I need to put off road harnesses in the Willys after I put in a cage. What is a good source for harnesses? I have heard deals can be had on used ones from race cars and trucks? Still get the job done just expire from being OK for professional racing after a time?
I have never had one so information about comfort, quality, and anything else would be helpful.
I already know they are not DOT approved.
Thanks in advance.

im wanting to begin researching this more too. not sure about used, but for new im going to check a few of the vendors/sponsors here about the corbeau 3" competition 5 point harness. i'd probably not use the crotch strap tho... sounds too painfull.

Croutch strap doesn't come into play unless you hit so hard it pushes you out from under the straps and if you do that you'll be glad you had it. Big thing here is to buy 3" straps for comfort, (smaller tend to cut into you off-road).

Sorry, I am unfamiliar with where to get expired harnesses.. however, here is my .02
I bought the pyrotect harnesses from Simon! He has a good deal on them down there! My only complaint is the aircraft style latch. It gets old trying to gather all 4 or 5 points and put them together then latch the lock. My next set with be with a cam lock setup so that I can just clip them in place one at a time!
Not to mention the aircraft latch is REALLY stiff... my GF is pretty small and HAD a hell of a time getting the latch undone... I finally look the little springs out and cut like 2 coils off of it so that it can be a LITTLE easier!
Those are just my opinions!

We stock 2"and 3" Pyrotech belts made by Bell helmets. We stock lap only and 5 point. :)

A real good type of harness is the cam lock. Just click each belt in one at a time. Very safe and easy to use.

Another affordable option is Crow. Got mine direct from Crow, but Lopers does carry some models there.
I went 4pt (no crotch belt), with 3" lap and 2" shoulder belts. I was opposite of one poster above, and found 3" should belts uncomfortable (too wide so they bother/rub my neck). Mine have the shoulder belts sewn to the lap belt so they're always "on" once the lap belt is latched. I just usually have the shoulders very loose, and just snug down tight on roads or a difficult obstacle. No fiddling with latch this way. If I had to deal with the 4(or 5)pc chinese jigsaw puzzle latch every time, I know I'd be lazy enough to skip hooking some of the belts many times.
Good luck! And be sure to check out the proper mounting position for them shoulder straps.

Just got off the phone with Larry at Pyrotech. He suggested NOT using cam lock latches in any off road type rig. He said the lock mechanism is VERY easy to jam up with dust and dirt. He said you will find this out when you are upside down with gas dripping on you. Thats good enough for me.:) Stick with the latch type.

I dunno .... I run a 3" wide set of cam lock Sparco belts.... got them for helping a guy move from Calif to AZ a while back.... really nice pull down belts... I'd trust the cam lock.... Just don't laugh if I'm ever stuck in them !

I ended up going with Schroth 5 Point Harnesses... I believe that they were called the Profi-III 5 Point.

I really like these because they are the cam lock style buckle instead of the standard buckle... Basically, a cam lock is a round buckle in which all 5 points buckle around the lock... and you can buckle them in individually as you need them... For example, most of the time, I run just the lap and anti-sub belts when I am cruising the trail... When I come across an obstacle, I buckle in the shoulder belts, click, click. With a standard buckle, you would need to completely undo the lap belts in order to buckle in the shoulders.
When you are ready to undo the belts, you twist the dial on the front of the buckle and bam, all belts release at the same time...
I have never had any problem with the cam getting jammed up from any kind of gunk.
I was able to get a really good deal on these belts from a company out in Georgia, (http://www.lockracewrks.com). Pretty much all harnessbelts have a FIA date stamp tag on them indicating the date that they must be replaced if you are racing in FIA santioned events. Usually this is 10 years from the date of manufacture... After the date these are still great belts, but cannot be used in FIA competiton. The belts that I bought in 2004 had a date of 2008 on them... Even though they are brand new, they are not worth as much to a racer since is would be better to get the full 10 years out of a new set of belts, therefore, many places offer really good prices on belts that have a shorter FIA life left.

Work fine. Not even close to jamming, (2 years in an open rig) even with Taylor putting her gum, Dr. Pepper and Zours in the mechanism. I was upside down lately and they let my head bang off the roof no problem. Might be the brand, cheap vs good. Mine were pricey but I would not change for the world.

I use the crotch strap to keep the lap belt from pulling up when you use the shoulder straps. The crotch strap does more than keeping you from sliding out of your seat.;)

No more details, PLEASE!
I was always told that if you adjust your crotch strap more than twice your playing with it:D
