Ending up having to shorten the shift fork about 1/8" in order to get
it to shift properly. Teraflex staples a separate piece of paper to
the instructions stating that you may have to modify the shift fork
1/8" on 2001 models. Thats great, except that don't tell you what to
do. Although it was pretty obvious what needed to be done, I think
they could be a bit more descriptive and state that it could apply to
other years (it did in my case). I'll call them tomorrow and tell
them.

But finally got in and the jeep moving. Works good, but lots of
noise in 2nd and up in 4LO; I've heard that is normal though.

My son and I were on our way up to Globe this morning to play golf at
Apache Stronghold and passed the group getting ready to leave FJ
Texaco for the Coke Ovens. Looked like a great turnout! I was so
busy looking for Jeeps I know that I forgot to wave. So here's your
wave. I was in the red TJ with no doors, going like a bat out of !

Hi Chris;

That would be us. You must be the YJ I honked at as we turned the corner. We
spent the weekend up there and were just starting to head back to Chandler.
We saw another AZVJC Jeep up there this weekend, but it was a glance as we
drove by. You sure have a pretty corner of Arizona up there. We need to do
some trail runs up in your area!

Dan,

Glad to hear you got it working. It takes a while to get the gears broken
in. Once you do, they will quiet down some. 1st and 2nd gear is pretty
quiet on mine. You start to notice the whine when you get to 3rd (or high
RPMs in 2nd).

Chris, to the best of my knowledge the SSRs
are only offered in 35 and 37. Don't know
what kind of trails you run and how many
street miles you drive, but I'd think long
and hard about the SX over the SSR,
particularly if you like rocks.

I will soon have some pics up in my gallery for everyone who went on
the trip today to view! Hopefully there will be lots of them. I spent
tonight scrubbing out the inside of my TJ getting all that mud out of
there from my dog Rockie! I had to hose her down as soon as we got
home cause she was STINKING really bad! For those of you that didnt
go down through Box canyon... you should of! It toped the trip off
really well. Myself and my spotter and my dog had a great time today
and we all plan on going back out very soon again with you all.

Maybe Scott will put in a trip post about todays trip... :)

Thanks,

You will have to move the spring mounts outboard on the frame an inch
and a half on each side.Your springs will be tweaked bad and look real
funny if you dont.I live in east mesa if you want to take a look at
how i did mine.

It is normal. It is chain driven and with the low gears you tend to get a
serious whine at higher revs in anything but 1st. TeraFlex also cautions
against running your Jeep in higher gears in 4low for very long due to the
excessive speed. It sounds bad enough so that isn't a problem. I just found
that I have a real gap between 1st Hi and 1st Lo. With 3.73 gearing and
35's I am geared too high for slow trails in 1st Lo and too low for 1st Lo
much of the time. I am going to 4.56 this week to give myself a better 1st
Hi ratio (and of course - much better true crawl).

Subject: BOX CANYON mishap

For all those asking what happened in box canyon this weekend here it
is... It is was a pretty good trip, I got pretty stuck at the end,
and it took a little while to get out, so we were cruising out a
little fast. We hit the T towards the end and stopped. Blair headed
out first, then Scott. I was connecting my swaybar and was almost
done so I told scott to go ahead, and I would catch up. He said just
follow the road. Well the last link gave me a little hassle so I
ended up leaving a couple minutes behind scott as opposed to "right
behind him" like I thought I would be. So I headed out to catch up. I
ended up losing the road going through one of the washes, so I tried
to call him on the hendheld CB. I couldn't get anyone so I headed
back up the trail to the T to wait for him. I saw the cactus that had
the directions marked on it for 60 so I decided to head out that way.
I got out to 60 and then went to the texaco at the junction for a
while, and then headed back. When I got back I e-mailed Scott to let
him know I was okay, and just got a little mixed up. So that is what
happened. There were only 3 Jeeps out there, and it wasn't in box
canyon that it all happened, it was on the way out. -Rob

One of the 4 bolts that hold the rear driveshaft(actually the straps
over the u-joint) broke off on me Saturday. Kinda makes you sick to
hear your brand new CV driveshaft banging against the floor of the
jeep going down the freeway. I pulled the driveshaft (thanks for
coming with the tools Dan) & got the jeep home in front wheel drive.

I haven't had time to mess with it yet but if its too much of a pain
to get the broken part of the bolt out I'll most likely just get a
new yoke to put on.

Here's the question: If I replace the yoke on the rear end can it
mess up my pinion setting?

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by 3" wider. If you are talking about center hole to
center hole then cut the drivers side pad off and move it. I did the same
conversion on my 82CJ with the 44 from a 74 waggy. There are many other
things you will have to do to make this work. The passenger side axel will
be the same length as a wide track CJ but the drivers side will be 4" tool
long and you will need to cut it down. What are you going to do about the
narrow rear with the wide front? If you get a Ford 9" out of an early Bronco
the width is close to a CJ wide track.
