I was looking around the net at various vendors for LCA skids because I've hit my passenger side LCA mount a couple times. I was wondering who has them and do they think they're worth the money. The two I focused on were those made by Skid Row and Jeep Medic. The Skid Row skids appear to protect the entire lower mount and look simple enough for me to install, but they are a little pricey at ~$130 for the pair. The Jeep medic's on the otherhand are relatively cheap at $34, but they require welding and appear to attach on the bottom of the existing mounts. So maybe the Jeep Medic skids don't protect the mount as well?? I know that Max 4x4 is a local dealer for SKid Row, but is someone a dealer for Jeep Medic in the valley. If not, who could do the welding for me? I also want something that I know I can use down the road whenever I eventually get a short arm or long arm kit. So, I'm just looking for advice based on what you guys and gals have used.

We sell the Currie units. $29 a pair and $50 to weld them on. They work good.:)

Nick tossed on a pair for me when i had to have new LCA brackets put on. Ive beat the crap out of em (yes im a bad offroad driver) and theyre holding up great. good to have like mini trusses to keep the mounts from bending too

Mine are currie

Currie are great if you need to replace the mount as well, like Shnipes experience, however if your stock lca mounts are fine then the currie skid is kinda pointless and retarded to use, using a thicker plate welded on a thin peice of stamped steel, however using something like what rockkrawler sells(similar) to the jeep medic I believe it goes over the stock mount and welds to it and the axle tube as well, we do that set up for 125.00 parts and labor

oh good point. i didnt realize the others just welded to the stock ones. the new mounts i got were BEEFY compared to the thin metal stockers. if yorue hitting em enough like i am now then you could justify swappin em out for some stronger ones

I assume that price is per axle??

I have to disagree. While thicker is better; skids welded to the stock mounts are plenty strong. It's far from "retarded." I'm speaking from experience and not just opinion. ;)

ya I guess "retarded" wasn't really needed

it's hard to understand where your coming from being on jackstands for so long though:eek: :D

Probably so as my real wheeling was pretty much over by the time I met you. I gave her hell for three years though and I found out real quick what works and what doesn't. :D

The Curries weld to the axle tube(thick) and the mounts (thin). Or we have complete (thick) mounts in stock.:)

I have had a set of Control Arm Bracket Plates on my TJ for going on 5 years now. Mine were originally created by a company called AFM Enterprises out in Dallas filling the need to reinforce the stock brackets.

Mine were simply a set of laser cut 3/16s plate steel that were bent to fit on the existing mounts. And they were welded on to the existing brackets and the axle tubes.

I have beaten the snot out of these and would have definitely damaged the stock mounts or torn them from the axles if not for these skids...

Definitely a worth while investment regardless of the brand you choose.

I seem to have a problem bashing my rear upper control arm bracket (the one on the frame)...... I hit it every run... does someone have a skid for there?

Does your tie rod rest on your diff cover or does it just look that way in the picture?

that looks like the Butt-Face diff cover with the extended shelf to help protect the tie rod... the aren't any "ribs" above that shelf for the tie rod to hit. It clears the shelf but doesn't touch it

in regards to LCA brackets/skids I think I remember reading where winddazer had some skids fabbed and welded on by Hunter or Desert Fab sometime ago that looked pretty good.

speaking of skids... is there anything out there for the body mount brackets?... I've heard of the kilby "clams" but wasn't really digging them (pun intended)... could somthing simple be fabbedlike this \ / around the body mount to still allow access to the bushings but prevent banging them up on the rocks. They seem to get hit really hard at least as often as the control arm brackets.

Nope, YGO had it right. It is a buttface from Baertrax. The tie rod hovers just above the "shelf".

By the way, if I ever had a question about how strong a couple of ribs welded to a stock Dana 30 diff cover were, I dropped the entire weight of the Jeep on the ribbed portion of the Buttface against a rock from about 3 feet up about 6-8 times this past weekend on Anaconda with no damage.

Regarding the body mount skids, I have heard pretty good things about Kilby clamz, but my solution was simple...

The rocker guards that I have limited my clearance a bit more than the ones that attach directly to the rocker panels, but they hang down just low enough to allow the Jeep to slide nicely along them and not hang up on the body mounts.
