That's interesting. Thanks for posting it, though I'm sure the OT police are on the way.

If you want to see something weird, open Microsoft Word and type in NYC in upper case in like size 48 font. after that highlight it and convert it to wingding font. if that's too weird change it to webdings....

I'm going to have to agree with Joey K on this. BLM land is federal land and
state trust land is state land. They are managed by different organizations.
The permit we always refer to is the State Land Use Permit. As far as I know
BLM does not require a permit on most of its land.

Most of the people I wheel with believe in getting the State Land Use
permit. If you want to break the law then go ahead. But I don't think its
very wise to go on a public forum and advertise that you do. I have been
asked for my permit in the past. Unless you are actively hunting on State
Trust Land you are required to have one for all other purposes. Anything
else may lead to a trespassing charge.

AJ Card,
I respectfully disagree. BLM and State Trust Land are two different
departments. BLM is an agency within the U.S. Department of Interior.
State Trust Land is managed by Arizona.

I unfortunatly do not know what the money from the sale of STL permits
go. I believe it goes into maintaining those lands for our use. Just
because everyone is doing 75 in a 65 does not make it right. A while
back it was brought up by the "greenies" that there are only small
amount of people using the land [legally]. They were noting the number
of permits issued.

Where do you get permits for traveling offroad on Reservation land? Is
there a central office downtown or do you have to go to the particular
Res for it?

It is a shame that this country's own flag has become such a
controversy in the past few days. And to me it is even more shameful
that ASU is now a part of this controversy. The flag stands for
Freedom and the millions of Americans that gave up everything to
defend it. It does not, as some suggest, represent oppression.

Today we mourn the passing of an old friend, by the name of Common
Sense.

Common Sense lived a long life but died from heart failure on the
brink of the millennium. No one really knows how old he was since his
birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He
selflessly devoted his life to service in schools, hospitals, homes,
factories and offices, helping folks get jobs done without fanfare
and foolishness.

For decades, petty rules, silly laws and frivolous lawsuits held no
power over Common Sense. He was credited with cultivating such valued
lessons as to know when to come in out of the rain, the early bird
gets the worm, and life isn't always fair. Common Sense lived by
simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn),
reliable parenting strategies (the adults are in charge, not the
kids), and it's okay to come in second.

A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the
Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and
educational trends including body piercing, whole language and "new
math." But his health declined when he became infected with the "If-
it-only-helps-one-person-it's-worth-it" virus. In recent decades his
waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing
regulations.

He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking
lawyers. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly
implemented zero tolerance policies, reports of six-year-old boys
charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, a teen
suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher
fired for reprimanding an unruly student. It declined even further
when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a
student but cannot inform the parent when the female student is
pregnant or wants an abortion.

Finally, Common Sense lost his will to live as the Ten Commandments
became contraband, churches became businesses, criminals received
better treatment than victims, and federal judges stuck their noses
in everything from Boy Scouts to professional sports. Finally a woman
who was stupid enough not to realize that coffee is hot and was
awarded a huge payoff caused Common Sense to finally throw in the
towel. As the end neared, Common Sense drifted in and out of logic
but was kept informed of developments, regarding questionable
regulations for asbestos, low flow toilets, bicycle helmets and
mandatory air bags.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust;
his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son,
Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers: My Rights and Ima Whiner.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

I AM THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

I am the flag of the United States of America. My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings. I stand watch in America's
halls of justice. I fly majestically over institutions of learning. I
stand guard with power in the world. Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice. I stand for freedom. I
am confident. I am arrogant. I am proud.

When I am flown with my fellow banners, my head is a little higher,
my colors a little truer.

I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world. I am worshipped - I am saluted. I
am loved - I am revered. I am respected - and I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war for more than 200 years.

I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox. I was
there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne
Forest, Anzio, Rome, and the beaches of Normandy, Guam, Okinawa,
Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me; I was there.

I led my troops, I was dirty, battle-worn and tired, but my soldiers
cheered me And I was proud.

I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I
have helped set free. It does not hurt, for I am invincible.

I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of
my country.

And when it's by those whom I've served in battle - it hurts. But I
shall overcome - for I am strong.

I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted
frontiers of space from my vantage-point on the moon.

I have borne silent witness to all of America's finest hours. But my
finest hours are yet to come.

When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded
comrades on the battlefield, when I am flown at half-mast to honor my
soldier, or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at
the grave of their fallen son or daughter, I am proud.

Joey,

You are correct, it is the Arizona State Trust Land that requires a use
permit, issued for 365 days at a time (valid for one year from date of
purchase). If BLM requires a permit for individual wheelin', I've not heard
anything about it since I started.

