First, is it a wobble or is it a vibration? Do you have a slip yoke
eliminator and CV drive shaft? If not, is your transfer case lowered? That
would account for some vibes. As far as a wobble, caster angle and alignment
would be my first concerns. Since you have a 4.5" lift, I'm assuming it is
an RE kit. If so, if I'm not mistaken and I'm sure that everyone will
correct me if I am ;-), it should have adjustable lower control arms. You
could try lengthening the arms a little and see if that works. If they are
not adjustable, you can buy shims at any Jeep dealer. I replaced my
steering stabilizer when I lifted mine, cost about $35 if I remember
correctly, the cost of a shock and a special tapered bolt that fastens onto
the drag link. Takes approximately about 10 minutes to install. Never
really noticed whether it stopped any wobble on the road though, my problem
was having more to do with the alignment and caster angles. It does get rid
of the bump steer a little though. Hope that helps.

I have a 97 TJ with 4.5 " lift, that at lower speeds and sometimes when I'm
doing about 60 I can feel this vibration on the clutch and gas pedal and
pretty much throughout the whole jeep, My buddy Mike thinks I might need a
new steering stabalizer. Right now I have just the stock one on there. I
don't know if it has anything to do with the amount of lift I have on it, or
what it might be. If I do need a new stabalizer how much do they run and how
hard are they to put on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)
Thanks Kelly

Morning All

I was looking for some input. I have a 95 XJ with a 4.0 automatic, in the last week it started just shutting off while I am driving. Sometimes it comes right back to life other times I need to restart it. Usually does it while driving once in a while it does at idle.

Checked the trouble code got a 11 and a 12 one is that the battery was disconnected in the last 50 key turns (but it was not) the other is no signal from the CPS. Checked the CPS it seems to check fine.

Any other ideas?

Thanks, RAM

I am in need to try out my new rocker guard that I installed over the weekend and my girlfriend has been bugging me to take her out wheeling again. I was thinking of running Box Canyon on saturday night and I was wondering if there was anyone else who was interested. I guess that's the question. Is there anyone who interested in doing a night run through Box Canyon?

Check your wiring. You may have an open wire or more dangerous a shorting wire. Make sure all the fuses are seated good. I suspect the short would be either near the battery or near the computer. Water on the computer connector could cause this fault as well.
At least that is what I would check.

Kelly,

Before you go replacing steering stabilizers, are you certain the problem is
steering related?

From reading your description, it could be a driveshaft vibration problem or
even a tire balance problem. There is nothing in your comments that rules
out any of these potential vibration sources.

However....I think some more info about yoru 4.5" lift would be helpful.
Such as...are you running a CV driveshaft and SYE or a t-case drop kit.
What size tires are you running? When did the lift go on? How long have
you noticed this vibration? Did you have a front end alignment done after
the lift was installed?

I'll probably think of something else to ask, but these will certainly help.

I would definately start thinking driveshaft vibes before steering
stabilizer, especially (but not exclusively) that you can feel it
through the whole jeep.

I got one for you....

Friend has a TJ, with a Full Traction 4 inch lift, new NON-adjustable LCA,
dropped pitman arm, t-case lowered, new adjustable front track bar, and
swaybar QD's. He is running 33x12.50's on a 15x8's.
Here is the problem: when he hits a bump, it makes his steering wheel go
off center, and he hears a whack noise in the front passengers side. This
noise is new since his first track bar from Full Traction broke at the
axle end, and we replaced it with the new one, same brand. Things I can
think of what is causing the noise, loose shock, loose track bar (he says
it is tight), coil turned and is hitting the axle, LCA on that side is not
in the little groove. What else would cause that noise? Also, what would
cause the steering wheel to turn out of center? Here is another thought,
could the hole on the frame side be hollowing out?

Mike,

Sounds like he has some bumpsteer issues. Check and make sure his draglink
is parallel to his trackbar. If there is any difference in this geometry
bumpsteer will occur.

He could also have a damaged tie rod end and/or bent tie rod or draglink.

If there's a noise my first guess is that the trackbar is loose at the axle
end. The bracket down there is really flimsy and sometimes the hole becomes
enlarged making it impossible to get a snug fit. I replaced the torx bolt on
mine with a metric hex head bolt and tack welded a washer over the hole on
the bracket to eliminate slop.

These are just the experiences I've had with mine over the last 2.5 years.
I'm sure others will have more suggestions.

Scott
