David,
If you want a lesson in Thermodynamics/Materials that is a good way
to get one. Once you heat it up it will be soft forever and keep
bending, unless you temper it afterwards.

While vacationing in Vancouver, BC this week, I've seen some odd 4x4
vehicles. I've run across a Suzuki Samurai that looks like a CJ8. You
got it folks, a regular Sammi with about 2 extra feet out back. Don't
have any idea of what the model is called, but it could prove an
interesting platform for a future build up.
Also, up here there is no such thing as a Jeep Wrangler. They are labeled
as "YJ" or "TJ" as they should be :)
Tried to find a cheap T18 at a local wrecking yard, but only got laughs.
It seems as if they are even more rare up here than back home.

| I got a 4.5" replacement front coil from RE. RE refused to provide
| compression information.
|
| The new coil is 22.75" long, 13.25 windings, 5/6" (.625) wire, max
| compression 13.20" (if possible).
|
| We set up a coil compression measuring device in the barn using a
| Health-O-Meter bathroom balance scale (bubble level, accurate to within
| 1/4-lb) on the 20-ton press. We used a Sears Craftsman measuring tape to
| determine when the coil had compressed 1-inch. And a couple of pieces of
| wood
|
| The new RE 4.5" coil compresses at approx 170-lbs/in.
|
| We found a factory ZJ front coil (1993, 4.0l, 4x4). The factory coil
| compression was approx 110-lbs/in.
|
| Neither coil is progressive.
|
| We will be measuring the old (possibly prototype) RE 4.5" front coils
| that I got back in 1997. I suspect their compression rate will be about
| 140-lbs/in.
|
| Methinks that the new RE coil was designed for a V8 w/ARB bumper and
| winch. It most certainly will be a less than desirable coil for a 4.0l
| with no ARB bumper or winch.
|
| I will be putting the coils on just to get the ZJ back on the road and
| will most likely be ordering custom coils from National.
|
| Anybody have an email address for Ryan Wallace? He worked (owned?)

James
The authorities, according to a report I saw on CNN, have said
something about this. They are a little upset. According to the
report, although they understand the drive behind these actions, they
are saying it hampers their ability to track where information is
going and who is using these sites.
Keep in mind that our "authorities" also have a keen interest and
ability to utilize these web sites, email systems, etc to gather
crucial intel. There are government employed "hackers."
I understand and can sympathize with these hackers but in the end it
may actually hamper intel gathering by providing the target with
confirmation that their site is not as secure as they may have
thought. This will of course cause them to re-evaluate the security
setup of their sites and possibly take the whole deal off the net
thereby short circuiting a possibly great intel asset.
But I will still give a big Oh-Hah for the hackers intent!

James,
How bad did you bend the control arm bracket?
Which vehicle do you have? TJ? XJ? ZJ?
Is it driveable?
I live in Chandler, near Chandler Blvd and Rural. I can either fix
and brace your existing bracket, or fabricate one from scratch.
I am also planning to have a "skid plate party" next weekend for
those of us with four link front suspensions. I am offering to weld a
formed 1/4" thick plate over the front and bottom of the control arm
brackets to both strengthen and protect the brackets. I ordered the
steel this week, but it didn't make it in time for this weekend. I
have enough material to do a few trucks this weekend.
I am available both Saturday and Sunday.

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