I fully support this permit as it shows that I am using this land. I
clearly state on the permit that I am using my Jeep to drive on the land
(they have various classes of use). The next time some bean counter decides
to see if the land is being used by the off-road community, at least I know
that my actions are being counted. If folks skip around the $20 fee, I
believe they are doing themselves, and me, a disfavor.

I thought you needed a permit for State Trust Land and not BLM. Please
correct me if I am wrong.

Re-newing your permit is not only to be on the land legally but to also
shows that people are being responsible.

I would not mess with traveling on Resevertion land. You may loose your
Jeep.

I bought some 1/8 inch diamond plate steel rear 1/4 panel protectors
about 3 years ago for my Jeep. After years of smashing them into
everything for 3 years without any damage I finally managed to bend
one by falling into a large crack onto the rear 1/4. When I called
for a new one, he said he wasn't going to charge me, even though I
tried to pay. Anyway, the quality of these is excellent and the
service the best, so I feel obligated to pass on his address in case
anyone needs some. They can be mounted over damaged 1/4 panels and
still look great. http://www.4x4now.com/4wsbioy.htm

Also I recently installed a Belly up skid plate on my 95 YJ. Gives
you about 2.5" more clearance, best as I could measure from the stock
one, which was demolished. With the 6 cyl you have to have a 2" body
lift, short kit and weld on new perches at the correct angle. I have
an Atlas 2 and a high pinion 9 so I didn't have much driveline
problem and the perches where already welded for a 4" lift. I think
without a high pinion your driveline might be a problem. Also the
kit comes with spacers to raise the engine 1 inch for driveline
angle. I installed 1" mounts instead.

Subject: Interesting ZJ coil compression information

I got a 4.5" replacement front coil from RE. RE refused to provide
compression information.

The new coil is 22.75" long, 13.25 windings, 5/6" (.625) wire, max
compression 13.20" (if possible).

We set up a coil compression measuring device in the barn using a
Health-O-Meter bathroom balance scale (bubble level, accurate to within
1/4-lb) on the 20-ton press. We used a Sears Craftsman measuring tape to
determine when the coil had compressed 1-inch. And a couple of pieces of
wood

The new RE 4.5" coil compresses at approx 170-lbs/in.

We found a factory ZJ front coil (1993, 4.0l, 4x4). The factory coil
compression was approx 110-lbs/in.

Neither coil is progressive.

We will be measuring the old (possibly prototype) RE 4.5" front coils
that I got back in 1997. I suspect their compression rate will be about
140-lbs/in.

Methinks that the new RE coil was designed for a V8 w/ARB bumper and
winch. It most certainly will be a less than desirable coil for a 4.0l
with no ARB bumper or winch.

I will be putting the coils on just to get the ZJ back on the road and
will most likely be ordering custom coils from National.

Anybody have an email address for Ryan Wallace? He worked (owned?)
Rubicon Express back in 1997. I would like to find out what happened
with the coil springs and the changes made to the RE control arms.

Permits for travel (day trips and camping) on reservation land can, in
most cases, be picked up at bait shops and sporting goods stores. You
need to check around. The Rez' in Az have some pretty good fishing
holes.

Az State Trust Land is land held in trust and sold to highest bidder to
fund public education in Arizona. The recreation permit money, I
suspect, is just an added bonus. Thank Tammy Pike for her work in
promoting OHV recreation on ASTL.

BLM is land managed (like Joey said) by the federal government.

AZSTL and BLM are separate entities. The only time you need a permit to
access BLM land is for events that generate money or if you plan on
having a large group of people in one spot (Burning Man Festival for
example). Te average 4-wheeler need not be concerned with a permit
unless speciall access is required.

Yes, there are some 4x4 trails on government land that require permits,
but I can't think of any cases on BLM or ASTL. The ones I know of are
the Camino del Diablo (National Wildlife Refuge & Marine Gunnery Range)
and BullDog Canyon (National Forest, USDA).

Hey Joe - I was a federally licensed firearms dealer for many years and the
law in AZ is if it is in a holster you can keep it just about anywhere you
want. Your glove box, center consol, under your seat, etc. One major thing
to know is if you get pulled over by the police the first thing you need to
do is tell him you have a firearm in you vehicle. He will ask you for it and
after he is has finished his business with you he will return it.

Handgun.

I suspect, like many Americans; I was pushed over the top by the latest
round of violence. While I don't yet know if I will ever carry concealed, I
am taking a conceal carry class next week. I figure the training will be
good since it has been almost 30 years since I had formal training on a .45
caliber handgun. The idiot who killed the owner of my favorite gas station
last week was the straw that broke the camels back...

you are in your Jeep? It is my understanding that as long as they are in a
holster, you can carry them pretty much anywhere (the gentleman at the gun
store told me this).

Since this is weak in the Jeep content arena, please feel free to contact me
directly.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Subject: RE7000 4.5" lift

Well, FINALLY I am going to have a "real" lift. I ordered a
Rubicon Express 4.5" Superflex for the TJ today from Toybox Offroad.
What a great price, and great service. Thanks, guys.

