I completely twisted one of my front LCA brackets. John professionally
replaced them for a very reasonable price and then as an added bonus fabbed
up some way cool 1/4" skids for the new brackets and replaced my stock
control arm. All for the price I would expect to pay for just the brackets
(which was way less than 4 wheelers).

I have a small favor to ask. I have friends from Pakistan who are camping
their way around the States, Canada, and parts of Europe. They have asked
me if I know where they might be able to go without spending large amounts
of money. I said I would try my friends and family for accommodations.
They travel light and bring all their own camping gear, and only require a
small place to set up. I have given them your name and address anyway in

There's a picture at the end to help identification if they turn up. They may

yes, at times the ESA goes to far, but at other times it doesnt go far
enough. there are already to many species (to many being more than one) on

behind it is a good one. since the the extinction of the dinasours, we
are currently experiencing the most rapid extinction of plants and animals
ever. and the sad part is humans have been to blame for much of this
tragedy. over the last century it is estimated that a third, yes a third,

Club Members.
I have setup a deal with the Dicount Tire and Dobson and Mian Street in
Mesa. I worked out an arrangment that if I send my customers over to their
store for tires, they would get some kind of dicsount. That way I can try and
help my customers in their tire needs. BUT, at the end of our conversation
I also happened to mention, "Ever here of Arizona Virtula Jeep club....?"
I got him to honor the same kind of discount for me, for you guys, the club.
When you go in, ask for Phil the manager, or Jason. Let them you know you
are part of the club, and that I refered you guys over there.
Now, there is no flat rate for the discount. For instance, if you buy
tires, the discount will vary depending on the brand. They have room to move
on price on different lines of tire. And that depends on the tire
manufacturer. I was told, give or take would be between 5 to 10% off. They
would also help with repairs and what not.
I hope this works out. he has taken care of a couple of my customers, but I
guess I will have to see what he does for you guys. So if anyone tries,
please let me know how it works out.
Good luck.
The second bit of goodnews I would like to pass on is that I have setup and
account with RedLine Raceing Fluids. They make additives for everything from
your raditor to gear oil. No, its not some Duralub knock off wanna be. This
is stuff has been around for alot longer, and is proven to work. To club
memebers, I am selling it pennies over my cost. The factory rep was good to
me and I would like to move some product. If you have any questions, feel
free to email me or call me at the shop, 480-557-7577
Hope this helps you guys out, take care

Honest question here, *NOT* intended as flame bait / troll:
How does one go about measuring the rate of extinction for species throughout
history? Surely we don't have a record of every species that's ever existed,
and I doubt we have a complete listing of all that exist now. Are there
hard facts to prove these assertions?
Feel free to respond offlist, as this could easily become an OT slugfest.

Rocks, waterfalls, off-camber spots and more rocks! Big Rocks.
Whereas there are several by-passes, even the by-passes have taken it's toll on sheet medal and paint.
This trail definitely requires full hard lockers in front and rear, lots of clearance, aggressive tires 33" or larger and an experienced driver.

My wifes ZJ did the same thing until I replaced the radiator and the trans

flowing fluid to the trans...I was told this will DESTROY your trans and it
is a VERY well known problem. I put a new Mopar radiator and lines in the ZJ

Brian,
What my be happening is when sitting the fluid in the torque converter is
draining out of the converter and it can take a few minutes for the fluid to
pumped back into the converter. This a very common problem on the TH350
trany. One way that you may be able to verify this is by checking the fluid
level when first started. If the fluid in the converter is draining over
night the fluid level will be high on the dip stick when cold and normal
when hot. Normally the fluid level will be lower when cold and higher up on
the dip stick when hot due to the expansion of the fluid when hot. The
reason the fluid can drain down is due to a faulty valve or solenoid in side
the trany.

How old is your Jeep?
Sounds to me like the seals are going bad. The fluid
leaks past the seals and won't let the hydraulics
actuate. After the fluid heats up a bit it makes the
seals swell and lets you shift. Unfortunately, if you
take it to a shop, they will probably take some money
from you to tell you the same thing, then offer to fix
it for about 1200-2000 bucks. Or you can deal with it
for the next 1 to 5 years till it totally goes bad.
Hope this helps you out.

