Yep, and when you are climbing up hill in low range you will notice the
tranny flopping around too if its bad enough. Sometimes this isn't obvious
when you inspect it visually. Of the 3 I've replaced on my TJ 2 were
obviously broken and the third wasn't obvious. So far the poly one has held
out the longest.

I would imagine you should feel an above normal amount of movement in your
shifter if your tranny mount bushing is bad. This would allow the tranny to
move/roll some as you torque it up through the gears.

Bill,
We know you're not a computer guy. Don't sweat it. There have been other
emails from members of the group that I have received this week that were
indeed infected with badtrans and the goner virus. I alerted both of the
users just to be safe.
I schedule my antivirus software to update every morning. I had just updated
when I got the message with the goner virus attached. That virus definition
had just been released that day. You can't be too safe.

Don't know if you can "go nuts" on these trails near Flagstaff, but
they are fun. There is the O'Leary Peak Trail, O'Leary Basin Trail,
and the Cinder Hills area. All of these are pretty easy trails, but
the snow and scenery makes them interesting. They are all pretty
much around the Sunset Crater Nat. Monument.
O'Leary Peak Trail (8.7 miles) - From US 89, 6 miles north of Flag,
turn NE on FR776, and after 1/2 mile, turn left onto FR414.
O'Leary Basin Trail (13.6 miles) - Off of FR545, the road that goes
through SCNM, on the east side of the park, turn NE on FR546.
Cinder Hills (18.9 miles) - Same as O'Leary Peak, but stay on FR776.
There are many side FRs in the area that you can head up.

There isn't anything milder than aluminum or copper that is readily
available. Brass is stronger. And non-ferric meatals and alloys are more
difficult to weld.
Mild steel tubing is the easiest to weld.
Electrical conduit is easier to bend than industrial tubing. It plentiful at
Home Depot etc. And they make a flexible version of it.
Perhaps you can you can find it in a thinner wall thickness.
Some hobby-shops and ACE hardware carry 1 and 3 foot lengths of tubbing that
is less than .065.
Does it need to be metal?

Count on spending a bunch of money to replace your gears... unless
you can do the work yourself.
Next to upgrading your suspension, it's probably the next most
expensive thing you can do to your Jeep (although, I'm sure some can
think of other more expensive things to do).
I always point to Drive Train Directs Power Packages for gears. They
use quality parts (Spicer, Precision, and Superior gears, and Timken
bearings) and include everything you need to swap gears (ring and
pinions, gear paint, and bearings, etc.). If you're going to 35"s get
the 4.56s. That's what I'm running and I like it. The power package
will cost you about $420. That for both ends.
But, that's just the parts... If you're going to install them
yourself, you can save a bundle on labor... But, you'll need all the
tools (experience wouldn't hurt either) to get the job done, which
might cost you as much as having someone else doing it. FWIW, I paid
$250 and end to have 4 Wheeler's Supply install my gears and ARBs. (I
bought the gears elsewhere, and they installed them).
I'd imagine it'd be a bit cheaper to just get the gears done... but
you also have to think that while they're in there... you might as
well have lockers put in.... which, of course, will cost MORE $$$$.
You get the idea...

Subject: Re: Gears
