Subject: [LU] Kartchner Caverns in DANGER - Please HELP!

For those of you who have been to Kartchner Caverns south of Benson, skip to the next paragraph.
If not, please believe me (and people who may have told you about the caverns) that Kartchner is a rare pristine “LIVE” cavern. A cavern unlike most you will ever have an opportunity to visit. I’ve traveled all over the world and have enjoyed visiting caverns everywhere. Kartchner takes a back seat to nobody. The formations are incredible. The environmental protection and ergonomic design in order to open Kartchner to us, the public, was planned and executed with surgical grace. DO NOT MISS THIS WONDER!

Kartchner is being threatened by the potential development of a resort. A “what”, you say? That’s right, a r-e-s-o-r-t that hopes to build on land adjacent to Kartchner. The ecological balance of cave and cavern formations is an unbelievable fine balance of soils and water. Anything unnatural can destroy that balance and turn this “LIVE” cavern into a “DEAD” one-dimensional postcard future generations will miss.

Probably a dumb question but here goes.

Does anybody have a driveshaft from an 80's CJ7 that they do not want,
Or stock YJ Springs? If so let me know.

Scott,

I guess I did not clarify myself properly in my last post. Sorry if it didn't come out right.

Yes, I am going to Moab to wheel during the week of Oct. 7th.
No, I am not going to Moab because of the XJ get together....I'm not a member of NAXJA.
Yes, I will certainly be more than happy to run with Keith & friends, as you and I did discuss.

When someone says there is an "event" happening in Moab and are you going to the event, I would say that yes I am if I was in fact involved with the event....ie., when JU had their 2001 run in April, I was very much involved with that one. So, when the NAXJA is having an event in Moab, I responded no, I am not going to Moab because of that.

Does this make any more sense?

Stu,

I thought I mentioned that Keith invited us to go on a few runs with the XJ's. I was planning on the 3 TJ's (Stu & Donna, Joe & Joyce, Theresa & myself) doing at least a couple runs with them and then a few ourselves.

Keith,

We all run 35's, locked, and 4:1 tcases. Please let us know which runs you'd be taking us on.

Thanks.

Would something like that be possible on azvjc.org?

Nick,

It sounds like you'll need to replace the wheel stud. This isn't very hard to do. What is hard to do is getting the wheel off with the old spun stud place. You'll have to try to get that stud cut off or broken off so you can remove the wheel to replace the stud. Once you have the wheel off its pretty easy to remove everything so you can press a replacement stud in.

Hello All,

Matt Wazny is leading a Broken Arrow trail run on Saturday, September 1, 2001.

When: 10:00-11:00
Where: Trail head, never done the trail before, but I am hard to miss in a 2000 WJ on 32" MTRs.
Rating: 2.5+
Length: 2-3 hours
CB Channel: 10

Taking the Girlfriend on a wheeling trip with good scenery. Anybody is welcome.

Broken Arrow is a fun trail with great scenery. A stock Jeep can make this run and there are areas for those with built rigs to test and flex their suspension, such as the Crack. Pay attention to the signs, as part of this trail is a one-way loop.

A lot of Pink Jeeps share the trail so please put your best foot forward while representing our club. For many of the passengers on those Jeep tours, you are the first real off-roader they have ever seen (gosh, that is a scarey thought!) You will find that most of the pink drivers are pretty cool!

The Devil's Staircase is fun, and some members have been known to run it bottom-to-top. If you do, please post a look-out at the top to prevent someone from coming down while you are trying to go up.

It usually takes a couple of hours to make the loop, which allows ample time for pictures and a stop at Chicken Point for lunch (you did bring lunch, didn't you?)

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Very nice spot. If you want to go the LOOONG way there, you can reach it via
trails along the west side of the Verde, and run all the way from Cave
Creek/Carefree to Fossil Creek. Or, just take SR87 to Strawberry, and head
over to the creek from there. Nice hiking in the area. There's a small hydro
plant that's either been de-commissioned of is about to be, that's located
in the canyon. Lots of nice swim holes there...and camping spots, but please
pack out what you pack in. The area has been trashed in the past.
