Horsepower...2.5L...I don't think I've ever seen those two used in
the same sentence...:)

I think Chris R. has the most mods on a 2.5L that I know of, he would
be a good reference person.

Anyone running this? I am more concerned about geeting extra power

performance. I want good throttle response and low to mid rpm power.

Kevin,
I think the next line up from 210 is 220...possibly 230. My ZJ
isn't here right now so I can't look at it. Mine is a '96 so may
be different from yours....Mine will run up about halfway between
210 and the next line sometimes. Mostly happens on the freeway at
80mph+ going up hill. Idling around it runs right at 210.

I started a new egroup called LOSLOCOS 4WD the other night.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LOSLOCOS4WD

I will always be on the AZVJC, but the group I started is meant for
those who drink beer, have a thick skin, can take a little **** from
someone in stride without getting butt-hurt, joke about your mom, 4-
wheel on hard trails, have a blatant disregard for evrything related
to and including the Sierra Club and its affiliates, and most
importantly, those who are slightly crazy. This will probably be a
big hit with some of you out there, and my flame-proof suit is ready
for the as of lately *****ing crowd.

Rick,

ORF will do this on all 4 LCA brackets and reinforce the frame brackets for
that much. Stu, myself, and others have had it done. I recommend it. Just be
certain to ask that they remove the arms before welding. I believe Doug B
had a complaint awhile back about this.

Stu has some great pics on his website www.stu-offroad.com

4 Wheelers quoted me about $400 to replace both LCA axle brackets on
my 98TJ with heavy duty brackets w/skids. That's sounds reasonable
since RE wants $300 for their brackets and I would still have to get
them welded. I haven't worked with their fab shop before. Does the
price sound right? I had my gears done by them and the results were
good. Anybody had work done but their fab shop?

Having owned a 4 banger before trading up to the 6 I have to say from
experience that you should first spend your money on gearing and then
consider power mods. I'd recommend 4.88's in the axles (for the street) and
a Teralow 4:1 (for the trail). I did power mods to my little 4 banger while
I had it and none of them provided the kind of increase in power that was
worth the money spent. All they did was make my Jeep louder and suck more
gas.

This happened to my XJ over its 200,000+ miles before I sold it. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor (CPS)several times and the problem kept recurring. I eventually determined that the problem could be resolved by simply disconnecting and then reconnecting the CPS. The CPS connector (2 pins in a 3 pin connector if memory serves) is located on the driver's side of the valve cover just in front of the firewall.

I guarantee this will work everytime! Throw nothing else at this problem!

Apx. 270,000 on vehicle, apx 50,000 on engine, trans, tc,. Ok, here we go, one June morning I go out to start her up, she fires right up as usual then dies, I restart her and go through this 3 times before she stays running, doesn't happen again for at least 3 more weeks, can't find anything wrong. About the first of July I go out and she turns over but will not start ( no fire at plug wires), the next day I go out and she fires right up and is fine for the next week or so and then one morning will not start again. In the meantime I find myself down in Phoenix so I stop in at Lou Grubb and pick up a new ignition module and coil since its never been replaced in the aformentioned 270K , after installing these I have no problem for at least 2 weeks then, yup, she turns over but will not start( yes I tried putting the old ign. mod and coil back in, no change), I'm mad, call tow truck, tow truck arrives, driver says hey this sounds like your ignition relay (under pass. side of hood on fender, five in a row)we pull one out and switch it for another one, she fires right up, unhook tow truck, smile, go to local dealer and purchase all 5 brand new and install. Yup same story, a week or so later turns over will not start, no fire at plug wires, mechanic friend in Phx. says R&R crank sensor. I did, works like a champ. go to Laughlin, get married, have fun, drive home, life is good. Yesterday go outside to fire her up (the Jeep) ,you guessed it, turns over fine, will not start, no fire at plug wires. So far have thrown plugs, Jacobs rotor, cap, and wires, relays, ignition mod and coil, and crank sensor at it and am still lost. All wire connections look good, ground to engine block is fine, fuel pressure and volume is fine, changed filter just for fun. Just in case all this isn't weird enough about the time all this started I lost the ability to keep the pre-sets on the radio, they stay for a day or so and then all revert back to 530, I know its probably unrelated but I'm desparate, I need to be in Texas on the 7th and the dealer can't even get me in up here until the 30th (Show Low), if he works on it Friday and then orders parts with the labor day weekend, well you see my situation. ANY thoughts or ideas will be most welcome. Thanks, Doc.

Can't remember what it cost, but I had O-R Fab truss the stock brackets -
which has made them plenty strong, and was certainly a bit cheaper than
replacing the brackets altogether. Also has the advantage of not having to
grind off the stock brackets - then re weld on new ones and re heat the

Eddie,

The K&N filter with exhaust mods helped the 4 banger the most for highway
power. It was still a dog despite everything I put on it.

Even my 6 banger is a dog on the freeway with 4.56's, 35's and a catback. It
feels as though it is always dragging a parachute behind it.

There are some good writeups about 4 banger mods including the 4.0 throttle
body at www.jeepwire.com if that's the route you choose to go.

Take care,

Scott

Hi Tom,

I just sent Kevin a note about what I did. I reduced the anti-freeze
from 50% to 30%, added 12 oz of water wetter, and power washed the
transmission and engine radiators to clean out any junk in the fins. It
appears to have brought the temp down 10-15 deg F. We have had a couple
of really hot days lately. It's a cheap fix $6-7 (Pep Boys) and worth a
try before putting other components.

I was running closer to 230 (between the tic and the red line. It could
actually be hotter) on freeways and during rush hour traffic. Now it
stays around the 210 mark.

We did some testing. The factory grill pushed more air through the
radiators than not having the grill on. The 1993 grills are extremely
low-flow. Later models have openings on the grills are at least 25%
larger. I am buying one of those billeted aluminum grills since it
appears to have more over space and (hopefully) more directional flow.
They make them with a satin black powder coat finish. No chrome for me!
We are also planning on drilling some holes through the front cross
member to increase air flow to the bottom of the radiators.

Rick,

I bought the brackets from RE and had ORU install them. If I recall it
was a $75 charge per axle, but that was a few years ago. I didn't bother
with skids since the RE parts are much stouter than the OEM laminated
pieces that came on the ZJ.

It would be very expensive. Even used diesel engines aren't cheap. If
your friend finds a source, let me know! Steve is still wavering between
rebuilding the Nissan or putting in a used 4-cyl Cummins.

Dear Subscriber:

STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING TODAY!
ASK YOUR OWN EMAIL NETWORKS TO SEND IN ROADLESS COMMENTS

I know a lot of you have already sent in your roadless comments, but it has
not been enough. We are being outgunned 6 to 1 by our anti-access opponents.
It is critical that Congress and the Bush administration hear from thousands
more of you about how important your national forests are for diverse and
dispersed recreational opportunities.

SEND THIS NOTICE TO YOUR OWN PERSONAL, BUSINESS, OR CLUB EMAIL NETWORK!

We must tell the Forest Service to revise the Clinton-Gore Roadless Rule. It
is VITAL that we generate more comments! Please visit BlueRibbon's Rapid
Response Resource Center icon (http://capwiz.com/share/home/) and click on
the "Send Roadless Comments to Chief Bosworth" link for an instant
"clickable" letter to the Forest Service.

Our goal is 30,000 response letters by September 4th, and you can help!

For more information on the proposal, you can visit the Forest Service
website at http://www.roadless.fs.fed.us/xcomments.shtml
