Hey folks, are any of you going to the Jamboree this year? Kurt needs
your help. As of now there are 18 trail runs that need leaders and tail
gunners. If you would like to help out you will save $25.00 on
registration and get a free staff T shirt. I know some of these trails
are boring to some of you folks that need a challenge but just one trip
out of the four days would really help. Here is more info on what is
happening.

All,

There will be a Trip Leader/Tail End Meeting on Thursday evening,
September 27 , at 7:00 PM (6:00 PM if you want to eat dinner before
the meeting) at the Las Cazuelas Restaurant located at 1526 E. Main
Street in Mesa. It's between Stapley and Gilbert on the North side of
Main Street. I will be asking for your T-Shirt size at this meeting so
if you can not make this meeting, please e-mail it to me. Please pass
this information on to anyone I did not get on this e-mail list.

Thank you all for volunteering to be Trip Leaders/Tail Ends but as of
September 20th, there are still 18 Trails that need Trip Leaders.
Please ask your Club Members and 4X4 Friends if they would be interested
in leading any of these trails. You get $25 off your
Registration Fee and a Free Jamboree Staff T-Shirt.

I have scheduled the weekend of October 6&7 to do pre-runs starting at
9:00 AM both mornings. Yes I know this is Tucson's Trail Dust
Days weekend so if you are going to Tucson you will need to schedule
another time to pre-run your trail(s). I will be going out to the
Jamboree campsite Friday night through Sunday if anyone else wants to
camp out. Look for a '75 Yellow Bronco with no top or doors
parked by an Allegro Motorhome. I'm on CB Channel 4 and my Handle is
Big Bird. My RV Cell Phone number is 602-448-4798, my Alpha
Pager is 602-420-7799.

I look forward to seeing you all next Thursday.

Kurt Loga
2001 Jamboree Chairman

How bout it folks, any one want to help?

Bob

Subject: ZJ coil rates

Linda:
RE was clueless when I called them for the same reason, but I was told by
Papromike, one of their retailers, that the rate was in fact 220psi, which
I believe because my previous Teraflex coils were rated at 205psi and these
RE springs feel slightly stiffer when I put them on. I believe the stock
rating was 167psi for non- u/c and 180psi for u/c models in the front and
150/165psi respectively in the rear. I did quite a study about a year or
so ago with respect to spring rate and lift kit setup. Here is more info
for anyone else who's interested:

'93=>'95 ZJ specs: ('96=>'98 MAY share specs)
-Stock shocks (non U/C)
front compressed- 13 3/4"
front extended- 21 3/4"
rear compressed- 13 1/4"
rear extended- 21 1/2"
-RS 9000's
front(9179)compressed- 14 3/4"
front(9179)extended- 23 1/8"
rear(9116)compressed- 14 7/8"
rear(9116)extended- 23 7/8"
-Bilstein BE5 series (claiming 10" of travel)
front(6248)- 26" extended
rear(6249)- 29.7" extended

-Stock front coils- 17 1/2" @167psi (non UC)
-Stock rear coils- 14 1/4" @150psi (non UC)
-Rusty's 3" coils- 22 1/4" @150psi
ProComp 3" front coils (for XJ and ZJ) - 18.3" @230psi (9.5 coils)
ProComp 3" rear coils - 15.8 @188psi (8.5 coils)
Rancho 3" front coils (for XJ and ZJ) - 18.5" @240psi
Rancho 3" rear coils - 15" @200psi

Hope that helps you out and may give you some perspective, Linda.

NOT TRUE anymore according to DPS. The only way to get your CCW info now
is to run a separate CCW check. Evidently it caused some confusion
amongst officers because it was a similar warning to a dangerous felon
when they did an id check.

NOT TRUE anymore. FACT, you only need to tell an officer you are armed
or in possession of a CCW if he asks. Regardless, I still hand over my
license and permit at the same time as a matter of courtesy.

Interesting stuff. I'm slightly confused on how one determines spring rate.
You say 175lbs/inch. I read that to mean, if I put 175 lbs on the spring,
say via a press, it'll compress 1".. Is that right ??

Thanks,
Fred

Talk radio reports suggesting ASU is not flying the American flag is just
categorically wrong. We are proudly displaying American flags throughout
the campus and have been doing so throughout these tragic events.

Attached is a statement providing more details.

Lattie F. Coor
President

Arizona State University

September 20, 2001

Arizona State University proudly displays American flags.

Contrary to some statements made on talk radio and picked up
nationally, Arizona State University is not removing American flags from the
university campus.

The radio discussion stems from a decision by a cafeteria employee,
in a misinterpretation of ASU policy, to remove an American flag that was
hung in a cafeteria on the ASU campus in Tempe.

Several Associated Students of ASU student senators were upset over
the removal of the flag and introduced a resolution to the student senate to
condemn the operator of the cafeteria. The student senators could not agree
on the wording of the resolution and as a result, the resolution did not
pass.

The policy that was misinterpreted requires student groups and
organizations to get permission before hanging posters, banners or any other
material in the cafeteria area.

