Subject: Re: RE 6" vs Skyjacker 6"

Skyjacker no longer sells direct to the public. RE still does. Both
companies make great suspension products. Steve and I have used
Skyjacker's 2" and 4" lifts for Dodge trucks and (most recently) the old
IH Scout. I put an original RE 4.5" lift on the ZJ. Both companies have
good technical support.

If you are considering the Skyjacker single or double flex suspension
kits, you might reconsider if you like going faster than 20 mph on dirt
roads or if you like driving it on the streets. Rod-end bearings have no
cushioning and will cause breakage if you aren't really easy on the
Jeep. It took four years for the RE heim-jointed suspension I had on the
ZJ to finally destroy itself and the Jeep. I am a very cautious driver
on the trails. If I were a fast driver (like many are) the suspension
probably would have lasted 1-2 years. Rod-end bearing suspensions work
extremely well, but are best on vehicles that are not daily drivers.

1996 USA Venturecraft Trailblazer 2 person tent trailer in good

Keith at 602 938-4098 or e-mail murray317@a....

I found this in the AZLR4WDC Newsletter. I know there were folks
inquiring about small off-road tent trailers. The Venturcarft is a very
nice off-highway tent trailer. I have owned mine since 1998 and have
used it heavily. $2000 is a good price.

The trailer has a queen size bed, and on-the-ground dressing area, and a
storage compartment that can be accessed with the tent up or down. I
don't know if this one has the ice chest platform. No axle to get in the
way. I think they weigh about 350# empty. 33x12.50s can fit inside the
wheel wells.

Subject: RE: Alumi-Flex Tie Rod?

Rick,

I recently finished a trip on the Rubicon Trail. Several of us were running
the ZJ tie-rods. I can say that the ZJ is pretty tough....tough enough to
cause the factory drag link to fail while the tie-rod remained in fine
condition.

This did not come from a hit on the rock, but rather the result of not
having one of the front wheels being properly driven. I do not recommend
doing the Rubicon in 3 wheel drive. The details are on my web site in the
trips section....just look for the Rubicon 2001 trip.

So what does this all mean? Well, as you beef up one part, you move the
"weak link" to another part. Of course, if you get all of the parts
improved enough, nothing will break (in theory) ;) After seeing the stress
put on the drag link during the Rubicon trip, I think the ZJ tie rod is a
pretty beefy mod. Had he had all 4 wheels pulling, nothing wouled have
failed.

I was thinking of replacing my slightly bent one in my 98TJ with this

replace the ends because I swear that is where part of the bend is. I'm
looking at the ZJ upgrade as well.

Hey Stu,

I have a bent ZJ tie-rod at home. I think the previous owner ran it into
a parking block or something. I drove with it for a couple of years
before replacing it. Didn't have have any trouble aligning the front end
with the bent tie-rod either! So it must be some pretty tough stuff! I
replaced all the ball studs and drag-link last week (they were original
with over 130k miles and a little sloppy). ;-)

I managed to get the broken bolt out of my M-20 yoke. I wound up
drilling out the broken part & re-tapping the hole. I even went
wheeling with it this morning & everything seemed fine.
The problem is I'm still paranoid & don't feel totally secure about
driving & wheeling much with it after having to rework the hole, The
bolt just didn't feel right going in.
I have a new yoke ready to put on but, I can't get the pinion nut
off.
I have tried everything I can think of. Breaker bars, sledge
hammers,heat..... I even went & bought a new IR 1/2 Drive 700ftlbs
(reverse) impact gun, I have a 60gallon 6.5hp 9.9scfm compressor (I
think that should be enough to pull it)& the darn thing wouldn't
budge.

Any suggestions? It's not a left handed thread is it?

Depends on what you're looking for. A lot of the ghost towns don't have much
left. One that's still pretty in tact is Stanton (NE of Wickenberg), but
the whole town is owned by a group of miners (still active claims) and last
time I was there, it was chained off.

Octave is also that way, but there's not much left of it.

Reymert is off near FJ - and there are some remnants of the smelter - but
again - nothing much left.

On the road to CK, they're Cleator and Bumble Bee.

Off toward the Superstitions, there's Goldfield - which is actually a ghost
town that's been created near where the actual town site was. They have mine
tours, a train, cowboys walking around, and helicopter rides round the
Superstitions. That may be more appealing to an 8 year old.

Also - In Gold Canyon (east of AJ) - there's an old move set (western town
created as a set) - that's kinda neat - she may enjoy that.

Just some ideas

Doug

Here's a pretty good website for Ghost Towns in Arizona

Most that I have visited have very little to see. Never been to
Vulture Mine (north and west of Wickenberg), but I've heard good
things about it. Not really a 4WD trip though.

Good Luck,
