so we know how much they are going to cost. REALLY... (this was when I was expecting to get hit with, if you take it now you'll owe us, something dollars and something cents).
She could tell I was not a happy camper... Let me get the shaft so I can show you why we needed to tear it down for the quote... 5 minutes... 10 minutes.... 15 minutes... Well, we can't find it and the guy who was working on it has left; all I can recommend is that you come back in the morning.
24hrs after I dropped the shaft off the best I can hope for is that I'll be able to pick up peices and pay for work that I didn't agree to.
The good news is; if I can get it to Precision by tomorrow afternoon, I can probably have it no later than Thursday so I can be wheeling by this weekend.
Based on my limited experience I can't reccomend Mesa Driveshaft...
