This is a GREAT chance to show the BLM that we are invloved in the trails and are interested in keeping areas open for public enjoyment. This could also turn into a BLM sponsored trail clean up if we have more people than we need. I know it would be a great day to go to the Coves or elsewhere but we really need support on this project as it is just as important for us to put our "money where our mouth is" by doing the things we all say we will when we go to Land Use Meetings.
The BLM Tucson Field Office is planning a volunteer project on Saturday September 30, 2006 to install a couple of interpretive exhibits and build about 250 ft. of foot path at the Cottonwood Canyon Petroglyph site north of Mineral Mountain. The project site is northeast of the town of Florence. You had expressed interest in helping with projects on public land, and below are this project's details.
Volunteers needed: Approximately 20 volunteers.
Work involved: Install two interpretive exhibits, and build about 250 ft of footpath. The exhibits will require digging a couple of holes in rocky soils, setting the exhibit and back filling with reddy mix concrete.
Meeting place: At the project area approximately 7 miles east of Highway 79 along the Cottonwood Canyon Rd.
Meet at the site at 08:30 AM
Work will wrap up by 1:00 PM or so.
The BLM will provide water and lunch, and needed tools,
Volunteers please bring work gloves and work shoes and personal items.
Depending on interest, field trips to look at other project sites in the vicinity may be organized.
If we get more people than necessary, the plan is to ramp up to complete in a shorter period of time and do a tail clean up after.
Thank you very much for your interest in helping take care of public lands.
Volunteer form needs to be completed, signed and brought along by all who are going to work:
