What you need to bring:
Rock lights:
your choice many people use the $15 one from Wally World. These come pretty much complete. I also reccomend a 12v 30 amp relay per pair of lights. These can be found at Wal Mart also and also Radio Shack and most parts stores. You may also want to pick up some split flex tubing to protect your wires and keep things neat. You can pick up 3/8th in 10 ft lengths for .99 at Home Depot and Lowes in the electrical dept it is also available at most Autoparts stores for more $$
Kill switch:
Your choice of switch. Keep in mind you will want to hide it so size may be an issue. You may also want to bring shop manual Haynes or Chilton for your vehicle. I have the TJs covered.
For both:
If you have drill, soldering iron, etc. please bring them it will make things go much faster.
Post up with questions and if your gonna attend!!!

You mean Nick isn't going to be giving out PIAA lights and wiring harnesses? I've broken 2 of those damned WallyWorld special lights so far and have put countless bulbs in them. If someone has a better/more durable idea for rock lights I would definately be interested.
Don't count on Wal-Mart carrying relays guys. Radio Shack carries them cheaper anyway.

Ill be there.
Idea, not sure of the most common mounting location but has anyone built some sort of light mount bracket using the mounting location of the stock side steps. would be tucked up and somewhat protected by the frame.
Nick, do you sell lights or any of this other stuff at your shop?
see you guys there, Rob

I've been running the wal-mart lights for awhile with out any issue's with the bulbs or the lights themselves. Like in real estate, it's location, location, location! You just have to mount them out of harms way!:)
TJ, check HF, they have some larger lights that are around the same price.

That sucks. If we all could have stayed on track and finished the first without everyone saying they couldnt make it we probably could have gotten 2 or 3 more done and everyone could have found a time to make one of them.

Regarding rock lights...I've had the same set on for about 3 years now. I used the Harbor Freight lights below and bent up some drywall wire to protect them from flying rocks. They're $40 a pair but are often on sale for half price - $20.

what guage wire do you recommend? The wally world lights don't have enough to run the whole way....
also... one 30 amp PER pair? 55w each 12v = 9amps per set is that overkill (see this is why I need to come).

Alright, I got my lights and relays, As for the kill switch i got a two post 25 amp 12volt flip switch. Is this what I want?

Yes that is true. for 55 w lights. some will bring 100 watt lights.
relay ratings should be 1.5 times the max load

A huge thanks to TwwistedTJ and Nick.
I now have a nice kill switch installed, and 4 switches for rock lights. I will get the the lights eventually, but the switches look pretty cool. :)

Yep, thanks Nick for your hospitality and for the great price on the Optima....and the new video. I can't say enough about how cool it is you open your shop up for these get togethers.... and can't forget Jeff spending his Saturday showing the way.
Although I brought my truck so I didn't have anything to wrench on it was fun walking around and watching others work (for a change).

Had a great time with everyone, and also need to thank Jeff for sharing his vast knowledge (sorta) on wiring kill switches. Glad to hear that my steamed beer went to good use, and the pizza was great Nick.

Great idea but wish my previous owner had told me that I had one when I purchased it twenty years ago.
And..I wish you had posted this a couple of weeks ago....maybe it would have sparked my pea brain. (its the way I feel after all this)
I have been working on my jeep for...with lots of help from members...you know who you are and...Thanks.
After repalcing the ICM, Ign switch I still didn't have spark to the coil ...would I think about a kill switch...why...wiring looks stock..yeah right.
I found the little bugger...so well hidden (good job by however did it) it just rusted out. so...after you put on yours and have a great time thinking of a good spot...and if you sell your jeep...and only after you have cash in hand ...PLEASE tell the new owner.

I think TwistedTJ said he would be willing to do 1 or 2 at his place, but would need cooler weather or use of someones shop for more. It was a good time at Nick's shop last month. :D
Just a note to all, from my personal "Stupid Files" make sure you insulate all metal on the switch and wires or you will blow a fuse. :o Then it really won't start.

Hey Jeff, thanks for the invite. First time doing the kill switch thing. Not sure what to bring as far as wiring, switches, heat shrink tubing… I noticed on previous threads that most of the rigs were set up with either a kill switch for the fuel pump or ignition. What about automatic transmissions, where you have to press the brake pedal in order to release the gear shifter?
I’ll be there with my 01 XJ and Fenchy will probably show up with his 98 TJ.
Please let us know what to bring for the BBQ. Don’t worry; I will not bring any frog legs or snails, This time!
BTW, early start is fine but “Lost in Space” might be a little out of my way.:D
