I believe your only serious drawback may be that you would still have
the stock motor mount, assuming this product doesn't replace it. I
have broken one myself (with a 4 cyl. at that!), and heard of others,
so they aren't notoriously great in the strength dept. Seems like if
your gonna go through the hassle of the MM (which can be a slight
PIA) I would just go for the complete lift. Other than that if it
gets the motor up to match the body lift, then it should be fine. I
think Teraflex provides them with their Belly-Up kit (not sure) so
they must be OK.

David,

Did anyone answer you?
There are two screws under the the front vent thingy. The vent thingy
will just pop off. There is one more screw in the ash tray area. You
have to take out the ash tray to get it. I believe that is all.
The radio is held in by two screws in front, you will be able to see
once you get the other off. Then you might have to reach up through
the glove box, maybe not, and unplug the power/speaker plug and the
antenna.
It is really quite easy, take your time.

Lachlan, please do us all a favor, and power wash the Jeep before
coming over Sunday. Make sure you get the wheel wells, t-case, and
front and rear axles. It makes it alot easier when under the Jeep
and dried mud doesn't fall in your eyes ;)

Looking forward to helping!

Since I first brought my jeep home from the dealership ast August, I've heard a noise while moving at 20 to 30 mph. Only when it's cold. It's a clicking sound, something like what you'd hear if you taped a playing card to the fork of a bike, then let the spokes hit it as the bike wheel turned. I hear the "clicking" whether it's in gear or not, and it seems to be coming from the rear. I've had the Jeep in my local Chrysler service dep't several times, and the mechanic said he couldn't hear it when he took it on a run.
Does anyone else have this noise problem? If you have, and you've found the source, I'd appreciate it if you'd tell me, so I can trot on down to the shop and tell them to fix it.

Subject: Colorado Trip Report 9/23-9/27

We took off about 6am headed up to Ouray, CO on Sunday
9/23. Took 9 hours including pit stops. The section
of road between Durango and Ouray is really slow due
to the mountainous curves and everyone towing
trailers.

On Monday we took off about 8 am and headed up to the
start of Ophir Pass. Only took us about 90 mins to do
the trail. Aired back up on the other side, cruised
to Telluride and headed back up towards Ouray on
Imogene Pass. This was a rather lengthy trail, took
about 3 hours. Passed through some old mines/mining
towns that once existed. These 2 trails were about a
2.5.

On Tuesday we took off about 9am, headed to Engineer
Pass. Definetly a little more challenging, but not
more than a 3. The fall colors were great, makes me
want to move to enjoy the 4 seasons again. NAW! I
don't miss the snow =-) After Engineer Pass we headed
down the road to Cinnamon Pass which only took 90 mins
to do. Very easy, 2.5 rating. At Animas Forks we
headed south to Silverton. Found a great T-shirt,
wife wouldn't allow me to get.

T-shirt read:

4 wheeling is like Sex, When it's good it's good.
When it's bad, well it's still pretty good =-)

Anyways, we headed back to Ouray on the Million Dollar
Highway as they call it.

Wednesday we headed to the infamous Black Bear. Took
about 2 hours to do. I'd rate it no more than a 3.5.
There's one section above Ingram Falls that is a bit
rocky and your on the ledge by the treads coming down
=-) Wife got a little worried, but not enough to get
out and walk =-) The switchbacks were a little tight,
but kept all 4 on the ground. We made it to the
Powerhouse and got some great pics.

Aired back up, headed on the pavement back to Ouray
where we had lunch. Then headed back out to Engineer
Pass and took the fork south to Animas, then west to
California Pass, Hurricane Pass, and Corkscrew Gulch
and back to the pavement.

Definetly had a great 3 days of wheeling. The trails
weren't too challenging, but the scenery made up for
it!

I ran all these trails in a '00 TJ, I'm stock height
with 30" BFG AT KOs and Fuel Tank Skid/homemade
rockers. None of the rental Jeeps had skids and all
of them were running street tires that were 215 or
225s.

I'd definetly go back to Ouray and stay. The people
are great, small town of 700 people, and very
relaxing. Telluride as the hotel owner said, "Is for
Pretty People." They wanted $20 per person for lunch
at the restaurants so we always ate dinner in Ouray.
We took all the trail goodies with us from home. Only
chain in Ouray was Subway and didn't see any chain
restaurants in Telluride.

