Subject: Himalaya Bay Trip Update, new date: October 25th-October 28th, 2001
Hello Everyone,
Just a quick note to let you know that I moved the Himalaya bay trip up one
week for two reasons:
1. The Dive Shop from Tucson will be there that weekend so air tank refills
will be extremely convenient, there will be showers there, and normal
bathrooms since they bring them and allow us to use them for a few dollars
for the whole weekend.
2. It gets the trip away from the Parker event... which I really want to
attend.
I hope since this is far enough out, that this does not impact anyone who
has signed up.
Also... for those of you who are interested in completing an open water
diver certification while at Himalaya Bay, I'll be doing the confined water
and classroom work for a full certification the weekend before. If you are
interested, let me know.
Kind Regards,
Joe West

Have to be careful, or at least you used to have to be, about handing out
flyers. For some reason the reservation police used to get upset about
handing out flyers for shows other than what was going on there at their
location. Maybe things have changed, which I hope they have, cause they
were going to actually arrest us one night for handing out flyers for a
charity car show we were putting on.

I just bought a soundbar and new CD player. I'm having the CD player installed today, but they wanted $100 to hook up my soundbar. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to this stuff, so I was wondering if anyone might be able to give me a hand with hooking it up sometime soon. I'm always afraid of messing something up. New York's Cablevision Bans American Flag
While most Americans can't get enough of Old Glory in the wake of last week's terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon - and major cable news providers like Fox News and CNN display a graphic of the flag 24 hours a day - New York's Cablevision Corp., owner of Cable News Channel 12, has actually banned the American flag from news programming.
News 12 is broadcast over the Cablevision system, one of the country's largest, reaching 1.5 million homes through metropolitan New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Cablevision, headed by media mogul Charles Dolan, also owns "The Wiz," Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, the Knicks and the Rangers, and cable channel American Movie Classics - among its many media and entertainment properties.
"Our office is a newsroom and news people are committed to supplying objective information on events here and around the world," wrote Pat Dolan, News 12 news director, in a memo banning on-air flag displays distributed to employees Sunday.
Long Island's Newsday reported the story in editions today.
Dolan became concerned when American flags began popping up in his newsroom and - horrors - even on the lapels of some of his anchors. Meanwhile all the other networks, both broadcast and cable, drench themselves in red, white and blue.
"We have to avoid giving a false impression that we lean one way or the other," said the news director. Dolan is apparently trying to strike a balance between his fellow Americans and the terrorists who have vowed to kill them.
In an interview with Long Island's Newsday, which reported News 12's flag ban in print editions only, Dolan admitted the move has angered some of his employees.
"We've had a few heated discussions."
But he stuck to his guns. "What we're trying to do is make clear that our guys can express their patriotism, but we don't want the flag to be associated with their daily activities as electronic journalists."
Dolan called the on-air flag waving "a real problem when war breaks out," explaining that he doesn't want his viewers to get the impression that "we may subtly endorse what the government is doing."
To share your views on News 12's American flag ban, call Cablevision headquarters at (516) 803-2300.

Hello all,
I have seen some members that are Scout owners. A co-worker has a 68 Scout - even has a V-8 in it. She is wondering if any of the Scout owners might be single. She says it would be a bonus if that single person is mechanically inclined.

I have a set of black hard doors that are from my 85 CJ7. The exterior paddle on the driver's door does not work, the interior handle does. The seals are worn out, but overall the doors are in very good shape. I will accept any reasonable offer. Jeepers know what they are worth.
I put this add out 2 weeks ago but unfortunately had to leave town and then got stuck out due to the attacks. I would like to appologize to anyone who may have tried to contact me about these and I didn't respond. I will be here to answer email or call me 480-213-4091.

Subject: [TR] Woodpecker (Upper) - Sunday, September 23, 2001
Hello All,
Scott Grigsby is leading a Woodpecker (Upper) trail run on Sunday, September 23, 2001.
When: Sunday Sep. 23
Where: We will meet at the Texaco at Florance Junction at 8:00AM
Rating: 4.0+
Length: better part of the day
CB Channel: 10
I ran this trail one year ago and want to run it again. My brother has broken out into Wheeling and wants to drive. I think at least one locker would be helpful, however the last time I did the run a stock TJ with only a Trac-lock had no trouble. I want to take some video of the run.
Upper Woodpecker is a wash that runs to the Woodpecker Mine. Years ago this wash was the actual road from the mine. There have been many hours of fun playing and traversing on this trail. It offers rock ledges, cracks, "tippy spots" and is the home of the infamous "Fire Hole". It was one of the first "extreme" trails offered in Arizona.
Over the years this trail has seen the result of "rock stacking" and "ramp building" that has down rated the trail from a 4.5 to a 4.0 but it still has a number of "play areas" and lockers are still required for the harder portion of the trail.
Upon exiting the wash you will climb to the top of the hill where the mine is located. There is an amethyst pit mine near the entrance to the Woodpecker Mine where you will most likely find several "rock hounds" or mountain bikers.
Don't forget your lunch and water. This is one of the longer trails and is normally an all day trip.
Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Handgun.
I suspect, like many Americans; I was pushed over the top by the latest
round of violence. While I don't yet know if I will ever carry concealed, I
am taking a conceal carry class next week. I figure the training will be
good since it has been almost 30 years since I had formal training on a .45
caliber handgun. The idiot who killed the owner of my favorite gas station
last week was the straw that broke the camels back...
Jeep content: Those of you who have handguns, where do you carry them when
you are in your Jeep? It is my understanding that as long as they are in a
holster, you can carry them pretty much anywhere (the gentleman at the gun
store told me this).
Since this is weak in the Jeep content arena, please feel free to contact me

My understanding is as long as it is holstered or in a glove box it
is fine.I will look in AZ handgun book and get back with you on the

I live in Gilbert.
Thanks,

Hello all,
I have seen some members that are Scout owners.
