Moore had that last weekend. I wouldn't give Power the time of day! If you want real aggravation; go try to make a deal with those clowns. They're real good for not honoring their advertised specials and low balling trade-ins.

I think you'll find most Jeep dealers advertising this for July.

Trade-ins are how these guys make money. IMO, whenever possible try to sell your vehicle on your own. It really is pretty easy to get great pricing from most dealers although it's important not to have a trade-in....most just go about it the wrong way. I have zero interest in what any salesman says about price. Because of this, it really is of no concern to me who has what luck with what person at what dealership. In fact, in this day in age a dealer saleman is completely obsolete and is only another hand in our pocket. THere is no need for them. In the information age they typically know less than the consumer, so why play the game and with them?

Back in '99 I helped a friend close a deal on a 2000 Superduty. It was fully loaded with leather, had a dealer installed electric sliding rear window. Had every single option possible (it even had the optional block heater). It was a diesel long bed dually 4X4. The sticker price on it was $45k. I got the price down to $31k and change from a dealership in town. I told him to go there, ask for this person as the paperwork was ready and all he had to do was sign. He was in and out very quickly and had a great experience. I set up the same deal for another close friend of min on a Duramax back in '02 or '03 I believe. Don't remember the exact price on this one but it too was about $10k below what the cheapest dealer quoted. I get tired of seeing people get screwed out because of a silly unneeded salesman commission. I can see if the salesman provided something, but the salesman rarely delivers anything other than inferior information and BS.

I really need to write a book.

Write a book or hire out your services to your friends here :D . I would be willing to pay $750-1000 to someone if they did the negotiating for me and could save me $10k off MSRP.

Not to step on your brownie, but don't you think it is easier to obtain deals on higher priced vehicles? Little more wiggle room, no?

You are correct John, but you can also look at it as the percentage of the vehicle. There's no excuse for dealers to be making 20-25% on these vehicles. Actually, there are excuses, they usually end up in the form of market adjustments. Adjustments that when you're at the dealer you spend so much time trying to negotiate out of that once exhausted you realize the next day (after you bought your vehicle) that you never haggled anything off of the actual MSRP. 20% = $10k off a 50k vehicle, and $5k off a Jeep....or more!

To come slightly off topic for those RV owners. RV's are the worst at mark up. A local dealer in town wouldn't budge back when I bought my Weekend Warrior. He wanted roughly $35k for it and that's minus the second A/C I wanted. I ended up getting the same rig for just under $23k (with the additional A/C and a upgraded stereo and larger fuel station) without stepping foot in the dealer except for picking it up.

Although my friend didn't end up getting a new rig, we went to Earnhardt RV to look at buying a diesel pusher that was marked as $245k loaded how he wanted. I got that price down on paper to roughly $185k. It's too bad he backed out and ended up getting a cheaper several year old model as it was a great deal. I'll be doing this very same thing for this very same motorhome (except the slide configuration will be different) probably in the next several months as my wife and I are currently looking for one. What's nice about this is I can trade up every couple of years and sell it for the same price I bought it because so many people are getting screwed out of RV. RV's are even easier than cars because they're willing to move them for little profit because they take up so much darn space.... also, you can get good deals on new RV's back east in the middle of winter.

I'm all for making a profit. Unfortunately cars are kinda like gasoline at the pumps. It's what every American relies on to get to work and make a living. Yeh, he can by a cheaper car, but with the average working person working 50+ hours and commuting an hour in the car I think he deserves something reasonably nice. Charging 25% on something that already depreciates faster than just about anything else is insane. I can see markups on luxury items that you don't NEED, but everyone needs a car (at least in the spread out valley). I guess this argument can't really hold much in the topic as Jeeps since they're probably up there with the least practical commuting vehicles on the road...but don't ruin my story. ;) :)

You know, now that I re-read that I'm thinking I watch too much Bill O'reilly, particularly about Americans needing gasoline to get to work and there fore deserve to not get screwed at the pump.

No doubt the percentage of the vehicle works out the way you describe...at the end of the day however, 10k is still more than 5k, and that perception is what I keyed in on.

So tell me, I paid 29k (after tax and license) for my 05' Unlimited Rubi loaded* (*hardtop, no soft top included, i.e. dual tops option)...good deal?

Yup. Sounds like they are making the money on trade-ins which is common. They tried to sell me a used PT Cruiser for the same price that Performance Dodge sold us a comparable new one for. The new one was also two years newer. ....and they wonder why we shop around.