I'll post pics later today. We took over 100 pictures
in 3 days.

Now this one was to the group...

Dropped pitman is not always neccssary, do the lift first without it,
and if you have bump steer, then you need it.

RE does the adjustable track bar which centers the axle in the wheel
well.

Hello All,

Steve Schaefer is leading a Coke Ovens trail run on Thursday, October 27, 2011.

When: Meet at 8:00am at the Texaco in Florence Junction
Where: Florence Junction Area - First we will head up Box Canyon and then on to Martinez Cabins for a quick stop. Then on to the Coke ovens and out to Hwy 177.
Rating: 2.5+
Length: 6-8 Hours
CB Channel: 4

This run will also be with memeber of the Roadrunner 4 Wheelers a ASA4WDC group.

First we will head up Box Canyon and then on to Martinez Cabins for a quick stop. Then on to the Coke ovens and out to Hwy 177.

These are good trails for stock vehicles or people just starting out. they have some rocks to climb but none of them are beyond the means of a stock vehicle.

The Coke Ovens Trail is an all day trip. It covers a lot of different countryside, traveling over and around the rolling hills and traverse some rocks and ledges in the road.

Years ago the Coke Ovens were built to support some of the smelters at the nearby mines. It's a fairly common misconception that they made coke, which is made from coal. However, they were built to make charcoal from the then more plentiful mesquite of the Gila Valley.

Over the years they have been closed to the public numerous times and several have been used as "housing" for the hermits of the hills. At one point (so the story goes) an owner attempted to convert them into a type of tourist resort - and started to make rooms out of them. You can still see the lofts he installed in some of them. This project was never finished.

At this time we are able to see and explore these amazing creations. They are located on the side of a hill along the Gila River and are quite spectacular.

Across the Gila is the old town site of Chochran. If the water is low, there is a river crossing to the west of Chochran that can be taken for an exit out to the Florence-Kelvin Highway

This trail is definitely a favorite for all levels of 4-wheelers. Stock vehicles shouldn't have any problems although clearance is highly recommended. There are several areas of "rock stair steps" that will be a challenge to the novice or stock driver.

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Lachlan,

Get the super 35 axles and you should be able to run 35" tyres with no
problem. If you are running stock axles and doing class 3+ trails, you may
be breaking axles. Ask Eric Stellejes... he broke 2 or 3 sets before he got
his super 35 axles and now I don't believe he has broken any.

Subject: Re: Junk Yard Wars - A Plan

Being as that it will take a while, that means we have plenty of time
to choose our representatives. Perhaps we should have
a "qualifications" day where prospective "warriors" can compete to be
part of the team. I think in order to be successful, applicants need
to:

1. Have a "Team-First" attitude.
2. Have some Mechanical Engineering type knowledge. (Need to have at
least one "genuis" in this area)
3. Have some working Mechanical knowledge, like making a dead engine
run again. (Need to have at least one "genius" in this area, can be
the same "genius" as #2)
4. Have some welding skills.
5. Be reasonable strong and a fast worker. From the looks of it, just
getting the junk out of the pile can be a chore.

I think a weekend (or few) can be set aside to "Test" the applicants.
In the end we should have a team of 4 guys and a couple of alternates
in case someone can't make it.

How about it? Who wants to "Apply?" Who'd like to set up a "test"
environment? Who has some equipment to use for these tests? Things
we'd need might include:

Air Compressor & Air-Tools
Hand Tools (Wrenches, sockets, etc...)
Chop Saw
Cutting Torch/OxyAc Welder
MIG Welder
ARC Welder

(I have an NON-mobile air compressor, a 110v MIG welder, Power Miter
Saw that can double as a Chop Saw, hand tools)

Also could someone with some "Diplomatic" skills draft a letter to
send to the original author of the invitation. Perhaps we could get
moved up the list, since they contacted us first?

The super 35 is a good kit, includes a Detroit and larger spline
count axles. Your other option is to upgrade to Moser alloy axle
shafts, about $300. Only increases the strength (same spline count),
but the plus is no new carrier or gear setup is required. Plus you
have spares (stock). I've been running them with a locker week after
week on 4.0+ trails with 33s swampers (heavy tire) with no brakeage
(knock on wood).
