Remember that Dick's doesn't take credit cards. Just FYI. Take cash only.
Runs about $225 for a C/V shaft from them.

Steve et. al.,

You should probably reply privately to James with your VIN and not post
it... with a group as large as ours... you never know.

Joe,

What's even funnier is I checked some old records and we (our whole family)
were out of town that week. I did some more asking of questions and it seems
my son's "best" friend had a girl friend in Tucson, at the time.
I can't wait until the Tucson records open at 8:00AM.

Subject: Pulled the transmission

Hi all,
I pulled the transmission in search of why the slave cylinder was being
temperamental. Well apparently the clutch slave cylinder is leaking. So
a replacement is necessary. I know others of dropped their transmission.
My 93YJ has an internal slave cylinder and it was a sizable PIA to get
it disconnected. It appears that the connector used for the hydraulic
line is (was) a one time compression fitting. I could not remove it so I
had to cut the hydraulic line.

My question is... Has anyone replaced this with a screw type connector?

Also has anyone converted their internal for an external slave cylinder?
What would be involved, parts and approximate cost?

Also the fifth gear is spent in the transmission. I am want to fix it. I
shouldn't have a problem I am mechanically inclined and have dug into a
manual transmission before (several years ago). I was just wondering the
pros and cons of getting a replacement or having someone else do the
work?? It looks like the main shaft bearing is sloppy too.

Thank in advance for any help.

So this is what's going on:
I just got off the phone with Tucson PD. They looked up the original
police report and it was filed under my license plate number. The
only problem was the car that was in the accident had my license
plate number from Arkansaw. Someone put an AZ in the computer report
instead of an AR. Now I have to contact MVD to have it taken off the
record of my vehicle.

Airgas in Phoenix sells used (refurbished) welders.

Every once and a while they have demos CHEAP!

They are at 24th street and University.

Ask for the list. They also have stores all over the country, and can
have a used welder from another location shipped out to you here.

They also rent MIG welders.

I bought a Lincoln PowerMIG 200 (220 volt single phase, 225 amps@ 60%
duty cycle). It is awesome! I paid $1100 plus $100.00 for the bottle
of 75/25 Argon/CO2.

If you want to build bumpers, skids, and stuff out of anything
thicker than 1/8", I would not buy anything less than 135 amps.

I've got one.

I'm in Tucson though and probably won't be up to the Phoenix area
until mid October. But, I'd be willing to meet you half-way (Casa
Grande or Coolidge) if you want it.

If you can give me a few bucks for gas money or whatever, it's yours.
Been sitting in my garage for a while now. I just want to get it out
of there.

It's off a '99 as well, so there shouldn't be any problems with it
not fitting right.

Let me know if you're interested.

Well, it looks like someone was fooling with my hi-lift rack, trying to get
at my jack during the night. Thankfully the combination lock stopped them,
but they completely ruined my rack. They must have put one of the wingnuts
back on rather hastily, because the threads are completely FUBAR'd on one of
the bolts. Somehow he got the wingnut all the way down, and now I can't get
it back off. Is there any way to fix threads, let alone any way to get the
wingnut off? Where do I buy a replacement for one side of the rack, without
having to buy a whole new set? Maybe its time to use Joey K's write up for
the roll-bar mount.

You can fix the threads. I have a tap and die set that will rethread the

Subject: WoodPecker or Box Canyon, duh wrong group??

I made it to Texaco on time, but must have been to anxious to go cause when I saw all the Jeeps taking off, me and a friend jumped in line and went with them.

OOps!

I guess I should have located Joe W and stuck with him, cause we ended up in the Woodpecker group. I am not setup for Woodpecker and my friend was in a stock 4-Runner. We decided to head south down Box canyon and thought we might meet up with the group coming up.

We still had alot of fun and I was suprised that we could get the 4-Runner over all the obstacles coming into the canyon with just a few scrapes to the skid area between the IFS & trailer hitch (Viva live axles!). We were stopped eventually by the big boulder in the tight northern section of Box canyon. The drop off would have hung up my XJ, and just forget the 4-runner.

Did the real Box Canyon group come over this obstacle, or was the run mostly in the southern part of the canyon?

Guess I'll know better next time..

Go with a CV Drivishaft, It will compleatly change the way you jeep
feels.
Mine was vibrating only at 40mph. Or so I thought. I didn't relize
how smooth a CJ could drive untill I went CV. Turns out I was blaming
a lot of other things (tires ect.) for what turned out to be
driveline vibration.

BTW: this is with over 5" of lift & 35's

I got both the driveshaft & t-case yoke from Dicks Driveshaft 35st &
Mcdowell). I ordered the driveshaft in the morning & picked it up a
few hours later. Total cost was $350. But that also included re-
building & lengthing my front drive shaft.

Only took about a hour to change the yoke & install the new DS.

Subject: [az_vjc] WoodPecker or Box Canyon, duh wrong group??