Now, as soon as it comes in, who wants to take pity on me and
help me bolt it all on? I had a tread separation on two of the 31"
SSRs on I-10 the other day, so I am running the stock wheels and
tires. Yup, it will look funny until I get some new 35" MT-Rs on
there, but that will be soon enough.

So, who might be willing to bestow some knowledge and skill upon
me and my soon to be oh-so-cool Jeep? I would like to have the sye
by the time the lift kit gets here, which only leaves a cv driveshaft
to get. Any recommendations on driveshafts? gloeco? Dick's? RE?
What experiences any of you have would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Lachlan

Sounds like it is time for another wrenching party! I'm unavailable the
first 2.5 weekends in October. When do you get the lift?

Hello!

My best man is throwing me a bachelor party on Saturday night. Any of you fellow AZVJC guys that want to come out are more than welcome. I've made friends with so many of you that I'd like to invite you all. Even those of you that I may have PO'd at one time or another ;) I've only got 2 short weeks left until I'm shackled and possibly never heard from again.

Please contact Phil sometime on Friday and let him know if you are coming over so he can forward you directions and make final preparations if you know what I mean. He lives near Northern and 39th Ave.

Subject: New Member needs Help.

Hi everyone,
I have just found out about this Yahoo Group.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Peter, I live just outside of Kingman
Az. in Golden Valley.
We recently traded in our '88 Cherokee which had a Pro-Comp 4" lift and 31"
BFGs for a Dakota 4x4, 4 door pickup as the wife needed a newer 4 door
pickup for her work as a Realtor in Golden Valley.
This left me without a "toy", so I started the search, well there are not
too many Jeeps for sale around here and those that were needed to be a
project. I already have enough projects with building a '54 Chevy for the
wife and converting a 40' Greyhound bus into a motorhome, so another project
was not acceptable at this time.
I eventually found just what I was searching for. I am now the proud owner
of a '77 CJ7, 304-V8, with a Turbo-400 and a Dana 20 t/case, along with 4.56
gears. Has a 3" body lift and a spring lift, 35x12.50 Dunlops and an 8000lb
Warn winch up front. Came with a bim(k)ini top and soft tops too. Goes
well, except the fact that the torque convertor is a little too tight for my
liking.
I do have one question of you all, can I tow this all 4 down? I have had
all sorts of different opinions, including that I can tow it all day at any
speed as long as the transfer case is in neutral, to leaving one hub locked
on the front axle, transfer case in neutral and transmission in Park. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
The transfer case has a casting number: C18-15-24 8
The tag bolted on reads: 300596125
5357020
The speedo drive exits towards the driver's side and the tailhousing looks
very much like cast iron, so even though the tag starts with 300, I dont
think it is one. Also, the pan is about an inch or so deep. Thanks.
Peter.

Subject: ASA4WDC Jamboree

Hey folks, are any of you going to the Jamboree this year? Kurt needs
your help. As of now there are 18 trail runs that need leaders and tail
gunners. If you would like to help out you will save $25.00 on
registration and get a free staff T shirt. I know some of these trails
are boring to some of you folks that need a challenge but just one trip
out of the four days would really help. Here is more info on what is
happening.

All,

There will be a Trip Leader/Tail End Meeting on Thursday evening,
September 27 , at 7:00 PM (6:00 PM if you want to eat dinner before
the meeting) at the Las Cazuelas Restaurant located at 1526 E. Main
Street in Mesa. It's between Stapley and Gilbert on the North side of
Main Street. I will be asking for your T-Shirt size at this meeting so
if you can not make this meeting, please e-mail it to me. Please pass
this information on to anyone I did not get on this e-mail list.

Thank you all for volunteering to be Trip Leaders/Tail Ends but as of
September 20th, there are still 18 Trails that need Trip Leaders.
Please ask your Club Members and 4X4 Friends if they would be interested
in leading any of these trails. You get $25 off your
Registration Fee and a Free Jamboree Staff T-Shirt.

I have scheduled the weekend of October 6&7 to do pre-runs starting at
9:00 AM both mornings. Yes I know this is Tucson's Trail Dust
Days weekend so if you are going to Tucson you will need to schedule
another time to pre-run your trail(s). I will be going out to the
Jamboree campsite Friday night through Sunday if anyone else wants to
camp out. Look for a '75 Yellow Bronco with no top or doors
parked by an Allegro Motorhome. I'm on CB Channel 4 and my Handle is
Big Bird. My RV Cell Phone number is 602-448-4798, my Alpha
Pager is 602-420-7799.

I look forward to seeing you all next Thursday.

Kurt Loga
2001 Jamboree Chairman

How bout it folks, any one want to help?

Bob
