I have a friend that has told me a few times that I need to install a
cooling radiator for my transmission. Does anyone else have one of these on
their Jeeps? What is the benefit of doing this? I have a 97' Tj with a
4.0L and an auto transmission. TIA.

Thanks,

If you take your Crawl Ratio and Divide it by the circumference of
your tire you can find out how many times the crankshaft rotates per
inch travelled.

In your case: 99/(35 x 3.14) = .9 Revolutions Per Inch (RPI)

I think most people's ideal crawl speed is about 1 RPI, although some
extreme crawlers want to get to 2 RPI.

Subject: [TR] Broken Arrow - Saturday, September 29, 2001

Hello All,

Dustin Ewald is leading a Broken Arrow trail run on Saturday, September 29, 2001.

When: September 29th or even 30th.
Where: Broken Arrow Near Sedona
Rating: 2.5+
Length: Couple Hours+
CB Channel: 4

Wanting to go to Broken Arrow or possible other 2.5-3.5 trail (just wanna get away from the heat) I am looking for someone other than me to lead this trip, as I have never been to this trail, or even on a trip yet with the AZVJC. So anyone looking to take the lead on this one, it would be awsome.
thanks!
Dustin - 92 XJ
delfindle@aol.com

Broken Arrow is a fun trail with great scenery. A stock Jeep can make this run and there are areas for those with built rigs to test and flex their suspension, such as the Crack. Pay attention to the signs, as part of this trail is a one-way loop.

A lot of Pink Jeeps share the trail so please put your best foot forward while representing our club. For many of the passengers on those Jeep tours, you are the first real off-roader they have ever seen (gosh, that is a scarey thought!) You will find that most of the pink drivers are pretty cool!

The Devil's Staircase is fun, and some members have been known to run it bottom-to-top. If you do, please post a look-out at the top to prevent someone from coming down while you are trying to go up.

It usually takes a couple of hours to make the loop, which allows ample time for pictures and a stop at Chicken Point for lunch (you did bring lunch, didn't you?)

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Tom,

That tranny swap is sounding sweeter.

A 700R4 swap would be (2*3.06*4*4.56)= 111.6:1

An NV4500 swap would be (5.61*4*4.56)= 102.32

I'm currently at (3.88*4*4.56)= 70.7:1

Stock was (3.88*2.72*3.73)= 39.3:1

The NV4500 is a much easier swap to do and has the braking advantage.

More to think about....

Scott,
Damon is correct and here is my backup details. Since
my '94 ZJ has a 2.71:1 O/I on 1st gear, hence, the CR
= 2*2.71*4*4.56 = 99:1, thanks to an automatic torque
convert. Please note that this formula is independent
on the tire size although as you know, it is somewhat
a function of it (e.g., bigger tires will crawl a
little faster than the smaller tires).