Himalaya Bay, Mexico Discover SCUBA Certification Trip
Prepare to enter another world& a world of fascinating sea creatures from puffer fish and lobsters, to whales and dolphins& a myriad of incredible creatures from the smallest shrimp to the largest whale; an incredible journey awaits you in Himalaya Bay Mexico. Im extremely privileged to introduce you to this new world and to ultimately present you with your lifetime certification to SCUBA dive. You are about to undertake an adventure that you will never forget&
Contact Information: If for any reason you need to contact me, you can reach me at the following numbers: (480) 325-9419 (Home), (602) 524-7632 (Cell), (480) 325-9420 (Office).
Class Schedule: The following schedule must be adhered to without deviation. Please do not be late for any of the events listed in the schedule below. Failure to show up at a specific location at a specific time will just delay the entire class and inconvenience the other students. Please be courteous and show up on time or a bit early for each event.
Wednesday
We will be meeting on Wednesday, October 31st at the ASU Dive shop located at 48th street and Baseline Road. The shop phone number is (602) 431-1164. Be at the shop at 5:30PM sharp to be fitted with your gear and prepare your dive bag for the trip. The cost for each diver for this trip will be $125.00 which will be collected Wednesday, cash or checks are acceptable. The purpose of this meeting is for me to fit you with appropriately sized gear& you will not be taking any gear home with you.
Thursday
We will be meeting on Thursday, November 1st at the ASU Dive shop at 6:00 AM sharp. We will be loading all our gear into our vehicles and leaving directly for Mexico from the dive shop. We will caravan together as a group into Mexico. I will be in the lead vehicle (Green Jeep) with a CB radio and the last vehicle in the group will have a portable CB so that the group remains together. The trip to the dive location will take anywhere from 8 to 10 hours, with 9 hours being the norm. We will stop in Nogales to obtain Mexican automobile insurance prior to entering Mexico. Getting through the border checkpoint may take up to 90 minutes so remember to be patient; Ill walk you through the procedure. We will arrive at the dive site (a remote beach in Mexico) with enough sunlight left to setup camp and enjoy the beautiful scenery. It is normal for you to be a bit apprehensive about going into Mexico, Ive done it dozens of times without a problem& the horror stories are just that; stories. As long as you dont do anything stupid like bring in fire-arms or ammunition or any kind of weapons& youll be just fine. We will have a last minute briefing Thursday morning before we leave to cover any questions you may have.
Friday
We will conduct two Discover SCUBA dives on Friday; one in the morning and one in the afternoon. In-between dives, you will be free to explore the area, snorkel (without SCUBA gear), or just relax. There will be numerous briefings and lengthy discussions about the sea life you are going to experience on this dive. This will be your first open water set of dives; it will be normal for you to be a bit nervous& remember to relax and enjoy the incredible world you are experiencing. Discover SCUBA training will occur on Friday morning approximately three hours before the first Discover SCUBA dive.
Refresher courses for already certified divers will take place throughout the day. I will also have some students with me who will be completing their full Open Water Certification so you will be free to hang around and listen to the Open Water class as you wish. For those who wish to four wheel and explore the surrounding areas& you will be free to explore as you wish. I will request however, that I be notified about who is leaving and where you are heading so I can keep track of everyone in case there is a problem.
Saturday
Just like Friday, we will be conducting two dives on Saturday (one in the morning and one in the afternoon). Depending on how much air supply remains in your tanks& we may need to run to San Carlos to refill our tanks. You will need to pay the fee for refilling your tank should you decide to want to take additional dives.
Sunday
On Sunday, we will be packing up our gear and getting ready to return to Arizona. If enough students are interested, we may take a run into San Carlos to get more tanks filled and let everyone have some free time on Sunday morning to explore the bay area. We will leave the Bay around noon, and should be back in Phoenix by 9:00pm or so. Students who wish to leave early may do so at any time they wish on Sunday so that they arrive back in Phoenix earlier than 9:00pm.
Monday
Relax and enjoy the wonderful memories. Oh yes& clean your dive gear today and dont forget to hang it up to dry because you need to turn it in tomorrow.
Tuesday
Gear is to be turned into ASU Divers Dive shop by 5:30pm on Tuesday. It is your responsibility to maintain and return the dive gear in the same condition in which you rented it. I expect the dive gear to be completely cleaned and rinsed with no gravel, sand and dirt in any gear. Please treat this gear as if it were your own because if it is damaged or dirty; youll be charged a replacement or cleaning fee. The cleaning fee is $10.00 per item and the replacement fee is whatever the shops cost is on the gear lost or damaged. Dont forget to clean and rinse the inside of your BC and the inside and outside of the gear bags. If you forget to turn in the gear on Tuesday, you will be assessed a $40.00 per day rental fee for the gear.
Here is What you will need for this trip.
DONT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BRING ANY FIREARM OR WEAPON INTO MEXICO. THIS INCLUDES LARGE KNIVES, SPEARGUNS, FLAREGUNS, OR ANY TYPE OF AMMUNITION. IF YOU DO, YOU WILL BE ARRESTED AND PUT INTO A MEXICAN PRISON. MEXICAN PRISONS ARE NOT NICE PLACES TO BE, AND THEY DONT GIVE A DAMN IF YOU ACCIDENTLY BROUGHT THAT ONE LITTLE 22 CALIBRE ROUND INTO THE COUNTRY BECAUSE IT WAS UNDER THE REAR FLOORMAT. GET IT? 13. Cash for Toll Roads and Gas. Id take about $200 per vehicle.
14. If you want to take a pet, make sure you have the animal licensed, and copies of vaccination records and license information& otherwise they take your pet and make carnita tacos out of them.
15. Sun Screen

