This trail does not loop back to the lake. It heads east into the mountains and back down into a very rocky wash/canyon that comes out at Hwy 87 (Beeline Hwy) about 5.5 miles south of Sunflower, 13.5 miles north of Bush Hwy intersection. This is a great trail, but the last 1.5 miles in the rocky canyon will take you some time to get through. The rocks were quite a challenge in places, I would say a maybe 4.0 ranking for 1 or 2 obstacles. At night, I would suggest some good lighting underneath your rig.

No loop, But you can exit the trail head south by fort mc dowel, cut through the res and take dynamite back to cavecreek rd..seems faster..less traffic!!!!

You've taken that route after a night run some time ago. Way better than the freeway. I'm going to have to pass on this run. I may actually be doing the Crown King trail in the afternoon. A shakedown run for my new CB antenna mount. :D

I think it was sycamore. At the end it was just you, me and Frenchy. It may have been towards the end of last summer?? I was still on 33's at the time.

Jason,
I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but I think you are being overly optimistic on the time and equipment requirements for this run. I ran it last week with one other rig, both rubicons on 33's, tummy tuckers, winch's etc., and it took us almost 7 hours in the daytime. Some of that time was route finding, but for the most part we were driving the whole time, no long breaks, minimal picture taking etc. I would imagine a bigger group, at night, will take at least that much time without any setbacks.
The trail is quite a bit tougher than it was a coiuple of years ago, here's a couple of threads everyone should read:
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=16167&page=2
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=16598
All I'm saying is be ready for bit of a challenge out there tomorrow, there is a nasty washout on the way up which will be no fun if someone were to fall in, make sure you guys have plenty of recovery gear, straps and winches, etc. It's also overgrown as hell, so you will get some serious az pinstriping, and the rock garden is now a couple of miles long instead of the 1/4 mile it used to be.
I would advise at least 33's, some form of traction aid (LSD or above), and a willingness to scratch and claw your way through this trail. Oh, and plenty of beverages ;)
From the trail rating page, (http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=13810) I'd call it a 3.5 in it's current state:
Rating 3.5 Hard Trail
Description Some rocky sections, bypasses at most major obstacles. Some body damage possible. Rocker panel and rear quarter panel protection helpful.
Vehicle and Equipment Upgraded bumpers (Useable as a hi-lift point), rocker panel skids, skid plates, Hi-Lift, 32" Tires, Rear locker
Example Judgement Day, Upper Terminator, Lower Terminator, Predator, Rocker Panel Pass, Martinez Canyon (not Cabin), FR42 (after heavy rainfall or when it is wet)
Taking off mature adult hat now. Have fun !
PS - Is your avater big enough ?

When did you run this trail last?????
Last week, obviously you didn't read my post because it was clearly stated.
I'm not so much worried about you making it through, as I am some one who hasn't ran it, just a heads up, like I said, have fun but be prepared.

Jason, I ran this trail 2 weeks ago, it has completely changed from when we ran it a few months ago. Look for anyone that comes out underequiped to have a really interesting time. The trail is not so much over-grown as it is over-run with debri, trees, logs and rocks. Rocks that were previously embedded into the boulder field have been moved hundreds of yards down the trail. Have fun on this one guys, but make sure you take your GPS because you won't recognize this trail any more.

$%^# - Did I get my butt chewed walking in the door at 8:45 this morning after I told my wife I would be home around 3 maybe 4 at the latest. I literally got home and had to get ready for work.
However, I had a blast. Maybe I was a bit hard on the rockers at times, I like the pivoting technique, but I sure had fun doing it. :) No Big deal, no body damage and it will get covered up anyway when I put my PSC's on.
I learned a great deal about riding, as well as how im going to build my jeep.
Thank you to everyone that attended,
I got lots of pics. I'll post them up tonight.
