Elvis
Trail Rating: 3.5
Elvis is located in the Florence Junction area and is accessible from the southern entrance via Price Rd. in north Florence. Named after a fellow Jeeper's dog who died on the trail, Elvis offers a mix of obstacles from mild to somewhat challenging, depending upon your rig's capabilites.
There are three main obstacles, each of which have multiple lines (as opposed to bypasses). The first is a large open fall which has a tough v-notch in the center, a less difficult multiple step to the right and a rocky bypass to the left. Above these are a number of lines through various cracks which can test both driver's and vehicle's capabilities.
The second obstacle has a mild v-notch in the center, a more difficult line to the right and a bypass up and over the hill to the left.
The third obstacle has a thin 'alley' to the left which can be interesting for wide/full-size rigs and a steep hill with a 4-5 dropoff to the right, afterwhich is an easy line to the right and a 'bowl' to the left with two exits, both of which are short but steep climbs.
After clearing each of the major obstacles, the wash continues until it reaches a dirt road. To the left takes you back out to Price Rd. To the right takes you up and over a tall hill with great views and back down into Cottonwood Canyon, exiting near the northern end of Box Canyon, near the 'intersection' and play hills.
Elvis is a fun trail and a nice alternative to Box Canyon when heading into other FJ trails like Axle Alley, Bad Medicine, Martinez Canyon, etc. It can be run with relative ease, or it can be made tougher and even bite you if not careful, depending upon chosen lines.
Bring your camera, and plenty of water, along with a good attitude for a trail you will surely enjoy.
