does anybody know how to get to the party cove way in the back of saguaro lake. I take my boat back there all the timeand see jeeps now and then. I've heard its about a two hour trip to get there. This last sat. there was a jeep and a buggy back there. If anybody has been back there i'd like to make the trip by jeep some time.

party cove? isnt that the first big cove? if so its not a two hour trip but might be something i dont know where it is.

Back side of butcher jones is a green gate. follow the trails out. its pretty intuitive to make a big U through the washes to the first cove. Just make sur eyou pick up all your trash and some extra trash for good measure when youre out there

Shnipe's rig probably lost a few parts there; if you find them...aaaaa...never mind they're bad luck anyway.

Are you talking about sandy beach on up through the no wake zone? If you are that trail is an extreme trail and I think it's east of the rolls area.

yeah sandy beach is it. I've seen smaller jeeps back there before.
We've tried finding a couple times but started running out of time. I had my dad fly me over and looks like if youc an find the large wash, I know thers more than one, You can follow it down. The guys there Sat mentioned to my wife they came down from the four peaks way. I guess I should have talked to them myself but that would have meant wondering away from the boat and that where the cooler was.

try going all the way past all of the coves on and then take the very last dirt road down. Might head that way. Ive never taken it so i dunno. there are a few guys on the board but make sure your rig is capable cause its hella rough and we dont want it stacked to death

Jeremy if you've seen "small" jeeps back there it probably isn't Sandy Beach... I don't think anything but a buggy or hard core crawler can make it back there. You might be talking about cove four which has a couple of cliffs to dive from etc. Thats a pretty easy drive, just lots of hills. I made it out of there and to the BJ Gate in a hour and ten minutes once... That cost me a radiator mount...

He probably is referring to the first cove. Because of how quickly it gets trashed from partyers, it could be easily dubbed "party cove". Distinguishing feature is what I refer to as "rollover hill" (because 90% of the rollovers happen there") that borders the adjoining cove.

To get there (other than joining us for one of the several cleanups we do): butcher Jones to green gate (exit side of lot) and into "big wash 1"
BW1 approc 20yrds "y"... stay RIGHT
about 100yrds next "y" (numbered road to right) can take either, I usually go
left (stays in wash further, much smoother/faster)
about 300yrds further you will see trails cut:mad: into side of hill on right to
get out of wash and on top of ridge. I usually use "upside down V"
when on top of ridge, go left (N); LANDMARK:you will see "big hill" abut .5mi.
to the north. proceed about 25 yrds to first right
you will cross 2 small "valleys" and eventually come to "play area"; proceed
down one of the play hills into "big wash 2"
turn right and follow to lake
to exit (if your vehicle is not capable, use road which is about half way between lake and play hills; it exits wash at 90deg, goes through 1 small
valley (saw a minivan  coming in on this trail when we were doing
cleanup/explorer extraction)

PLEASE: take garbage bags to pack out what you brought (plus some)
respect the trails: stay on, dont "spin and grind"
sign up (and attend) the next cleanup

Just noticed: post #600 (wahoo!)

He is talking about the Sandy Beach area. You have to take the 4 Peaks rd. to get there. We did a rescue of the Devilman there earlier this year. The trail is a 4. Lots of big boulders.:)

Yep, that is Sandy Beach. Boats line up and party. Scenery is great. The trail down varies depending on running water and sand level. You go in from the 4 peaks exit although I have been told there is a way in from the butcher jones area. A rig with 33's and a locker or two should be able to make it. Just be look'n for Bees.

the way in through butcher jones just leads to cottonwood camp (lower corral accessed by 4peaks trail, begining of sandy beach trail). I have surveyed this area several times by air (damn that was fun:D )... no other access. The only possible access would be from the pothole road (4peaks spur which leads to cove accross from boat docks), but you would have to cut accross virgin desert (BAD BAD BAD) and unless you walked path, you would most likely end up at small cliffs/impassable dropoffs. Anyone know if there is satelite photos of this area?

PS Although I have been over and over this area there is always the possibility I could be wrong.... after all, I was wrong before ( I thought I had made a mistake:eek: ):D :D

i am talking about sandy beach. I along with other fellow boaters have always called it the party cove and by the pics you can see why.

Here are a couple of pictures I grabbed from GE, one showing most of Saguaro Lake and the other a close-up of what I have labelled 'Party Cove?' in the first one. Is this the one everyone is talking about? If so I can see that it would definitely be a challenge to get there from Four Peaks. Guess I'll have to help my buddy get his boat fixed up :D

the resolution on GE varies depending on where you are looking (you can see it changes on the right side of the large image), but for most metro areas it is in the 1-meter range. Just keep in mind that you need a hi-speed connection (cable or DSL) to use GE, but if you have one its a great way to see where you are going or have been. I routinely record runs on my GPS and then I can upload them into GE and display the trail and share it with others who use the program. And no, I'm not giving away any of the good stuff - I drive a KJ, remember? doubt I could even get to the start of some of the trails you guys and gals do...

Yep we went there about a month ago. Again depending on the water and sand levels will determine what can and might not make it. There is one boulder area that will be difficult for smaller tires. I would suggest a winch as well, especially if not front locker. The Bee count could be a factor as well.

...and after all the recent storms in the past month I'd say alot of those rocks may be even more exposed.

Bees, no thanks. I read that story. I had a swarm of those africanized bees chase us up in the White Mountains. Not cool.

Oh just so you know technically this is a water-way that is off limits to motorized vehicles and if buy chance the sheriffs on the lake are in a bad mood they can and have in the past written sitations rangeing from $200 to $500 fines for being there . The signs are ripped out as fast as the forest-service puts them up but they are always a hard crowd to win over .

This is very interesting information. I would like very much to know as close as possible the area to which the "technically this is a water-way " in this post refers. What is the waterway and where can't we go? I agree that it is not fun to deal with the LEO in these situations. Please tell me more? Thanks. :)

X2... If you were running an SAS with 36's locked front and rear, well you'd be in better shape.

I was locked f/r with 32's and couldn't even get my junk to the first real obisticle. I wouldn't chance it... If you do, be SURE you're rolling out there with someone who can get you back out if you break or get stuck.

Only if God is your spotter. :D

You might be able to make it but you'd have some serious damage. Just my $.02

I don't understand why everyone says you have to come from 4peaks and not BJ since this cove is south east of the first coves that you get to from BJ... it seems out of the way to go from 4 peaks, when all those trails all meet up at different points. I guess I had to be there ;)

i thought the same thing but then i saw a really good picture of it i guess the 1 trail that does lead all the way threw ends up with a giant hole in the ground that i guess is inpassable so i guess bring alot of 2x4 pieces of wood and wish for the best

sounds like a trail I don't have any business on anyway ;)
