Hello All,
Scott Grigsby is leading a Coke Ovens trail run on Monday, September 3, 2001.
When: Monday. Labor Day
Where: meet at the Texaco at Florance Juct. At 7:30 AM
Rating: 2.5+
Length: better part of the day
CB Channel: 4
We go in the back way off battle axe road between Superior and Kearny. Lots of good Scenery to look at. We will come out in near Martinez Canyon.
The Coke Ovens Trail is an all day trip. It covers a lot of different countryside, traveling over and around the rolling hills and traverse some rocks and ledges in the road.
Years ago the Coke Ovens were built to support some of the smelters at the nearby mines. It's a fairly common misconception that they made coke, which is made from coal. However, they were built to make charcoal from the then more plentiful mesquite of the Gila Valley.
Over the years they have been closed to the public numerous times and several have been used as "housing" for the hermits of the hills. At one point (so the story goes) an owner attempted to convert them into a type of tourist resort - and started to make rooms out of them. You can still see the lofts he installed in some of them. This project was never finished.
At this time we are able to see and explore these amazing creations. They are located on the side of a hill along the Gila River and are quite spectacular.
Across the Gila is the old town site of Chochran. If the water is low, there is a river crossing to the west of Chochran that can be taken for an exit out to the Florence-Kelvin Highway
This trail is definitely a favorite for all levels of 4-wheelers. Stock vehicles shouldn't have any problems although clearance is highly recommended. There are several areas of "rock stair steps" that will be a challenge to the novice or stock driver.

Subject: Spring Sag Question?
Hello all,
After a closer look at my 90YJ I noticed my spring plates (where the U bolts go through) are at different angles. The left side is almost parallel to the ground and the right side is about 30 degrees up. Has anyone ever seen this? The only thing I can think of is the axle tube rotated in the housing. Could this happen? Any insight would be appreciated.

Subject: [az_vjc] I need some advice
Hello, this goes out to anybody that can give me some advice. I have
a 98TJ with a 3inch Superlift. I have a set of four and half in
Reubicon springs that I would like to put on my Jeep. I was just
wondering if I needed to change anything else on my Jeep such as
control arms, shocks ect...to make it work. Thanks Anthony

Thanks David for leadin' the trail. The weather was very cooperative
today. Just the right amount of overcast. This was my son's first trip
with me on the rocks. John and his dinosaurs had a blast. Thanks Theresa
for helpin' out. As always it is a pleasure to wheel with some familiar
faces and well as meet some new ones. Hope to see you all on the trail
again.
Wish I took more pictures.

Describe the noise. If it is squeaking or creaking or any combination

Hi guys does anyone have an extra laying around? I am planning on
doing a super 35 kit in the next month or so but need to get my Jeep
back on the road to get to work. The horrible noise I have been
hearing has been the pass side axle bearings munching away on the
axle. I will be glad to buy or just borrow one for a little while.
Thanks
