I wanted to get an idea of how often they are used on the trail

With anything other than a stock Jeep the 5' works so much better...

I got 2. 5 for the buggy and 2 4' for the Dodge and the Land Cruiser. Of course the one on the Cruiser is propbaly rusted solid.

For my jeep with a 4" lift, the 4' jack is fine. I've had several Hi Lifts over the years and the 4' has never let me down when I needed it.

Well I have a 4' one but I am trying to make room for a 5' one for future up grades on my pig. Cause when the budget permits I am going to get revolvers and bigger tires gears. So right now I am just trying to get an idea. If I need to come up with a way to mount a 5' for later on down the road.

I have a 5 footer. Although only tried it with the stock suspension.

Use a strap on the axle to cut down suspenion travel and stay with the 4'

If you are buried in a ditch or between some rocks you will really be wishing you had the 5'er. If you just want to change tires on a dirt road or at the mall get the little one.

never really seen the need for a five footer on a trail rig. Plus where to put it is an issue. Most the rigs I wheel with have 40 to 42" tires and we have done well with 48" or at least that is what she said.:D

48" jack. I've used it on trucks with 35-38" tires never had a problem.

Strap the axle to the frame if the jack isnt tall enough, its safer anyways that way. On certain vehicle it is already hard enough to find a place for them, especially a jeep.

I use it more at home.

I would rather try to find a place for the larger one than try and strap my axle up every time I wanted to jack up my jeep. On flat ground my rear tires don't come off until the last two holes on the 5'er. My jeep isn't that tall and its only on 37's. I guess it just has lots of flex!

a solution for those with too much flex, and unless you are replacing a tire, using the wheel to jack from works extremely well.

The 5' is just not very freindly to a YJ for mounting, I was trying to keep it inside the body, looks like I might have to make the tire hoop a little taller I was tying to avoid that or I might just make it square instead of the hoop.
