Just wondering if anyone was planning on going to Desert Splash? Its like the Jamboree's we used to have here, with trails rated as easy, moderate & hard. The basecamp is at the La Paz County campground on the Colorado river just north of Parker. My wife & I registered for the run last year but my Jeep ended up in the shop 2 days before the event, so we ended up going in her Durango and being spectators. We still had a great time & are looking forward to participating this year.
If anyone is interested in going I have a registration & waiver form I can scan & E-mail [I hope]. PM me if interested. I think it would be cool if some from the forum went. Here is a link to someone's write up fron a few years ago. http://www.azrockcrawler.com/_images/2002/11-02truegrit/11-02truegrit.html
I almost forgot the event is Nov. 10-12

I attended last year and it was the best put together event I think I've ever attended. What a great club! Meals and raffles were provided and every child won a prize. Most were new bicycles.

The trails are fun, but not quite as challenging as the more difficult trails locally. But then again; I'm just a web wheeler who's not qualified to speak Jeep. ;)

I've been wheeling those trails in Parker quite a bit and they are very different, even from the ones here in Havasu. They're really some fun trails.

As for the event, It's an AWESOME time!!! The last time I went (2 years ago) they had a couple of junk vehicles to climb. One was a full size VAN. It got OWNED by a HUGE Chevy!!! I have to agree that the whole event was put together very well. I'm stock right now, but I may go and run a scenic run just to be a part of the fun and fellowship. Look for my AZVJC stickers out there...

And two more words... RIO LOBO

Eric, I think I talked to you awhile on the Deliverance trail, Your Jeep was also down & you were with someone in a Samuri. You're right that was a very well put together event. From the cars they had to run over to the dinner & raffle & the runs themselves. Lets not forget that many of the trails end near the Desert bar.

Yes! It was nice meeting you and we had a good conversation. Yeah; I was riding in a Sammi buggy on airbags. The Desert Bar is worth the drive!!! That place rocks! :)

Ya know, it's sad that I've lived in Havasu since 91 and have NEVER been to the Desert Bar, even though I've run almost every trail over there.

Hey Crawldad...I'm interested and sent you a PM.

Does anyone have any pics or the trail's that will be run? I've seen pics in the past and it looks like a fun event. Also, how far is this from Scottsdale?

I went last year and it was a blast. I am going to go this year there are many trails to chose from out there. They hare a room with all the trails on different tables with a bunch of pictures and the rating with sign up sheet. It is real organized and easy to figure out what is going on. The best thing I like is that they inspect your vehicle, Then they give you a sticker and it lets them know what trails your jeep is rated for. It keeps stock vehicles off the rated 4 trails and keeps the groups moving good through the day. They also rate the trails a lot harder than they are there was several 5 rated trails I think the only one that was rated 5 was Rio Lobo. We can try to get group of people to sign up for same trail and make VJC run. Cant forget the bar in the middle of nowhere that was a blast.

What are some of the other trails besides Rio Lobo?

That room with all the different trails sounds awesome! I could spent some serious time in there looking them over.

There is snake bite 1 and two, presidents choise that is the one with the famous launch pad, True grit , Rio Lobo. That is about all I can think of that we were interested in. There is one more that we did , but i cant remember the name of it. There was a lot more trails but they were all rated under 4 so we were not all that interested. We are gonna leave on Thursday afternoom and come back on sunday afternoon that way we can get three days of wheeling.

Hey, does this ever sound like fun? Is there a source for more information? Something like places to stay, eat, camp out? Or whatever? I can find Parker, AZ, but there must be more information out there. Thanks. :)

Its held at the La Paz County Park & has restrooms with hot showers. The fee for camping [Tents, RV's] is $15.00 per night. We stayed at the Blue Water Resort & Casino last year. If you get the package deal @ $100.00 It includes Registration, 2 Dinners, 2 Tshirts, 2 Raffle tickets, Continental Breakfast & a Dash Plaque.

The launch pad at the end is AWESOME!!! For anyone who hasn't been on something like that, it offers high pucker factor...:D I walked Rio Lobo while a buddy from Cali ran it in his CJ8!!! That was NUTS!!!

I'm interested, sent a pm.

Is there a website to check out for the event?

The Blue Water Resort looks pretty cool. I've been to Parker a few times to play on the water, always a good time!

There is no website for the event, I wish there was. The rooms at the Blue Water Resort were pretty cool. Ours had a nice balcony that faced the river. I sent you a PM. Let me know if your unable to print the Application & waiver form. JD

Hmmmm, I might make it, my fiance's grandma lives on the river (not in a van! ) in Parker. I would get good brownie points in recommending we go see her....until I'm in my Jeep on the rocks and nowhere to be found! :D

Was anyone able to retrieve the registration and waiver form? Crawldad sent it to me in Snapfish but it comes out blurry when I try to print. And Snapfish is trying to charge me money to view it in high res.

I'd like to post it to Photobucket and then post it in this thread. I might be able to post it from Snapfish after I get home and can photoshop what I have.

If anyone has it, can they post it here or email it to me at Lifesajeep03@gmail.com

Thanks

This is a link to one of the guys out of the Tucson Rough Riders , they have the best shots of Parker that I know of . There are several hard trails that test your skills and your fear of roll over ,the best weekend and I will be there come hell or high water . http://rides.webshots.com/album/507254465lzKxJF .

This is a definite can not miss event. Great people, well organized and good wheeling. Plus a bar at the end of most trails.. However do not drink and drive, they have law enforcement on the main road from the bar and they are very active. The launching pad is a blast but the fall to the right of it is even more exciting.

Sorry to all those I tried to email the forms to, & could'nt get it to work. I have faxed them to a few people since. If anyone else that wants the forms for the Desert Splash I'd be happy to fax or send them snail mail, just let me know. It looks like we might have a good group going from the AVJC. Its going to be a BLAST. JD

Here's my initial plan for attending this event...

I am planning on driving up to Parker Thursday Nov 9th directly from work. I will be staying at the Blue Water Resort for that night only. It's $45 on a weekday.

On Friday morning, I'll head over to the event and I plan on camping the next two nights. I want to have 3 days to wheel and then head home Sunday afternoon.

I'd like to get a group to camp together for Friday & Saturday night. Is anyone interested? I'm hoping to send my registration early next week.

John, My wife & I both work Thursday, so we'll be heading up Friday & getting a room @ the Bluewater Casino Friday & Saturday nights. I already sent my registration forms & fee in, & I also got my reservations for the room. If anyone is thinking of staying @ the Casino the lady there said they are filling up fast for that weekend. I also ordered my AZVJC stickers that I plan on putting on magnets so I can sport those on the runs, if I receive them in time. Look forward to seeing you there. JD

Not sure, last year everyone went after the runs, early afternoon. Its fun just hanging around the campground. Last year friday night they had a couple of imports to run over, which made for some good entertainment. Not sure if I can get reception with T-mobile @ the campground, but you can always try to call @ 480-242-9787 if you'll be around. JD

Havasu is only 30 minutes away, if that. I'll try and make it out there at least to hang out... What should I look for, vehicle-wise?
