Started having some temperature issues on the 94 XJ. Found some hood vents at the U-Pull yard. Cut them in this past weekend. Seems to help the temperature issue. Yea, my hood needs paint but ...............!!

I've seen these in person, and they are the best looking vents I've seen yet... I'm considering them for my wrangler... I'm not 100% sure what they came out of but I think Jim said they were from a Le Baron or something like that? I dunno:rolleyes:

I think they are out of a Lebaron. The hood of the vehicle was sitting off by itself in the U-Pull yard.

They look like the Le Baron ones I have. I still need to install them because in summer my jeep will creep past 210 when I am out crawling around with my AC on. I had to turn off my AC for a little while during Squeeze last weekend. I am hoping with the vents installed I can keep her cool while crawling around and still keep my AC on.
How much did your temp drop? Crawling speed or highway speed or both?

You can also get a 12v radiator fan from the junkyard and install it on one of the hood vents...blowing air up&out. Something from a Honda (or similar compact) works well and is very compact. Just wire it to a switch so you can control on/off.

Me too, where can I get some!!! My XJ is starting to show signs of heat stress, i.e., blown head gasket, rear main seal… Or, it is from letting Frenchy drive it:confused:

You already have one! They are the "Exhausters" from the TJ tailgate.
$16.95 from the dealer.Cut 6"x6 1/2" holes and they just pop in and are weatherproof and self sealing

I mounted mine toward the rear of the hood on the XJ. Seems to do real well but will document more this weekend.

The rear of the hood is the most common place to install vents. One reason being you can place them neatly between the hood frames and not have to cut them up, and thereby loosing some stiffness. Another reason is there is no real air movement there (not truely proven, but agreed on by the XJ gods), so this helps it vent. Maybe another reason is that it looks good.
http://www.naxja.org/ has bunches of info on this mod. People use all kinds of vents, from A/C vents found at Lowes, to just about any kind of OE vehicle vents. If your not to concerned about fit and finish, some XJ owners have placed a 1/2"-5/8" lift block on each of the hood hinges to raise the rear enough to vent out.

I dont know but I can tell you how to find out!
First, get it up to temp and a/c on to kick in the electric fan. Open the hood and feel around for the hottest air flow. Most likely just above the fan shroud. That would be the place to start.
Go and get a junker XJ hood. I got one for my TJ from AMC4x4 cheap.Cut holes in the most likely spots and drive around and measure the results. Check the pic. Little strings showed the airflow patterns over the hood at different speeds. See the little thermometer. For the record, The best for the TJ is in the front with the forward edge of the hole 9" back from the leading edge of the hood. The back works too but the front has a 10* advantage.
