Anyone, anyone?
Want to hit up something this weekend, and Sunday is my day to play. Have a couple new mods to try out, so thinking of keeping it easy...like maybe Elvis/Jackhandle or Upper Wood/Upper Ajax.
Meet time: 8AM?
Location: TBD, once we decide what trail(s)

Normally I'd be all over this, but my friend with season tickets to the Cardinals is out of town and I inherited 'em

Hey Tom, me and Jim0352 were already talking about doing Martinez Canyon on Sunday if you are up for it. I can check with Jim but I would also be willing to do upper Woodpecker, I've never done that trail.

I'm in for what ever, I just want to hit the trail. Tom if you're looking to keep it easy, I'm fine with that as I'll have my wife with me.

I'll likely have my wife and 3yr old son with me, so I wanted to a) keep it kinda easy and b) have the option to keep it kinda short.
I've done Martinez with him before, but it was a looong day. If you guys want, we could meet at Price and run Elvis on the way towards Martinez? If things are going good, we'll stick with you. If it's best for us to take off, I can turn and burn down Box after Elvis.
Have you guys done Elvis before? Is a fun little trail with some cool options if you want to push the rig and yourself a bit. How about Jackhandle? It's another quickie on the way towards Martinez, but is a neat little trail with a lot of variety...some smaller rocks, a ledge or two and some killer views to finish it off. Neither is beyond a 3.0-3.5, with their options ranging into 4.0-4.5 territory (especially the "Jacka55 Bypass" on Jackhandle).
And I'm game for Upper Wood as well. Some fun stuff to play on along that trail.
Just want...no NEED!...to wheel!!!!

Hey Travis. Yeah...I REALLY want to get up to TM. I've hardly run anything up that way. Just Raw Deal way, way, way back when and Lower Term/Predator only way back when. Need to borrow my buddy's trailer, hit the easy run this weekend to refamiliarize myself with my rig and then I'm ready to rock it out. You run DH or CD yet?

Nope, I think I might walk DH and I walked CD a couple weekends ago. I want to get out there but need to go with the appropriate people and have a trailer as well. I am starting to look for a trailer within the next couple weeks and hopefully I will have one for the Marathon.
Elvis is on the way into Box Canyon, if you are heading down Price. As you wind back towards Box, it leads off to the left/North. Its a nice mellow wash with options ;) Its a nice short trail.

Huck's got it. Elvis is on the way into Box. You can finiash Elvis by dropping off a very high ridge down to basically where the cattle guard is at the "North" end of Box, which is right by the old yellow "arrow" sign at the turn to head towards Martinez. And Jackhandle is just a little ways down that road to Martinez.
Are we leaning this way, then? Wanna say 8AM at Price Rd entrance?
I actually like Elvis a bit more than Upper Wood, and I think you guys will dig it. The obstacle "areas" can be fun, with the optional lines available, and I want to see the trail now that the rains have gone thru. There's a nice ledge/crack to climb at the first obstacle that was starting to get a little filled in from sand...want to see it now.
Check the trail write-up on this site. There's a really sweet black YJ in the pics! ;-) The ledge the buggy is sitting on is a fun little climb/drop.
Will check in tomorrow, can PM you guys my cell number, too.

Yep...let's do it. 8AM at the Price Rd entrance. Wonder what the weather is supposed to do tomorrow...looks like FJ should be getting a bit WET right now!
My phone number (cell) is 480-861-4502 if you need to reach me.

Could I have directions to the Price Rd entrance, please? I was thinking of doing FJ this weekend as well, but normally go through Cotton Wood...
Thx, Kit

Sorry you can't make it Jim, I'll send pictures. I'll be there 8am.
Kit, The Price Rd entrance is further south toward Florence. I usually come out on Price Rd so I am not sure how far it is from Cotton Wood Canyon. I would call Tom if your not sure.

Go past the Cottonwood Canyon Rd entrance anoth 10-15 miles or less. You will cross another set of railroad tracks. The Price Rd meeting spot is to the left immediately after the tracks, and easy to miss if you're asleep at the wheel.
Box Canyon was beautiful coming back down through from Axel Alley.

Thanks to Tom for leading us through Elvis. It's a fairly short trail but it has some fun obstacles to choose from. Unfortunately everyone forgot to bring a camera so no pictures this time. Guess I'll gave to go back for the poser shots. We went out through Box Canyon, which had a good amount of water running through it.

That must have been a quick run if nobody had cameras.:D

I had a great time yesterday. Beautiful day, trail was in great shape, and the company was excellent. I got in a rush as I was leaving the house, and left the camera sitting there on the counter. Nobody had anything better than a phone cam, so we just wheeled.
The 4 jeeps ranged from mild to moderate to a little more heavily built. 2 YJ's and 2 TJ's. But even the "mild-est" built jeep had 32's and a rear locker, so he/they did just fine. We all had a couple difficulties along the way...I walked the first ledge/crack without any problem at all (extra width was nice), but couldn't get the optional notch to the left at the top of the first obstacle area. Just too wet and muddy at the base. But otherwise I was very happy with my new tires and springs.
After another quick rest stop in the shade at the end of Elvis/top of Box Canyon, we decided to to call it day. Decision was to wheel down Box Canyon (yes, still a decent amount of flowing water all the way down) and then grab lunch at the Riverbottom Saloon. After some good food and a couple cold drinks, we aired up and headed on home.
Bit of a tangent, but 93.3 changed format, huh? Turned that on during the drive home and caught a solid 4 Johnny Cash songs in a row! Awesome! My 2 little dash speakers were taking a beating to make it audible at freeway speed, but still sweet. Grabbed a beer and hopped in the pool when I got home...great way to end the afternoon!
Hoping to be at DQ tonight, so maybe we'll see you all there.
