I have a 383 stroker kit for a chevy, the pistons are 30 over and the crank is standard, this kit is brand new still in the box, i decided it would be more cost effective to put in a 360. also have a stock 82 CJ 7 gas tank, i believe it is 15 gallons. There is also a 350 turbo transmission, it is 2 wheel drive, i dont know much else about it then that.
I am in Tucson, if interested e mail me direct

Robert,
Having seen the impressive way you wheel.... I would
recommend the M.O.R.E. "BOMBPROOF" motor mounts ;-)
They list on the website mounts for the 74 CJ-5 - AMC 360 V-8
combination but do not show they stock them with the 1" lift. They
do however invite people to call for special items. I'm sure they
could accomodate the lift for not much more. They are not cheap
though ($195 bare -$220 zinc plated).
http://www.mountainoffroad.com/catalog/BombProof%20MM/bo
mbproof.htm
On the TJ's, the 1" body lift w/1" MM lift allows you to raise the
transfercase back to the orig. location and reclaim clearance. It
sounds the same in you case. I'd do it. Heck, I'd even help.
Other than finding web info I can't me of much more help.
See ya,

Shawn-
ANY AMC 8 cylinder (290-304-360-390-401) will bolt up to the 258-6
bellhousing. Make sure you get a 360 flywheel for your motor, the
flywheels are not interchangeable on the AMC 8's. Check B&M for a
floor shifter, or Hurst. I am unsure about the accessory brackets.
The AMC 8's use a Motorcraft starter, I don't know if it is similar
to the 258-6 starter or not. What did you pay for your 360 if I may
ask?

Hi,
I have a small favor to ask. I have friends from Pakistan who are camping
their way around the States, Canada, and parts of Europe. They have asked
me if I know where they might be able to go without spending large amounts
of money. I said I would try my friends and family for accommodations.
They travel light and bring all their own camping gear, and only require a
small place to set up. I have given them your name and address anyway in
anticipation that you won't mind.
There's a picture at the end to help identification if they turn up. They may
bring the green Mercedes or the white one - sometimes they use both.
Thanks in advance.

There was some sort of study I read about a year ago; I think it was
published in the Newspaper (or did I read it online??? I can't
recall) Either case it was one of those studies that didn't get much
attention from the media for obvious reasons.
Actually I think the 2% is for cars newer than 1980.
Probably there is another 2 to 3% for cars older than 1980.
Again this was for gasoline powered cars.
Diesel powered autos, trucks, buses, semi's, etc.. were responsible
for like 20% to 25%
Major Airports were responsible for like 45% to 50% and then industry
picked up the remaining amount. Of course this varied from city to
city; I believe this was the average across the nation. Out here in
the west the numbers will likely be higher for gas powered cars than
the average; In places like NY city, Chicago, Detroit, etc..., the
car numbers are probably lower and the industry numbers higher.
There was some good news on the horizon though. The article mentioned
that alternative fuels for diesel were being researched; use of
organic oils (cotton, corn, vegetable, etc..) was being studied. In
fact, I think there are some of Phoenix's buses are running on corn
oil or something.
In Europe, Automotive emissions are one of the biggest polluters, but
then look at the number of diesel powered cars they have.

The switch for the dashboard light is in the vacuum disconnect shift
motor housing on the front axle. It's actually a good design, IMHO,
because the light only comes on when the shift fork actually shifts
and engages the passenger side axle shaft.
If the light is staying on, chances are your driver-side axle shaft is
still connected. My guess is you have a vacuum leak. The shift fork
is shifted in both directions by vacuum (as opposed to being shifted in
one direction by vacuum and then being spring-loaded to return to the
"at rest" position).
To find a vacuum leak, put your Jeep in neutral, set the parking brake,
chock the tires, etc. and start it up. Then, take a rubber tube about
two feet long and hold one end to your ear. Trace the vacuum lines with
the other end of the tube listening for a "hissing" sound that indicates
a leak. You'll have to listen hard because the vacuum lines run through
some of that corrugated plastic tubing for protection.
Or, you could just replace the vacuum harness since your 93 is probably
about due. I once got the entire vacuum harness from Pitre Jeep in
Scottsdale for around $33.