Directions and Maps
We will be following Interstate 10 South to Nogales, Arizona. Follow the signs to the International Truck Route once you reach the outskirts of Nogales. Exit on Mariposa Road and go right. On the right hand side of the road (half a mile or so from the exit) you will see a Carls Junior and a Shell station. This is a good time to gas up and grab a bite to eat before we enter Mexico. At the light after the Shell station, take a right and go up the hill to the Mexican Insurance Office (you cant miss it& it has the BIG white Horse on the top of the building). After getting Mexican insurance, go back to Mariposa road and turn right and head for the border (no& not Taco Bell). After stopping at customs (some vehicles will be checked, dont worry&unless of course you were STUPID and brought in some ammunition or guns.
After stopping at customs, we will continue straight on the main road until we get to the main checkpoint. Youll recognize the main checkpoint because there will be a large sign and dirty parking lot on the right hand side of the road which has signs in English and Spanish giving directions on how to get through the checkpoint and get your vehicle registered. The checkpoint is quite a ways into Mexico, and youll probably think you missed it, but hang in there, you didnt miss it (unless youve gone 15 miles), its on the right hand side of the road& keep looking. Once at the checkpoint, you will need all of your identification paperwork and drivers will need all of the vehicle information including copies. The process goes something like this (yes, it changes at the whims of the Mexican Authorities): Stand in line to get your visa& go get a copy of your visa once it is issued, go to the Sonoran Only building and wait in line with your visa, copy of visa, registration, title and all copies. Get your Sonoran only sticker for your vehicle, put it in the lower right hand side of your windshield (inside), drive through the checkpoint. When the officers say where are you going and what are you doing, you say:
Boo-Say-Oh
San Carlos
(Translation: I am a Stupid American and I dont speak your language& please dont put me in a Mexican Prison)
Boo-say-oh means SCUBA diving and San Carlos is the closest big city which the checkpoint guards will know. Do NOT say Himalaya Bay or SCUBA Class& Just SCUBA Diving in San Carlos. Keep it simple& and throw in a Coke or two or eight to the guards& they love it, and it cuts down the hassle by 50%.
After clearing the checkpoint, you will follow the 15 South referencing signs to San Carlos and Guaymas. Once you get into Hermosillo, you will be taking a left at the first light into town. Follow this tiny little road which winds through a small barrio, making you think that you are incredibly lost and will soon be pulled over by a Mexican Federalle and put into a
Mexican Prison
Fear not though& you are not lost& follow this road until you get to a sign that references San Carlos and Guaymas; make a left turn here. From here, you will follow the map attached. Reset your trip odometer just after making the left turn& the Pemex station you will be looking for is 52 miles after making this left turn.
If this incredibly convoluted set of instructions confuses you& dont worry& it will all make sense to you when you do it a few times& These instructions will only be used by those lost little sheep who stray away from the comfort of our little caravan& my advice? Dont stray.
(By the way& all my comments about Mexican Prisons are in jest& they really arent all that bad if you enjoy living in abject poverty and never seeing your family again. On the serious side though; dont bring weapons, ammunition or drugs into Mexico. I havent lost a student yet, and I dont intend for you to be the first.)
Cheers my wonderful student& you are about to have the time of your life& I promise

