I have a 93 YJ and the fuel gauge is definitely way off. i go by milage to fill up so i dont run out of gas. to me i think its a faulty fuel sending unit am i correct? if so does anyone have one theyd be willing to sell or know where to get one for cheap?

First, try test the sending unit. If the wiring is correct, the wire should be in the loom that comes from the Driver's tail light area and goes across the vehicle to the passenger side for the tail light assy over there. Normally is a pink wire (memory here).
With the wire doscinnected from the connector (should be a connector right there in the space between wheel well and rear corner) connect an ohm meter to the lead going to the tank and the other lead of the meter to ground. If memory is correct, you should see 0 Ohms at empty and 90 ohms at full.
Doesn't this one still have the little resistor on the back of the pod to regulate the gauge voltage to 5 volts?
If so, then you can try that first as it's a lot easier, and should be replaced with the gauge anyway.
As for the parts you need... The guys over at 4 Wheeler's Supply probably have it on the shelf. I speak from experience when I say hat you want to have the tank empty when replacing this item... even if that means siphoning out the last of the fuel.
If it's an eletric fuel pump, ust disco the line from the pump to the engine, run a hose to a gas can and turn on the key. if the prime timer cuts out, just keep cycling the switch till you get most of it out or even crank the engine over for up to 15 seconds at a go. Just make sure to have jumper cables and/or a charger around and wait a couple mins every 8-10th time you crank. Or you can run a wire from the battery to the pump and manually power it (make sure you have the hose and can away fromt he vehicle so as not to collect vapors around the spark you'll create at the power terminal.)

hopefully this weekend i will be albe to try what you have mentioned. thanks for such a quick response. if anyone has more ideas or if this is exactly the same thing they did id greatly appreciate their input as well. definitely isnt fun at guessing how much gas you have in your tank.

No problem... I, too, had to do the mileage thing for a while when the sending unit in my CJ went nuts. Showed empty in the morning and full at night... without getting any fuel that day.
Then it finally just died.
It's a simple and easy test, as is the gauge voltage regulator (wait, that was on my CJ where you can get behind things). Just find the right wire, touch meter to ground, other lead to the wire and check the Ohm reading (key off, disconnected fromt the gauge)
