Would these work with my 3 inch lift? If so, how much of an
improvement would they be over the stock control arms?

In my opinion the big advantage to the Flowmaster isn't so much how well it
flows but that it's made of like 3/16" steel. It'll take some pretty good
rock hits.

Buy a new high flow muffler.

I picked up a Flo~Pro (FP214) muffler ( http://www.flopro.com ) for
my TJ 4.0 for about $60. Supposedly, they've got higher flow rates
than the Flowmasters, Borlas, etc.

I had to go through U.S. Tire and Exhaust ( http://www.uste.com/ ) to
get it, because I think they're primarily sold in Canada.

I had it installed at Meineke for about $50. I decided not to
increase the exhaust diameter to keep the low end torque. So, I just
had Meineke re-use the stock exhaust pipe. It's a good thing too
because there's not much room back there for a larger diameter pipe.

I've also heard good things about the Flowmasters, I just decided to
go a different route.

I was concerned about what it'd sound like though. I feared that I'd
sound like one of those little rice burners or a Harley or something.
But, I'm pleased with the sound, I actually kind of like it now. Once
I installed it and a Turbo City air-tube (I did that just to make
room for a York), my mileage increased quite a bit. With a 19 gallon
tank, I was only getting about 200 miles after installing my lift.
Now, I get anywhere between 250-270 miles out of a full tank.

For a total cost of about $110, I'm pretty happy with the
performance.

Oh yeah, the muffler is beefy as heck too. I think it's made out of a
1/4" aluminized steel.

If you wanna hear what the Flo~Pro sounds like, check here:

http://plaza.powersurfr.com/RJOTF/index5.html

and scroll down to the middle of the page.

I have the stock exhaust system. Now, I'm not mechanically inclined
at all. In fact, about the only thing that I can do is change my oil,
tires, air filter and wash and wax it. I've got the 6 cylinder 4.0
liter engine and I was looking for someway, if there is a way, to
give it a little more of a "beefy" sound as well as maybe boost the
performance level a little. I had heard that there is not much that
can be done with the engine that I have and I have also had people
talk about putting on a "catback system" and a flowmaster muffler. I
don't have a lot of money to spend, so I was looking for a relatively
inexpensive way to do this if such a way exists. I was looking at
spending maybe $300 give or take.

With 5.88 and if you tires really measure 39" you will be turning 33Krpm at 65 in 4gear with tcase at 1:1.

If you run or ever ran them on your rig, what do you think? Way too low? Will I still be able to go at 55-60 on the HWY?

Tires 39", Tranny T18 with 6.32:1 first gear, tcase 2.47:1 and GM14 bolt / D44 soon to be D60

For those of you who will say its too low, keep your comments off-the-list, unless you think its something useful for the rest of the list.

The 3.9 4cyl Cummins turbo would make a good engine might be a little pricey?

I think the 6.2 that came in chevy/GMC trucks and blazers would work.
It's about the same size as a BB a little heavier you might be able to off
set the weight with a fiberglass front end if that was a concern.
It shares GM parts meaning you should be able to use adapters from A/A and
others, engine frame mounts trans adapters ect...
If you don't have the means for fabing stuff this might work?
You might be able to buy a hole donor truck for the price of a Cummins?

Sounds just like a broken tranny mount. The stock ones are very soft rubber
and will tear in two. I know - I'm on my third mount. Prothane finally came
out w/ a poly mount. Very tough. I'd suggest going with that. You'll get
more engine vibes from it, but it's plenty tough.

To check it, support the tranny at the bell housing (or there abouts) and
drop the skid plate. You'll be able to see if it's the mount.

Ok my .02 if you are going to drive it on the street much it is too low. If it is mainly a trail rig then go for it. I run 4.88:1 and when I had 35s and drove at 65 for more then 30min the engine got hot. Did not over heat but got hot. I am now running 38.5s and the problem is not as bad because I can run 65 at 3krpm. One other thing is that 5.88 on a D44 the pinion gear will be small and not as strong. I know a lot of folks using 5.13s with those size tires why not compromise.

Your buddy (Chris???) with the Suzuki Samurai is running 5.88's in his D44 front and rear. He runs 35's. He said he was at like 4,000 or 4,500 just to run 60 or 65 mph but he wasn't too worried about that since his was the tinie-tiny little 1.3L. I must say, though, with the 5.88's, 3.8:1 tcase, and whatever his manual was, it crawled real nice with 35's and even the 1.3L seemed to have just enough torque for his needs.

Now........if I remember correctly, you are running a 350....right? Might be a different story for you............

Subject: UPDATE: Something Broken?

Picked up a tranny mount on the way home (thanks Dan) so I'd have one
if that was the culprit. I tried the little block of wood on the
tranny test, but you couldn't really tell a difference. So down came
the t-case (so much easier when it is a straight one) and out came
the mount. One of the two rubber pieces was split halfway through,
not totally broken but certainly in need of replacement. While under
there I noticed the rear trackbar mount didn't look normal, oh well
check it out later. Up goes the plate, jump in the jeep.....still
does it, exact same scenerio as I described earlier today.

Upon another inspection the top of the rear trackbar axle mount is
cracked...which should lead to some play in the rear end. Next step
is to try and weld it up to see if that fixes it. (Dan you
listening...)

(I also took a longer, really indepth look at the motor mounts and
associated brackets and they are visually fine, and are not loose.)

Thanks for everyones replies, I'm sure you'll hear if I can't get it
figure out.

Tara is getting mad that her jeep keeps breaking (tranny mount, axle
bracket COMPLETE D35 rear end, locker, etc)...and she doesn't wheel
it even close to as hard as I do....maybe I'm due for a major
breakdown.
