A few of us decided to celebrate one of the hottest days of the year by going to Willow Springs this morning and doing some wheeling. Me, DesertRat, Zeliman, Dan Sherman, and Kyle all met at 0530 hrs and headed for the trail.
We started down the trail and came upon the usual boulder that always makes for a great photo op.
Here's Zeliman (Help what am I supposed to do here!)

Kyle and his awesome Rubi

Here's DesertRat

We then continued down the trail and slowly crawled through the rock garden.
Here's Zeliman negotiating over a couple good sized rocks.

Here I am with a little air time.

We then decided to do a little crack. Not the illegal kind!
Here's Dan coming down hugging that wall.

This was Zeliman's first run on this trail and commented that he had never seen an obstacle like this at the mall.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6424&stc=1&d=1153002074
We even convinced DesertRat to give it try. He did Great!

After doing a little crack we continued on down the trail.
Here's kyle negotiating through a little tricky spot. Nothing his Mighty Rubicon couldn't handle.

Here I come down an obstacle. I thought I had the right line, but....

More to come!

WHOOPS! Yeah I wasn't far enough to the left and fell into the hole. I really thought I was going over and kept my arms and legs in and had actually accepted the idea that this was it and I was going to roll. The Jeep gods were watching over me today and decided it wasn't my time.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6428&stc=1&d=1153003746
After my moment of silence with the Jeep Gods, I screamed like a little girl in a haunted house, "HELP." Everybody who was helping Kyle negotiate through a hairy section just dropped what they were doing and ran to my rescue. Kyle was left to fend for himself. Like a bunch of blood thirsty vultures they preyed upon me with cameras flashing and the usual, "Don't move let me get a picture before you roll!
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6429&stc=1&d=1153003746
As I was hanging on for dear life everybody had their shot at me. Vultures, disgusting Vultures.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6430&stc=1&d=1153003746
Here's another shot.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6431&stc=1&d=1153003746
After Kyle winched me out of that mess, I had another mess to clean up.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6432&stc=1&d=1153003746
Here's Kyle trying to duplicate what I did and couldn't. I guess it was due to his longarms.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6433&stc=1&d=1153003746
However, Kyle decided he wanted to have his oil changed and his tires rotated on the next obstacle. He almost rolled while Mike was rotating the rear tires.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6434&stc=1&d=1153003746
Isn't that a shot! The Vultures again trying to push Kyle over.

We continued on and down into the wash

We decided it was getting too hot and decided to head back just before the rock garden.
Heres DesertRat flexing just before winch city.

This is the part that always gets the guys with 33" tires. Mike kept getting hung up so we winched and strapped his way up this section of the trail. It was HOT!
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6438&stc=1&d=1153005164
Here's a group picture. I think Mike in the background just had enough and was trying to think of a way to convince his wife to get 35" tires and a longarm suspension.:D What a great day of wheeling! Thanks Guys!

Sorry Simon! I thought you sold your Jeep. The whole time on the trail I was thinking about you though. I was praying the Jeep would stay in one peice so I could make it over to your shop next week for the 4:1 conversion.;) :)

Great pics Mike, hope you have washable seat covers! That spot where DesertRat got hung up looks very familiar  and the reason I'll only do that trail again after getting 35's.

This is the second 4 wheelers "shop rag" pic I've seen in the past 10 minutes. I'm begininning to think something fishy is going on here (in a shamless plug sort of way). ;)

Yep! That's the closest I've come to rolling it. I really thought and felt I was going over but somehow it just stopped.
How's is it there in Okinawa? Any more typhoons?

Looks good boys. We ran out there Saturday night and had an equally killer time. The weather had cooled off because of the storm (except down in the canyon). The obsticles are even better at night. That trail is rapidly become one of my favorites for wheeling real close to the city.

Speak for yourself. You just need to get up a little earlier which may be hard for old men like you.:D