The incredible beauty of a secluded beach located deep in the heart of Mexico combined with SCUBA and offroad adventures unparalleled anywhere. The adventure begins with a 9 hour treck deep into the heart of Sonora Mexico.
Along the way we will see the real Mexico... which is NOTHING like the border towns known to many Americans.
Upon arrival to the camping site on the beach ( and located 75 miles from any city), you will be treated to an incredible oceanside view of a beautiful bay that is relitively untouched by civilization.
Trail Ratings vary from 2.0 to 5.0.
In addition to the adventures happening above the water... there will be many adventures below the water for those of you who are interested.

Subject: AZVJC Himalaya Bay Discover SCUBA Trip... November 1st through the 4th.
Hello Everyone,
It's time for the third Bi-annual AZVJC Himalaya Bay Mexico Adventure... We had such a great time last time, I'm leading this trip twice a year instead of just once. There will be some diving and Jeeping and laying around on the beach (and yes; there is plenty of Mexican Beer around)... I have enclosed a complete trip description of the trip. I will be teaching a Free (you pay for your gear rental through a local dive shop) Discover SCUBA class for those of you who are not certified so that you can dive. For those of you interested in being certified... I'll also be teaching a certification class this trip.
Here are the directions that I give to students which will give you an idea about the trip. This trip isn't just for divers though... there are lots of great beach and mountain trails and the camping on the beach is incredible.
Corn Fish anyone??? hahahahahahahahahahaha.... (Private joke for those who went last time).
I posted the trip on our web page... if you are interested, sign up. I'll be sending a more complete information package to those who sign up. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me.

The cost for each diver for this trip will be $125.00 which will be collected in advance of the trip, cash or checks are acceptable.
However, it cam with no instructions. I've never done this before and

replaced them for a very reasonable price and then as an added bonus fabbed
up some way cool 1/4" skids for the new brackets and replaced my stock

(which was way less than 4 wheelers).

Hi,
I have a small favor to ask.
I have given them your name and address anyway in
anticipation that you won't mind.
There's a picture at the end to help identification if they turn up. They may
bring the green Mercedes or the white one - sometimes they use both.

yes, at times the ESA goes to far, but at other times it doesnt go far
enough. there are already to many species (to many being more than one) on
the endangered species list. while the ESA does need some work, the idea
behind it is a good one. since the the extinction of the dinasours, we
are currently experiencing the most rapid extinction of plants and animals
ever. and the sad part is humans have been to blame for much of this
tragedy. over the last century it is estimated that a third, yes a third,
of mother nature has disappeared. this is a third we will never be able to
get back. while some people think this insane amount of extinction is
happening in poor third world countries, it is also happening in our own
back yard, the US. true, the farmer might loose some land because of an
endangered species, but what about the endangered species that can't stand
up to the farmer? who will defend them? thats where the ESA comes into
play. the things we do today effect what will be around tommorrow for our
children and our children's children. hopefully they will be able to enjoy
what is left of mother nature. there is no more important battle than that
to save the planet.
but thats just my 2 cents

Ok, first for all those stuck with the Quadracrap Tcase, has anyone found a
decent way to eliminate the vacuum diaphragm in favor of a cable or lever or
solenoid?
Another problem is trans related. Upon cold startup my grand will not shift
from park to reverse or drive. The lever moves and is firm but the trans
does not engage as it should. The level is good, fluid is not burnt and all
linkage is properly set.
After revving the engine momentarily the trans will engage as it should and
then it will have not happen again until it is started cold.
I am not a auto trans guy and want to know if anyone has encountered this
before.

