Well, we are back. It was a great run, not sure how many Jeeps showed up, but it was a bunch. A HUGE thanks to Nick, Barry, and the other guys who helped me and the other newbies through. :D
If anyone has a stock TJ bumper for cheap let me know. I have until Thursday to replace and hide the damage from my wife.
Now on for the pics and what little carnage there was.

Looks like it was a little messy out there. I have something for both of you, Shannon needs my air tools to take off those funky chrome nerf bars, and Cave Gimp need my front bumper....:D
It does look like you all had a good time, let me know when you want to repair the damage, I have shade and power tools available almost anytime. :)

Well if there's shade, maybe i could make it out there this afternoon. All the drinks I brought for Nick are still cold. Hmmm....

I had an awsome time as well, meeting a bunch of new people(it was only my second AZVJC run), Myself, and about 3 other jeeps(Snipe, Lifes a Jeep, and Bajachilli) went and tried to run Terminator, but there was just to many people. So we watched for a while, then went and did Lower Raw deal again, then 3 of us attempted upper raw deal but decided it best not to push any further after Snipe had a issue with his serpentine belt.
All in all it was a great day, I got some good trail scars to remember it by:D
Thanks to Nick and all the other guys that helped spot for eveyone and make this a enjoyable Sunday.

Glad you guys had fun.
Now we need to do the Recovery 101 course. Ill start a seperate post to check for interest
tyota
09-10-2006, 09:25 PM
get with me on that if interest is shown, I'd like to see about creating a "to bring" list......for example what tools you'll need exactly, so that people bring only the needed tools, there has been times that I've attempted to help fix/replace parts and the guy has every size socket but the one he needs, and also maybe we can do actual write ups on fixing/replacing things on the trail

http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=7195&stc=1&d=1157922488Hmmm. Looks just like my front bumper did after my first Raw Deal run. :D I wonder if we fell into the same hole!!

(I bought a used replacement bumper from Ed Roten of oemtakoffs.com in Gilbert for $45. His number is 480-329-9509.)

I'm sure it was the same spot. I could try to blame Nick, or my tires, or the water, but its my fault. I had both axles locked and I just pushed through. I like to think of it as "normilizing" my bumper. Now the next time I do Raw Deal, I won't have any issues, the bumper is already out of the way. :D

Ive got some pics ill post here once i get to work. I had a lot of fun.
Just wanted to thank Nick, Marty, Barry and anyone else that helped out with this run. I could see a lot of smiles on the trail and even giggles when paint was scratched.
Also a second thanks to Nick, John, Barry and the rest that was patient enough to really give sound advice and encouragement to my 13 year old nephew Mike that drove the whole Raw Deal with the group! This was definately his most favorite trip wheeling with me and you guys didnt hesitate to try and make him feel comfortable and even calm him down a bit when he got a bit too excited. Thank you guys SO much. First thing he did when i got him home was call up his friends and start talkin bout how much fun he had and how everyone clapped when he made some of the obstacles. Seriously... THANK YOU! Ive never had more fun on a wheeling trip and i didnt even drive.

The chrome nerf bars really aren't the problem. They can easilly be fixed by the trail (as we saw yesterday). The real problem is the chrome grill. :D How do you scratch that up with out destroying the bumper? :):P

Yeah the belt has about a centimeeter and a half missing off one side. Im gonna swap in a belt for a 4cyl WITHOUT the ac compressor so i dont have to worry bout fixin it. I never use it anyway. The bearing is SHOT! its squeals like a stuck pig but runs fine. I wanna make sure the next time we go i can get YJunk out there too cause his rockers are all pretty and only have a few scratches. I dont think ANY rockers will fit it now without lots of beating and what not so screw it. As long as the doors KINDA work then what the heck. just means i have a bit more clearance :D It was fun spotting you up there. You rocked that line. Hopefully i can lock the rear asap so i can make my jeep do what i wish it could do :D

Well the new bumper is installed, and the fog light is fixed with some clear duct tape. The new bumper is clean so I'm thinking that will give it away. I may need to find some mud to hide it. :) If anyone has those nice stock fog lights, PM me. The big chunk of glass missing most likely isn't a good thing. :D

Sorry, I've been under the weather this week so far so I didn't post this earlier in the week.
I was signed up for the Saturday version of the Raw Deal Run and I didn't get the word that it was cancelled::(
We were to meet at 6:15am Saturday morning cause the leader didn’t want to be out in the 100 degree heat.
I got to the meeting place at 6am and no one was there. I waited till 6:30 and still no one. I left to go to the start of the trail and found no one there. The trail starts with us crossing the Agua Fria river. It was not too high but I didn’t want to cross it alone. I turned around and went back to the freeway exit and found one other jeep that was hoping to be part of this run too. We both waited and talked and noticed the sky was getting darker by the minute. Lightning was sighted and I decided to go up the freeway to Black Canyon City and wait out the storm.
It was quite a storm. Lot of hard rain, lightning and thunder. Being new to AZ, it was interesting to see how fast the creeks and river filled with water.
It took about 30 minutes for the storm to pass and another 30 minutes for the water in the side creeks to go down. I drove North up the freeway to the Bloody Basin Road exit. I had always wanted to go down into bloody basin and see what was there. The road was well graded dirt that was great at the start but then started to get softer and softer. The rain had made the top inch of the roadway very soft and muddy. I went down some hills that I didn’t think I’d be able to get back up.
I made a left turn onto the Great Western Trail, a trail that some are hoping will eventually go from the Canadian Border to Mexico. I went thru some pretty areas. The trail was soft and I had to drive like I was in the snow in Washington. I didn’t take many pictures until I reached to Northern part of this stretch of the trail. I was going South to North and there was only a trail marking sign and the South end where I started.
Here are some pictures of the Saturday Raw Deal Run turned Great Western Trail Run.
Anyway, I had a good time, saw some nice country, didn't bend, brake, or scratch anything so the wife is happy. The worst problem was the $4 in quarters  I used to get just enough mud off to be able to take the Jeep home. The rest of the mud ended up in our driveway.
(I have a new from bumper and ends for sale):D

I'm sorry you didn't see the big bold print saying it was cancelled days ahead of time, maybe next time we should send smoke signals:rolleyes:

I actually had a big chunk of glass missing from my factory fog light for about a year before I took them off (they still work). Before that I have no idea how long they were broken as a prior owner had it.

Please don't get the idea that I was pissing and moaning cause I had a good day out wheeling anyway. Being new to AZ there is a lot to see and learn here.
I appreciate you going out to help new folks like me.
I will get the pictures loaded someday when I get it figured out.

For the price of a new lens, I might as well buy some nice after market lights. :D Something even brighter. For now I'll go with the duct tape fix. If that doesn't work I'll try some JB Weld and bailing wire. Those 3 things fix everything. Just ask my grandpa. :D
