Not my original modification but one that in my opinion is worth while for those having issues with the YJ D30 vacuum disconnect working "never" or when it wants to.

1) remove the plate on the that holds the vacuum assembly to the Axle

2) slide the "sleeve" over to "join" the shafts together

3) remove the small plug type bolt that is on the vacuum plate

4) slide the shift fork (vacuum assembly) to the "Locked" position(keeps the sleeve from moving once the shafts are joined)

5) replace that plug type bolt that you removed in step 3 with a 2" course thread 3/8" bolt....(I choose grade 5 not 8 :D ...joke cause it doesn't matter)

6) reassemble the plate to the axle making sure that the fork is on hte sleeves groove ( USE RTV on the plate and spread a little on the 3/8 bolt you used as well)

7) REMOVE all the vacuum hoses that come from your Transfer case to the engine compartment....Be sure to plug the hoses that come from the vacuum assembly as well as tose coming from the Transfer case...leave the "vent" hose open and going to the firewall in the engine compartment.

8) Because it will annoy you ....unplug / remove the plug that makes the 4WD light come on in the dash...(remember you now have a poor mans TJ shaft set up...wellll not really (Ujoints) but you won't have to worry about the vacuum not working ever again !
