Ruler

Trail Rating: 4.0

Ruler is located in the White Tanks roughly 30 minutes west of Phoenix. It’s located off the I-10 freeway and Watson road. It’s the final trail in a 3-trail wash that winds its way toward the White Tank Mountains.

Tax Collector and Firebird precede Ruler. Ruler starts at the burned out car at the end of Firebird. From the very beginning, rocks riddle the wash from wall to wall. If you have problems with the opening section, turn around because it only gets worse. The use of a spotter may be required for the entire trail. There are no breaks or easy sections. Work your way through the non-stop rock garden. There are numerous obstacles along the way. Choose your lines carefully. The last few obstacles are very technical. Take your time and work your group through the trail. The end is obvious and puts you on an easy access road out. This same access road is great for anyone that wants to watch.

Ruler is roughly 300 yards long and may take 1-3 hours depending on group size and capability of rigs. The rocks can be very nasty, especially on your steering. Upgraded steering or spare parts are critical to running Ruler. I recommend front and rear Lockers, bare minimum 33-inch tires, steering, skid plates and suspension.

Ruler is a fun trail for a well-built rig. It was the perfect challenge for me. Heavily built rigs can drive most of the trail. Have fun and unstuck any rocks you need to use.

Ruler starts at the end of Firebird. The access road crosses the wash. You'll exit past this spot.

There are rocks everywhere from the start.

38.5" tires make the rocks much smaller.

This obstacle is towards the end. The rocks do not help.

Work your way up.

The final obstacle is very technical. It's easy to fall off the line.

Listen to your spotter and go slow.

As you clear the obstacle, you need to turn downhill. Take your time and you'll see the exit.
