this is my XJ, it has been beat and it is 2wd, however it's stil worth every penny of 2K$

here is it's current picture:

a few pic of the past:

also you can see my pics on www.rockkrawler.com under the XJ pic gallery

a few simple facts:
A/T
4.0, amsoil synthetic oil always used, throttle body spacer, volant CAI
AW4 w/ larger aftermarket tranny cooler
SYE w/ C.V driveshaft(rear)
Rockkrawler 6.5" LA
8.25 rear axle
again the front is empty and it's techinically 2wd until you fill the front w/ shafts and a locker, and put a front driveshaft in it.

Nick,

What gears and/or locker is in the rear? How many miles? Does the interior compliment the exterior? A/C?

Thanks!

the rear is a stock 8.25, I sold my D44 today.
it has 181k miles and the interior isn't as bad as the exterior(when it's clean)
the a/c needs to be charged, it blows, just not cold. when I bought I was told it was getting low and just never cared about a/c

Any chance you know what the tow rating is for the XJ?

nope, never towed
I know I've been towed by another cherokee on a trailer one time (when I broke down, quite embarrasing)
but that was a pretty scary ride

Shortwheelbase jeeps are about the worst vehicle to tow with. A XJ is of course a bit longer so it can tow a bit more, but still not a great tow vehicle. Add bigger tires, a flexy tall suspension and it's even worse. I personally would recommend not exceeding a double flatbed (not enclosed) ATV trailer at the maximum and even at that I'd only go short distances. You'll hear stories like "I towed my airstream across country with my YJ" and unfortunately there are knuckleheads that would try things like that... it doesn't necessarily mean it's safe. In addition to handling you also have to worry about over-taxed brakes with the larger tires.

ya I never tried personally, with a flexy suspension and no sway bars connected, and the fact that I have nothing to tow. all that helped in the fact I never towed anything

I was looking for something to tow my boat to and from Peoria to Lake Pleasant. About 30 miles round trip.

it honestly depends on how big your boat is?

I'm no expert on towing, nor would I sell you my XJ if it meant putting yourself at risk.

but it obviously couldn't tow more than a 1/2 ton pick up could thats for sure.
