If you don't find one used, check out http://www.tollgas.com/

They sell the Handler 135s for $435 and the 175s for $540. The price
(at least when I bought my 175), includes shipping.

http://www.tollgas.com/specials/ivn_reduc.html

It was the cheapest price I found by far.

Anyone else have problems with massive amounts of dust accumulating inside
their head units? My cd player has ruined a good portion of my collection by
grinding the cd against the dirt while ejecting cd's. I try to get as much
out as possible with compressed air after every wheeling trip, but the
effect is just too cumulative to stop. I had to ditch my cd player the other
day because it was simply uncleanable, and was barely working. Anyone come
up with any ideas for some sort of sleeve that might go around the hole in
the dash for the cd player? I don't want to have to duct tape the front of
my cd player every time I go out wheeling... its nice to listen to music, ya
know? Since I'm in the market for a new one, any suggestions for cheap units
that won't skip on the trail?

Subject: [TR] South End White Tanks Area - Saturday, September 22, 2001

Hello All,

Michael Chatfield is leading a South End White Tanks Area trail run on Saturday, September 22, 2001.

When: Meet at 7:30 am
Roll Out at 8:00 am
Where: Love's Truck Stop.
Take I-10 to Miller Rd, then Miller Rd South to Love's Truck Stop on the right hand side of the road.
Rating: 2.0+
Length: Until it gets hot.
CB Channel: 4

Planning on just doing a little exploring of the easier trails in the area.

This is a great run if you've never gotten your Jeep's tires dirty before.

The South end of the White Tanks has a variety of trails for exploration. Cutting through the top is an old powerline trail that goes from the old Catapillar test track all the way out to the Hassayampa Riverbed.

There are also numerous washes to explore, the furthure up the washes you go the tougher they get. There are a variety of side trails and hill climbs to try as well as a large hill of sand left over from when they were building I-10.

Some of the Named Trails in the area include:
Appetizer
Firebird
Tax Collector

lol....I hear that one. I got into my Honda for the
first thing yesterday night and did exactly that, put
the clutch almost through the firewall..hehe. I think
it grips better...although, my clutch was slipping a
little before the new one so that might be it too ;-).
I do like the resistance though, should build up the
leg muscles really quick.

The other problem is that the dust is not only getting in the face plate but
it is probably getting in through the ventilation holes in the body of the
unit itself. You obviously can't wrap it since it will then overheat.
I think what I am going to do for my next head unit is to buy a cassete
stereo that has an input jack for external devices like CD or MP3 players.
This way my kids can listen to their childrens tapes or I can plug in an MP3
player or one of those super shock-guarded portable CD players. This would
keep my CDs from skipping on the trail and I can lock it up in a center
console when not in use or bring it inside. The portable CD players will
also keep out dust better. The other possible advantage to this is not many
thieves want to steal a casette type stereo these days.

Just my opinions,

Hmmm... It seems like what you need is a solid state player for your Jeep. Something small that can be mounted in any position. Something that can handle a lot of bouncing around. Who could make such a device?

Check out the MP3 changer at

http://rockets2.rockfordcorp.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/RFProductsListNonBuy-Start;%24sid%24Dci6Ozun26bC1IDmSDSDfG0rkGyygIGf?Ca tegoryName=RF_Products

This would seem to be much better than scratching up those fragile CDs.

first off i just carry copies of my cds with me in the jeep. its cool because i can usually fit two cds onto one blank one so i can carry twice as many with me and its not too big of a deal if they get damaged. second, i just use the cd players that have the flip down face so it covers the opening for the cd. i havent had any problems with dust or dirt getting in. the face gets all dusty but i just wipe it off. ive had a few like this all with success. the only reason i do go through them every couple of years is because i drive a CJ and the dash isnt sealed. every time it rains water gets all over the deck and after time it just dies. hope this helps you out.

Subject: Axle Advice/Opinions?

I'm in the process of planning my route to build a 9".

Afterwards it would mean I would have my TJ's D35 no longer in
service. I know D35s are not the most wanted axle, but it has 4.10s,
Lockright and Moser axle shafts (according to Moser 30% stronger than
stock, but I have no data for comparison). Everything thing is in
perfect working order with 14K miles.

Should I attempt to sell the whole thing as one, or sell the locker,
gears and shafts seperately? I was thinking that someone with a D35
might like to buy a complete rear end, locked w/ upgraded shafts for
a few hundred dollars.

Just looking for some opinions.

Thanks,
Dan

Subject: And now for Round 2!!! This time it is Rubicon Express

Is anyone out there as fed up as I am with after market parts suppliers?
Last Friday the front-left coil broke on the ZJ. I contacted RE about
replacements and possible warranty claims. RE, as usual, was courteous
and quick in responding. The coils arrived today.

Cool!

Wrong! First TeraFlex with their inept parts ordering practices. Now
Rubicon Express has a clerk who not only packages two coils of different
lengths, but the wrong parts altogether -- and ships them!!

Here's the question. What did RE send me? I haven't a clue, but I most
certainly don't want snowplow springs on the old Grand Cherokee!

Heres the Photopoint URL
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=46021&a=13756804&f=0

The picture of the coil on the Jeep (not the broken coil, even though
that is an interesting picture) shows what a coil for a 4.5" lift on a
ZJ should look like. We lifted the Jeep until the tire was off the
ground. The coil is approx 20" long, 9-3/4 windings, 5.25" overall dia,
and the wire dia is .562 (silver coating, not paint). Notice the big
gaps.

The picture of the coils on the red background are what RE sent me. I
think these are TJ coils
The smaller coil is 20.75" long, 12-1/2 windings, wire dia .625
(w/paint)
The longer coil is 22.75" long, 13-1/4 windings, wire dia .625 (w/paint)
I doubt that the paint is 0.25" thick on these springs!

I am not a happy camper!
Linda

I might be up for this run as well, will check my schedule.

I'm fairly new to the sport and would love to get out and do some
wheelin that doesn't require lockers.

Aaron,

I'm glad to hear it went in fairly smoothly. I bet you had a great learning
experience doing it yourself. Nothing makes me feel more proud of my Jeep
than finishing up a job like this. I'm sure you know the feeling :)

Later,

Scott

Hello everyone,

I installed a Luk Pro Gold clutch over the weekend
thanks to a neighbor that had a floor jack to lend and
a few days to complete it in. The most difficult part
of the installation was seperating the trans and TC
from the engine and flywheel assembly, seems there are
two nubs that stick out(one on each side) that were a
little rusty so I had to whack at it with a 5 pound
sledge to loosen it. Once that was done, the rest went
pretty smooth. My first thoughts on the clutch itself
were that it seems a lot stiffer to push down. The
grip is great though, tons better than stock. I'll
have to wait for the first run that I take it on to
get any other opinions but I just wanted to thank
everyone that suggested the Luk, it seems like it was
a good choice so far.

Here's a few more facts.
Using the Pro Shock Coil Spring Rate Calculator
http://www.proshocks.com/calcs/coilsprate.html

Original spring rate = 139.6
new short coil = 173.5
new long coil = 163.7
