Hey everyone, great place you've got here. Been browsing for a few days, and soaking up as much info as possible. Still a complete newbie though, and I'd really appreciate it if anyone could give me some expert advice before I make any decisions.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what I want to do for my suspension. I just picked up a 2006 X. I'd like to lift it a little and get some bigger tires. I'm not looking to do anything extreme or expensive, just a small lift and maybe 31" or 32" tires. I'll hit the trails here and there, but I'm not interested in rock crawling or anything too hardcore.

Would something like this work? Any downside to these spacer lifts?

http://www.quadratec.com/products/16300_400.htm

Is there a world of difference between this and a full 4" lift kit?

Next, I was looking at these wheels...

http://www.quadratec.com/products/92601_4XX_PG.htm

This is exactly the look I want, but I'm curious why they cost under $50 each, when all the other wheels I see cost more than double that. Is it just a generic brand thing, or are they poor quality?

If I got these, would 15x10 work?

If anyone could recommend a shop in Scottsdale or east Phoenix that would be great too.

Thanks!

-Matt

btw... anyone know what the hell is going on in Scottsdale? Hayden road was under a 4 foot deep rushing river an hour ago...

Before you mailorder anything you might swing in to our shop and take a look. We stock so many different choices we would be typing for a month.:) We usually have several Jeeps in our parking lot you can look at. Stop in and lets talk.:)

Just go see Cole or Simon at 4 wheelers supply and get some 2'' spacer lift and that will at least get you into some decent size tire ranges.....Thom (T.C.'S TOY)

Will do 4wheelers. I actually took down your address a little while ago, was going to swing by Saturday am.

Just getting restless sitting and work today and thought I'd get a head start on figuring this stuff out :)

If I got there Saturday would you guys be able to install stuff the same day?

Before I did my 5 1/2" long arm kit from Rubicon express I had a 3" lift from Rancho. It was lifted via Bigger coil springs (no spacers) and new lower control arms that fit into the factory brackets, and spacers to lower your transfer case pan to prevent drive line vibration. The kit came with Rancho 9000 shocks & there was a bracket that bolted to your track bar mount that relocated your factory track bar so it would work correctly. It was an easy install and I really liked the kit. Now they call the same kit 2 1/2" lift.

I didn't lower the transfer case pan and I didn't have any vibration. I ran 31" BFG all terrains on factory 15" alloy wheels. Everything worked great.

I'm talking about a 1998 TJ Wrangler. I did this in 98. Since then Terra flex, rubicon express, fab tec, and a few others have come out with similar kits.

If you go to the members site and click my name you can see some pictures with the 3" lift.

I did the coke ovens run with the 3" kit just fine. The 5 1/2" long arm is more fun because you can do more stuff but then you are talking a lot of mods there. I had to remodle the wife's kitchen with granite counter tops and new appliances so I could spend an equal amount of money on the Jeep.

Just be careful, some kits achieve the lift with coil spring spacers and use your factory springs. I would do a kit like I discribed above from one of the manufactures. Contact Simon Lukerk at 4 Wheelers Supply. He can tell you the differences between the manufactures and prices. Plus It's hard to beat Simon's prices.

You cn do the install with jack stands floor jack and basic mechanic tools. I was a little black and blue after the install but it was great. 4 wheelers installed my long arm and it's hard to beat their work.

There are some other shops on this site that are highly recommended also, I just havn't delt with them yet. The guys at 4 Wheelers treat your jeep like it was theirs. They are proud of their work. And they remember you when you go in and everything about your Jeep.

Now I'm rambling. Comes with age. I hope I've helped a little.

Sincerely,
Tom Fooshee

Thanks a lot Tom, I really appreciate the info. Just got off the phone with Cole at 4wheelers, heading over there Saturday. I'm going to discuss the kit you mentioned with him.

A co-worker of mine just picked up a 2" spacer lift and some new shocks for his 98 TJ. Has not installed yet, but should be on within the next week. He'll be running 31's to start (got a screaming deal from another friend who was upgrading to 33's), then moving up to 32's. He also picked up a set of quick disconnects for front swaybar.

I've not heard anything bad about going this route for a minor lift. And it's what I'd do if I were building a jeep for purpose of daily driving, exploratory wheeling, longer distance trails/trips, and mild crawling. In other words, all the things that are a real pain in my more heavily built YJ.

Yep, this is my dd so I don't want to get crazy. I figure the small lift and wheels will look better, and give me a little help on the trails to get up to campsites and mountain bike trailheads.

Thanks to Cole, I'm getting the spacer lift with wheels and tires done Saturday morning.

Uhhh... I don't think 4 Wheeler's service department is open on Saturdays...or are you just picking up the spacers and installing yourself? I could be wrong, but I thought only sales was open Saturdays...