Students who posted the flag in the cafeteria did so without talking
with anyone, resulting in the misinterpretation of the policy.

ASU regrets the misunderstanding and apologizes to anyone who was
offended by the initial removal of the flag. The university is working to
ensure that such misunderstandings do not happen again.

The American flag has been replaced and is now hanging in the cafeteria.

The ASU campus is adorned with flags. Students at Manzanita Hall have
turned their windows into a giant American flag. Other residence halls
feature flags hanging in many windows. The Memorial Union at ASU has a
large flag prominently displayed and door handles feature ribbons in
patriotic colors.

ASU also flies several American flags on a permanent basis on all of its
campus locations: near Gammage Auditorium, at the Karsten Golf Course, the
ASU Downtown Center, ASU East and ASU West.

In addition, the "A" on "A" Mountain in Tempe has been painted in patriotic
colors for more than a week.

Like the rest of the country, everyone at ASU has been deeply
affected by the tragic and horrific events in New York and Washington that
claimed more than 5,500 lives.

Since the Sept. 11 attacks on our country, ASU has shown its
patriotism and concern in numerous ways, including flying the American flag
at half staff, holding memorials, prayer vigils, panel discussions,
fundraising events, blood drives and counseling sessions.

ASU President Lattie Coor addressed the campus community during a
vigil on campus a week ago. The text of those remarks is available on-line
at (www.asu.edu/asunews/Releases/Coorspeech0901.htm/).

All of us at ASU understand that this is a time of great stress for
everyone and we will do everything possible to insure the physical and
emotional safety of all members of the university community.

The radio discussion stems from a decision by a cafeteria employee, in a misinterpretation of ASU policy, to remove an American flag that was hung in a cafeteria on the ASU
campus in Tempe.

Several Associated Students of ASU student senators were upset over the removal of the flag and introduced a resolution to the student senate to condemn the operator of the
cafeteria. The student senators could not agree on the wording of the resolution and as a result, the resolution did not pass.

The policy that was misinterpreted requires student groups and organizations to get permission before hanging posters, banners or any other material in the cafeteria area.

Students who posted the flag in the cafeteria did so without talking with anyone, resulting in the misinterpretation of the policy.

ASU regrets the misunderstanding and apologizes to anyone who was offended by the initial removal of the flag. The university is working to ensure that such
misunderstandings do not happen again.

The American flag has been replaced and is now hanging in the cafeteria.

The ASU campus is adorned with flags. Students at Manzanita Hall have turned their windows into a giant American flag. Other residence halls feature flags hanging in many
windows. The Memorial Union at ASU has a large flag prominently displayed and door handles feature ribbons in patriotic colors.

ASU also flies several American flags on a permanent basis on all of its campus locations: near Gammage Auditorium, at the Karsten Golf Course, the ASU Downtown Center, ASU East
and ASU West.

In addition, the "A" on "A" Mountain in Tempe has been painted in patriotic colors for more than a week.

Like the rest of the country, everyone at ASU has been deeply affected by the tragic and horrific events in New York and Washington that claimed more than 5,500 lives.

Since the Sept. 11 attacks on our country, ASU has shown its patriotism and concern in numerous ways, including flying the American flag at half staff, holding memorials,
prayer vigils, panel discussions, fundraising events, blood drives and counseling sessions.

ASU President Lattie Coor addressed the campus community during a vigil on campus a week ago. The text of those remarks is available on-line at
(www.asu.edu/asunews/Releases/Coorspeech0901.htm/).

All of us at ASU understand that this is a time of great stress for everyone and we will do everything possible to insure the physical and emotional safety of all members
of the university community.

Subject: U.S. Flag on A.S.U. Campus

Dear Mr. Coor,

My name is Roger Tomas and I am an alumni of A.S.U. I've recently heard
about a decision not to fly the American flag on the A.S.U. campus due
to the possibility that certain people may be offended. This is an
outrage. It is an embarassment to our country and an insult to those
who have fought for our freedoms - especially to those who have made
the ultimate sacrifice. It is also an insult to the victims of the
recent terrorist attacks. We are currently in a period of mourning
and flags are to be flown at half-mast in memorium to those victims.

If what I've heard is incorrect and my comments are unwarranted, please
accept my apology. Otherwise, I ask that you please correct this wrong.

Thank you.

Where and what are these pavilions? I'm not exactly new to the area but
haven't technically lived here long due to my jobs travel requirements.

The Pavillions is a shopping center at Pima andIndian Bend Roads
over in Scottsdale. Don't confuse it with the Bell Pavillions
which is at Bell Road and I-17.

Why not just have a run of some type ( through town ) to raise money for
the Red Cross or ? to help with the disaster. I would be willing to help
and as the Wheel Dust editor I could mail invites to another 1050
people. We would have a possibility of over 2000 4 X 4 vehicles in a
line. Even if only a small percentage could make it, it would be a heck
of a showing for our sport and the GOOD we do. Just a thought.