Someone told me that lever on my jeep's floorboard means it has 4WD so I'm gonna go try it.
Upper Terminator can best be described as:
Rocks, waterfalls, off-camber spots and more rocks! Big Rocks.
Whereas there are several by-passes, even the by-passes have taken it's toll on sheet medal and paint.
This trail definitely requires full hard lockers in front and rear, lots of clearance, aggressive tires 33" or larger and an experienced driver.

Hi,
I have a small favor to ask.
I have given them your name and address anyway in
anticipation that you won't mind.
There's a picture at the end to help identification if they turn up. They may
bring the green Mercedes or the white one - sometimes they use both.

My wifes ZJ did the same thing until I replaced the radiator and the trans
cooler lines...guess MOPAR had a problem with the tanks collapsing in the
radiator which inturn caused the lines to collapse shut and therefore not
flowing fluid to the trans...I was told this will DESTROY your trans and it
is a VERY well known problem. I put a new Mopar radiator and lines in the ZJ
and with coolant and fluid It cost right around 450.....Good luck!!!!

Brian,
What my be happening is when sitting the fluid in the torque converter is
draining out of the converter and it can take a few minutes for the fluid to
pumped back into the converter.

GET IT? COMPRENDE?
NO EXCUSES!
IF YOU ARE A HUNTER; GO OVER YOUR VEHICLE WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB TO MAKE SURE NOTHING, AND I MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING REMAINS WHICH WILL CAUSE ME TO HAVE TO COME VISIT YOU IN A MEXICAN PRISON.
(Think this is overkill? Spend a night in a Mexican Prison and you wont)
Make sure you have the following items packed and with you at all times on this trip.
1. Your SCUBA gear including tanks and weight belts.
2. Food enough to last you for 4 days.
3. Camping gear including a stove if you wish to cook your food. Bring charcoal and a grill if you like to barbecue. Dont forget items like pillows, chairs, flashlights, mess kit with plates, utensils, and cups, toilet paper (yup! No bathrooms here& I said REMOTE), bathing suit, towel, changes of clothes and ANY item you need to make yourself comfortable for 4 days of camping. If in doubt, TAKE IT!!!!!
4. Identification: Drivers license or passport.
5. Proof of US citizenship: Passport, birth certificate, voter registration card.
6. Drivers only: Original and TWO copies of both the vehicles title.
7. Drivers only: Original and TWO copies of both the vehicles registration.
8. Drivers only: Two copies of your drivers license.
9. Drivers only: A major credit card in the same name as vehicle registration and title.
10. Drivers only: Mexican Insurance.
11. Drivers only: If you drive a LEASED VEHICLE you need written permission from the leasing agency to take it into Mexico. Bring 2 copies of this permission slip
12. Drivers only: If you are driving someone elses vehicle into Mexico, you need written, notarized permission from the owner to take it into Mexico. Bring 2 copies of this permission slip.
13. Cash for Toll Roads and Gas. Id take about $200 per vehicle.
14. If you want to take a pet, make sure you have the animal licensed, and copies of vaccination records and license information& otherwise they take your pet and make carnita tacos out of them.
15. Sun Screen
16. Plenty of Water (or Beer or Gatorade Saltwater gets old after drinking it for a day or so)
Directions and Maps
Joe West

Subject: install of ne tranny pan
I just got a new mopar deep tranny pan for my auto TJ from kilby.
However, it cam with no instructions. I've never done this before and
am not sure what all it involves. It looks like I will have to remove
the skid plate but I cant tell for sure until I get underneath the
jeep. Has anyone out there ever installed one of these before who can
give me some guidance? I'm just unsure as to whether this is a job I
can do myself.
