Anything going on? Anyone wanna go play on something in the 3.0 range? Martinez Cabin? Butcher Jones? I'm open to suggestions.....
Edit: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Martinez Cabin it is then. We'll meet at Price road and the 79 at 8:00am, leaving at 8:30. We'll go in via Box Canyon to the cabins and come out via Cottonwood. The run should take 6-7 hours so bring a lunch. We'll be on Channel 4 on the CB. Anyone who is coming, please post up or PM me so we know how many Jeeps to expect. If anyone needs directions please don't hesitate to ask.

I'm tentative for the Sunflower mine run on the 8th.
Crown King might be a longer run than what I'm looking for, unless we leave really early.
I've only been up to Butcher Jones twice, so I wouldn't mind playing around up there. There's also Sycamore. I've never been there....

I may be up for something, but if it is too far north, then I will most likely pass since the drive from North Tucson is too long to get there for an early start. Is the Butcher Jones run in the Arizona Off-Road book? I guess I will take a look and see how far the start is from here (if I can find it). Let me know either way before the evening what you all decide on. I still have to get to the ruins behind my house and that is tentative Jeep run on Rt 642 for tomorrow.
Thanks,

Butcher Jones is just a play area on the north side of Sagauro lake. That'd be at least an extra 30 minutes for you, maybe more. The Florence Junction area wouldn't be too bad of a drive for you. Maybe Martinez Cabin.....
Where is Rt 642?

If anyone else is interested and has a preference, post up. My first choice is Martinez Cabin, then Butcher Jones. I'm still open to other ideas if anyone has them.

I'm going to the Coke Ovens tomorrow. Starting at Price Rd, heading north through Box Canyon, then on to the Coke Ovens. Meet at 9am where Price Rd intersects Hwy 79, hit the trail by 9:30am.

Glen, take the 60 east to Florence Junction. Turn right(south) on the 79. About 15 miles down the 79 you will cross a set of railroad tracks. Price road is the hard left just after the railroad tracks. Look for my Orange TJ and John's Yellow TJ.
The trail rating is 2.5-3.0. I ran it before I put my 2"BB in with problem. We had a stock Taco on that some run and he had no trouble either.
Hope to see you there.

I don't know if this helps or not... Shnipe and I run Squeeze quite often and you're always welcome to come along.
The Martinez Canyon run is a very scenic run but its also a long run. The first 8 miles absolutely suck because of the dust but once your into the trail its really beautiful.
Some of it would also depend on what kind of wheeling you want to do today. If you feel like a nice scenic drive, I'd definately go to Martinez. If you want to bang, bump and grind your junk for a couple of hours on a tight moderately difficult trail... Then you know where we'll be.
Either run should be fun, if not today we'll get you out to the home of the ROC soon enough.

The more the merrier! An hour sounds about right for travel time from Tempe.
See you there.

Squeeze aint gettin any easier... We got back as far as the hole which was still full of water and really greasy nasty mud... so we flipped around and went back out. Little bits of water here and their made for interesting angels as you hit a line; or tried to. Typically the line changed real quick as you started the approach. I've seen open/open run squeeze on the past, but I don't think that would be happening now, not for a while at least.

We had a fun run today. We had 3 TJ's show up at the Price road entrance. We went in through box canyon and another group from the AZVJC caught us in the canyon. They were on the way to run the Martinez Canyon loop and making better time than us, so we pulled over and let them buy. We also got caught by Kevin Sherwood and his dad Ken on their way to the Coke Ovens. They stayed with us until the turn off for Coke Ovens. It was good to see some other club members out there and exchange greetings.
We didn't quite make it to the Cabins. The trail has definitely gotten harder since monsoon season. We made it within about a quarter mile of the cabins and decided to turn back there. With some liberal use of the skid plates and throttle we might have been able to make it. But we talked it over and decided to stop there. We took a lunch break under the trees and headed out via Cottonwood.
The only problem we had was when John's Rubi developed a funny noise from the front diff. We stop at this brand new kiosk on Cottonwood and checked it out.:D We couldn't find anything wrong so we continued on.
We stopped several times for photos and to shoot the breeze throughout the trip. All in all a great way to spend a Sunday.
I stayed with John on the way home to make sure his front end noise didn't develop into a bigger problem. It didn't. Hopefully whatever it is isn't serious and still covered under warranty.

It was a great day for jeeping. Kevin did a great job leading and we all had a good time.
Kevin pretty much summed it up in his previous post.

Nice seeing everyone out there. That trail is a solid 3.5 in my books. The luge bypass was a treat.

Yea, the trail to the cabins is not stocker friendly anymore. Unless you have a rubi and a drive like Tony that is willing to do what he needs to to make it through.
31's on a Rubi LJ all the way through the Canyon. I think that is a first....
Pics to follow in a new thread... I got 204 of 'em and I need to decide what would be good to post.

I took my Rubi LJ all the way thru the Canyon back in April, before my 2"BB. But I beat the hell out of my underside doing it and decided not to do it again until I've got some lift.

And I'm a witness :D That was a heck of a trip Kevin. I've been through the canyon twice on 31's so it's definitely doable with a good spotter and some brass cajones

Dang! Another Yellow Rubi. Just more fuel to the fire, we need to do a yellow Jeep run!
Hope the front diff. problem isn't catching, keep us posted on your findings.
