Scott,
I am not in the same Choir as you. You should do what it takes to pass
and keep the vehicle that way. The air is bad enough in the city without
people like that contributing. You should feel lucky Maricopa is as
lenient as they are. There are other states and counties that are more
strict on vehicle inspection.
So having said that... Finding a reputable mechanic that knows what
they're doin', and one you trust is the right way to go. Specially if
you don't know what you are doin' under the hood of your vehicle.
IMO if someone modified a Jeep or Scout II and it does not pass
emissions test it wasn't done right.

And usually a good mechanic can make the adjustments and have the equipment
to ensure you'll pass. It's a good peace of mind to have going to the
testing station. Usually the cost of a mechanic doing this is around or
under $100 (provided that it's a respectable mechanic). Last year when my
wagoneer didn't pass, someone here recommended a good mechanic that I've had
good luck with. I can't remember the name, maybe someone here can help me,
but I want to say B and B auto, it's near 19th ave and mcdowell. But after
screwing up the waggy myself and pouring stuff in the gas tank and failing
two tests, it was well worth the cost to have someone look at it.

Alcohol and Drugs
The operation of an off-highway vehicle requires skill and good judgement. Drugs and alcohol impair both. You become a danger to yourself and others when you operate your OHV and take drugs or drink alcohol. Laws regarding DUI apply everywhere in the state, even if you are on a backcountry trail. And, the penalties are the same, including jail and the loss of your driver's license.
Sorry, but I think the law of the land is the finall word on all arguments.

Subject: Re: ANOTHER emissions test questions
I agree on this one but what if you do pass and everything is functional and
working properly and still fail???
Happened to me 3 times different times at different testing stations then
went to the waiver place and passed... You tell me how that is.I also didnt
say thats how I was with the patch it and take it off thing. GRANTED I do
have an EGR valve blued to a non EGR intake :) Those dumbasses dont know any
better and see it there so its ok... Despite the 1/4" air gap on the back
side... Tell me what possible function does an EGR valve have besides
hindering performance??? I am not going to start a flame thread here just
discussing... Also this is jeep related since we all have to deal with these
crooks...

Lachlan,
Did *you* (read Scott's post)??
Maybe he wasn't, "condoning 'sneaking' through an emissions check, or
advocating mods", but it reads pretty close.
"You told them it was an 84??? I would have played as dumb as possible
as long as possible."
"If all else fails with the jerk offs you have to deal w/ local go to
40th street and greenway I assure you they dont have a clue."

PS. I think Scotts issue is more to the personnel then to the testing
procedure or equipment. Except about the relevancy of an EGR valve.
Scott correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry to kill the fun but I seem to be WAYYYYY off on most controversial
topics. Like this and the alcohol on the trail thread. SOOOO I decided I am
crawling under a rock and hiding from these kinds of threads. I am never
right and doesnt do me any good sounding like a ****y fool and making people
dislike my opinions and myself before I ever even meet anyone... I dont
sneak through emissions and the testing center at 40th street and greenway
happens to be the closest one to my house and I personally have had fairly
good luck there... Best of luck to all of you in the future getting through
the emissions regime!

Scott,
I am not in the same Choir as you.
