I prefer the thin fibeerflass antennas. They flex a lot more
that the "standard" fiberglass antennas. This puts a lot less
strain on the mount. I run a Wilson Silverload and it works
great. I believe Firestick and/or K40 also make a thin-style
fiberglass antenna.

Brent,
Mike has a nice looking Grand Cherokee....but there sure isn't many places
on it for a TJ guy to figure out where to mount an antenna. It isn't so
much the antenna, but rather where to put the mount that is the bigger
question, IMO.
Just so you don't think I am slipping, I did open up the back of the TJ so
Mike could get a look at all of the radio gear. And I did let him hold my
K-40 antenna! :D

Stu didn't give any advice on a new antenna???
I'm running a 4' Firestick II. They're fairly easy to come by (check
your local truck stop or visit Fry's Electronics) I think they have
them as well... Or if you prefer to shop at home, I got mine at
http://www.valcoelectronics.com you can read about them at
http://www.firestik.com). Mine seems to work fine. It's tuneable, and
inexpensive (about $14). I prefer the look and function of a
fiberglass antenna to that of a wire whip. I'm sure there are
advantages and disadvantages to both. But, I couldn't tell you what
they are.
Wilson seems to be a good brand for the wire whips. Again, I can't
tell you much about them as I don't have one and have never used one
before.
I also have a quick disconnect on my antenna (like this one:
http://www.firestik.com/Catalog/K&R-1A.htm) . The antenna sticks up
rather high (mounted on my rear tire carrier) and I need to take it
off to fit in the garage. Don't get one of those springs because your
antenna will just be whipping all over the place on a trail run.
I can attest that the fiberglass antennas are pretty durable. I once
forgot to disco the antenna and drove into the garage. I thought the
thing was going to poke itself right through the garage door. The
only way for me to get it off without breaking it was to actually
bend it further than it was already bent, tie it off, and then
disconnect it.

Sounds like you have a short in the system somewhere. Did you replace
the radio? If professionally done you should have them find the problem.
If you did it you will need to go back over the wiring.
If you have not replaced the radio you will have to look at where the
radio was and make sure there is no copper from the wires showing. These
would be the wires that went to the radio. Either cut them to the
protective plastic or use black electrical tape. If you are on the west
side it would be simple enough I could look at it for you.

I have an old-style firestick (fibreglass) on a good spring. It's
mounted on the roof rack using a bumper clamp. The wiring runs down
along the edge of the hatch and comes inside over the base plate.
Pretty simple. Only bad part is that is isn't grounded properly. One of
these days I'll run a ground to the roof.

Hey Gang
OK everybody we got a nice treat coming Jan 4th, 5th and 6th. I dont

compnay that owns 4Wheel and Offroad, Fourwheeler, and JP magazine) is
hosting this event down town in the area right across from the Phoeinx Civic
Center, From what I know now, they will be probaly be over 50 different
vendors, local and across the country that will be there. (Power Trax, Warn,
RubiconExpress, Currie, and few others slated so far) There will sales going
at the show too, so this could be a good time to shop for show deals. I will
also have a booth there as well, so if you come stop by so i wont feel
lonely.
Once I get more details I will pass them along. I know that some of the
current magazines, there is a one page add for the event. This is a first
for Arizona, to have a all offroad show. They want to make this into a
annual event, so pass it along to anyone you know. It will Friday 4th (3pm
