After 15 years of loyalty I had to return the favor today. I had Storm put to sleep. It was time and he will be missed. I thougth of putting this in the O/T but as he has been on more runs then most of the members I felt it fitting to put this in the General Forum.
Storm was on the original VJC run beside me. He went quickly and quietly while I held him. We drove to the Vets in the Jeep so he got his last trip in the Jeep and I felt he enjoyed the chance to be back in his Jeep.
I think most times on the trail more people knew who Storm was then who I was:). I just wanted to let those that knew Storm know that he was no longer with us.
I will miss my friend:( but he goes to better place.

Jim- So sorry to hear. I know he was going downhill for a bit. You made the right decision. I hope you can still wheel as good without your co-pilot.
He will be in everyone's memory who has ever wheeled with you.

Take care.

Jim, I have never met you nor did I have the pleasure of meeting Storm.

I have two dogs and cannot even think about the day when I will have to be without them....

I wish you well and feel your loss (my son lost his 8 month old puppy to a car last year.

Jim,
I too am sorry to hear of Storm's passing. It's hard to lose such a loyal friend who gave so much and asked for nothing in return except a bowl of food and a place to sleep for the night. :)

Thanks for the comments everyone. The house will seem empty today when I go home after work. I am not in any hurry to get a new dog for now, I am sure I will do something in the future as I have always had a dog.

Jim - I have a real softspot for animals, as many of us do, and it choked me up to read your post.

Any pet who lives to be that age has had an enormous amount of care and love.

I'm sorry you've lost your buddy.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a friend. I don't even want to think about what it will be like when the day comes for me to have to make that choice. I love my friends dearly.

Storm will always be in that seat with you on the trails... Remember that.

Jim;
Brought tears to my eyes thinking how I just lost two. Storm was one special dog and part of one of my first runs with the club. Aussies are more like an understanding friend than a dog. They are so sensitive and smart.

Hang in there Jim and just know that you did the right thing. I'm so sorry....:(

Amazing, isn't it? How much a good dog can impact your life (and obviously so many of the rest us, too!). You made me take a time-out here at work and look at the pics of my little girl I've got on and around my desk. Damn dogs! ;-)

Got the pleasure of wheeling with Storm (and you!) a few times...he was truly a great companion. So sad that his time ever had to come. Best wishes to you.

Tom

Jim,

I am so sorry, Storm was, scratch that, is an awesome dog and I know he was a good friend on the trail to many of us lucky enough to go on a run with him. You are in our prayers during this tough time.

Let's everyone raise a glass in a toast to one of the best darn trail dogs that has every graced a trail!!!!!

Jim, sorry for your loss. I feel your pain. The dogs I grew up with made a distint mark in my life. For me, they were not dogs but family members.

Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened.

Jim, sorry to hear that. I have fond memories of you and Storm on the trail. I've been where you are right now and it's rough. Hopefully someday he'll run with you again in a better place.

Jim, I haven?t had the pleasure of meeting either of you yet seeing that picture of Storm tells a life time of joy, you can see it in his eyes. I have never been fortunate to have an Australian Shepherd before but the are by far my first choice as a companion and smart friend with unconditional love.
No words can express your loss yet I?m sure that Storm would want you to keep his legacy alive?Storm 2.
Just keep moving down the trail?..
And yes, posted by John P, ?All Dogs do go to Heaven?

The reply "All dogs go to heaven" is true. They are one of God's gifts to man. Storm was truly your best friend. I met you two on my first outing with the AZVJC.

We'll all miss seeing you with Storm. God bless in your loss Jim.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I have set up for Sat. to checkout a couple of Aussy puppies, it is to hard coming home to an empty house.
For the next couple months I can take him to work with me which will help us both get used to normal grid.
