Subject: CBs in Jeeps

First of all, let me say I am not trying to dictate to anyone what they
should have. Nor and I trying to make any rules. We don't have rules.

With that said, I led a trip through box Canyon and to Martinez Cabin this
past weekend. It was a decent size group. I think that of all the Jeeps,
less than half had CBs. This makes it a little hard to communicate with the
group and it was hard to tell if the whole group was together. I realize
that a lot of the Jeepers in the group were new to wheeling and were still
working on what they need.

As a recommendation, if you don't already have one, please consider putting
a CB in your Jeep as your next mod. There are some decent inexpensive ones
out that that will not break the bank. You don't have to buy a real
expensive one. Just one that will allow you to communicate with the group.

Pros of a CB:

1) If you have a problem, you can alert the trail leader so he can stop the
group to help you.

2) If you get seperated from the group you can call out for help.

3) If you need a spot over an obstacle, you can call for one.

4) Sometimes, the banter on the CB is just as much fun as the wheeling
<grin>.

Just some thoughts,

Chris K

As far as I know, Mr Maiden, if you have a YJ with a D35 rear
axle, it is not an ABS carrier unless you have ABS. It is only on
the TJ that this is the same carrier regardless of ABS or non-ABS
brakes.

I received quite a few replies for the SKID PLATE PARTY next weekend.

I figure that I can do 6 - 8 trucks a day. I have enough sets for 14
trucks.

25.00 per axle, installed.

I can do a couple of trucks each night this week for those that can't
make it this weekend.

I will be available all day Saturday and all day Sunday for installs.
Come by and have a set installed!

I can do other welding and fabrication jobs, too! Call me and let's

Mine is home made (price is right and it can be any size you want it to be). It's been in for 18 months and still going strong.

Details at http://www.stu-offroad.com/storage/storage1.htm

Version 2 is on the drawing board, so to speak. I hope to put it in later this year when the weather gets to the point where I can work on a Saturday without drinking 5 gallons of water!

I am looking to put a "trunk" in the cargo section of my TJ. I really don't want to remove the back seat permanantly, but it seems as though I will have to if I want to gain the space. I am looking for information, I guess, from anyone who may be using some of the modular storage products that are out there, such as TUFFY products. They just don't seem to provide enough storage above the wheel wells and behind the rear seat when compared to the full cargo trunk that TUFFY offers, also. Any ideas?

Complete do it yourself install. I will provide instructions and coaching for

and transfer case skids take another 2-3 hours.
I would estimate that your local shop would charge you in the neighbor hood
of $1000.00 for this installation. I'm also open to traveling if needed to
either show a shop or someone how to do the installs.

Hopefully this answers most of the questions that were asked. If not please

Upper Term. has gotten to be an trail that a nearly stock jeep can go
through, from a combination of jeep making a very well engineered
vehicle to the abundant rock stacking that has taken place in order
to get less capable jeeps through.

But it still requires a good bit of skill associated with rock-
crawling. Since you have never been on the rocks, I would possibly
suggest running Raw Deal. It was the first trail I went on that
involved driving on the rocks, and I'm glad it was my first. I'm in
no way telling you what to do, but I did listen to the more
experienced jeepers when I first started, and ran Raw Deal a few
times before attempting Upper Term. And I'm glad I did.

Anyone can drag a jeep through any trail, but it's better on the
jeep, and probably more importantly better on the trail to run a
trail with experience and a prepared vehicle.

There are at least 2 trails in this area that come to my mind right
now that my jeep is capable of making it through, but there are a few
things that I need to upgrade to ensure they don't break before I
will attempt them.

This is ALL my opinion, so please don't take offense.

Actually, on our trip, the three experienced wheelers had CBs. I was leading and we had 2 experienced wheelers bringing up the tail. Unfortunately, I could only hear one but they could not hear me and the other (Joe) could hear me, but I could not hear him. We are going to try to figure out if it is my radio or his. I could however, communicate completely with one of the other Jeeps about 2/3 of the way back in the group so I think mine is working OK (could use a little more fine tuning probably though). We'll see.

Well, I don't plan on driving, so my experience level shouldn't have much to
do with the level of trail that I go on, unless it's bad enough that there's
a good chance of me getting hurt or being miserable all day. I'll have to
trust whoever I'm with to not show off and go on a trail that's more
difficult than they can handle. The trails that I'm used to can be tackled
with a stock Geo Tracker, which is what I drove for 4 years until graduating
up to a CJ5 that's as old as I am (25), which unfortunately breaks all the
time, but it's getting there though. I've been either 3-wheeler'ing,
biking, trucking, Tracker'ing, or Jeeping since I was about 7, but it's
always been on farmlands or abandoned strip mines. I'm anxious to see what
a real Jeep can do on a real trail out West.

thanks,
Cory

Someone sent out this message last week. I received it as an attachment,
so I wanted to send it out again in case anyone got it as an attachment
and didn't open it fearing viruses...

I can't make it (wrong state!) - but hopefully some of you can - IT'S
TONIGHT!!

IMPORTANT NOTICE........... REMINDER....................

Red Shirt time again............... We NEED to show our interest and
support of OHV use. They are open enough to be conducting meetings in
Phoenix and not some small town in the middle of nowhere.......... this
is what they're normally known to do!!

It doesn't matter if your into "sand".................... support your
fellow OHV'er !!!!!!!!!!!! Unite and SHOW NUMBERS!!!

SHOW YOUR INTEREST............... WHERE RED.................. SEE YOU
ALL THERE!!!

Please pass this to your mail list. Thanks

The Phx. RMP (Resource Management Plan) for the Imperial Sand Dunes has
been rescheduled for Tuesday Sept. 25 at Phx. College Auditorium, 1202 W.
Thomas Rd. 7pm to 9pm. It is important that everyone attend to show that
we are interested in how the dunes are managed. It also is important
that we give our input on this plan.

Hopefully I will see you there.
Thanks,
Jerry