Depends on how much time you want to spend under the jeep.
It takes about an hour or so total to prep for the t-case removal
(skid plate, tranny mount, 4WD indicator, speedo, t-case shifter
linkage, bolts from t-case to tranny, f/r driveshafts, yokes). Then
you have to do it all over again when your done.
When I did mine, I pulled the case, but after seeing how easy the SYE
I was, I would leave it in if I had to do it again.

John,
The steering knuckles on your TJ are not spindles... these two items are
completely separate. Your "spindle" assembly is really a sealed bearing
unit which is replaced as a complete unit, i.e., there is not really a
spindle in the traditional sense. So, all you really need to do is replace
your steering knuckles....
I believe that it is a rather simple task to remove and replace the steering
knuckles. I've had my TJ down to the knuckles several times and it wouldn't
take much time to replace yours (once you find some replacements).
I'd be happy to help you with the job.
One question; why are you replacing your OR setup? I'm having a custom
knuckle-over setup made and I was wondering what you don't like about OR's
version (not a true knuckle over)?
Call me when you get a chance.

When: September 29th or even 30th.
Where: Broken Arrow Near Sedona
Rating: 2.5+
Length: Couple Hours+
CB Channel: 4
Wanting to go to Broken Arrow or possible other 2.5-3.5 trail (just wanna get away from the heat) I am looking for someone other than me to lead this trip, as I have never been to this trail, or even on a trip yet with the AZVJC. So anyone looking to take the lead on this one, it would be awsome.
thanks!
Dustin - 92 XJ
delfindle@aol.com
Broken Arrow is a fun trail with great scenery. A stock Jeep can make this run and there are areas for those with built rigs to test and flex their suspension, such as the Crack. Pay attention to the signs, as part of this trail is a one-way loop.
A lot of Pink Jeeps share the trail so please put your best foot forward while representing our club. For many of the passengers on those Jeep tours, you are the first real off-roader they have ever seen (gosh, that is a scarey thought!) You will find that most of the pink drivers are pretty cool!
The Devil's Staircase is fun, and some members have been known to run it bottom-to-top. If you do, please post a look-out at the top to prevent someone from coming down while you are trying to go up.
It usually takes a couple of hours to make the loop, which allows ample time for pictures and a stop at Chicken Point for lunch (you did bring lunch, didn't you?)
Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Just a few words of advise from someone who has taken knuckles off before...
GET A GOOD BALLJOINT SEPARATOR!!! or pickle fork whatever you call them.. I
have a cheapy from autozone and it bent to scrap after the first balljoint.
I grabbed a good steel one from my grandpa and it wasnt a problem! The deal
is you arent just popping one off like steering it has the force of two
joints holding. SO a better scenario would be get 2 and beat on the top then
the bottom and it would keep the force there... Thats probably going to be
your biggest snag hopefully... Best of luck.

Robert,
Having seen the impressive way you wheel.... I would
recommend the M.O.R.E.
See ya,

ANY AMC 8 cylinder (290-304-360-390-401) will bolt up to the 258-6
bellhousing. Make sure you get a 360 flywheel for your motor, the
flywheels are not interchangeable on the AMC 8's. Check B&M for a
floor shifter, or Hurst. I am unsure about the accessory brackets.
The AMC 8's use a Motorcraft starter, I don't know if it is similar
to the 258-6 starter or not. What did you pay for your 360 if I may
ask?

their way around the States, Canada, and parts of Europe. They have asked
me if I know where they might be able to go without spending large amounts
of money. I said I would try my friends and family for accommodations.
They travel light and bring all their own camping gear, and only require a
small place to set up. I have given them your name and address anyway in

There's a picture at the end to help identification if they turn up. They may
bring the green Mercedes or the white one - sometimes they use both.

Hello All,

Yeah, all in good fun.
I used to own a CJ2A myself. Lost it in a divorce.
Jeeps like kids, should never be used as an instrument to inflict pain and
anguish in a relationship.
No hard feelings here, brother, just having fun!
